Today we continue the adventure's of Hana, Anon, Ran, and more until writefag comes back from railing lines off of the supple asses of thai ladyboys.

This thread is for the spin offs of the spin offs of a fan work, read below to catch up.
Read the OG work here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/43718466/chapters/109935363

Read Hana's story here:

(1/2)

The first thing was the door and how disgustingly made it was. Yukari is smart, no doubt, but this door... It's like a magical layer upon a thousand other layers, hidden until deemed necessary by some mechanism—magic, too.—This shit is a stroke of genius. The purpose is fucked up, but still, a fortress and a half condensed into 6 pounds of wood, probably extending like a cage around the main attraction.

I got in and looked around, weirded out by how similar it was to the shrine, and—ow, there it was, the dreaded incense, enough to turn a longtime friend into a rapist; or maybe just help them get there? The incense saturates the air, hidden and low, almost mystical in its composition, masking slithering snakes made out of aphrodisiacs and vodka.

It was easy to resist with the taste being similar to shit, and as I made my way inside, a voice reverberated. "Good morning, dear; I'll be with you in a moment!" He said, and the smells of cooking food became more prominent, my stomach growling for some adequate fuel. I entered the shrine and went to the kitchen, not really in the mood to make comparisons with the real shrine.

Anon glanced at me entering, smile tense and spine straight as a rod. Was it the gigantic spork? With the Oni population gossiping and boasting about their times and records with him, it probably wasn't the horns. No, this smell in the air...

Smiling devilish, I sat on the kotatsu, loudly dropping the spork; Anon hiding well his deep breaths to recover. "Sup, Anon! Don't think we ever met, but the sis of a girl your wife beat almost killed me once! Scary little shit that Flandre," he laughed—a sad attempt—and finished the tea.

I look around, narrowing my eyes at the sudden scent of Old Magic, focusing them on the fridge. The next moment, it disappeared.

What th—I frown; isn't Okina...

Hm, must tread carefully.

... Nah.

Anon set two cups on the table and filled them with tea. "T-The food is almost ready, dear. I'll let the broth thicken a little more."

"Stuttering, Anon? Keh-heh-heh... What, am I that scary?" I smiled, sharp teeth bare and eyes wide. He, however, giggled, and I could almost read in his eyes: someone else is much scarier.

"No, dear. If that's your way of asking for a compliment: you have gorgeous teeth," It was a rash change from the nervous cat of just now, and I really couldn't pinpoint the origin. He must be used to staring danger in the face and faking compliments and whatnot.

Though, it feels nice to have something you take so good care of praised. Meh, not horny. Pouting, I drank the tea in one swoop and said, "More." He filled my cup again. "So, Yukari, huh? Raped you in front of your daughter, locked you here, and you're now Gensokyo's fuck-toy—must be hard."

Anon drank a bit of his tea, and I perceived the slightest tremble in his hand.

"Rumors are weird, I suppose. So many lies about Yukari..." It was like he had to sweeten his tongue with tea before saying those words. "No, she never did any of that. I'm here willingly."

Hm...

I have a feeling being straightforward won't help; this needs a bit more trickery; "Oh, I see. Damn, your own daughter is spreading rumors? Perhaps I should've looked for better sourcing." Yukari knows this is a lie, and she probably could've whispered to Anon unnoticed if it wasn’t me, Old Magic adept, here.

Anon went pale and broke for a moment, an infinite weight behind his eyes. "H-Hana said those things?!" He couldn't properly fake disbelief, and it was all I needed to know the truth of 'rumors'. I snorted, disgusted. "She... doesn't like what I'm doing because she believes Reimu doesn't deserve to be redeemed. But to lie like this..."

I nodded sharply. "She told me other things, too."

"What?" He rushedly asked—hook, line, and likely half my arm.

"Nah—all lies, aren't they?" Anon bit his lower lip with his slip. "Perhaps I should've asked someone with more insight, like Chen—"

"Don't bring her into this, please..." There it was: desperation barely hidden. 'Into this', so there is something more happening.

I felt a peak of Old Magic around me. My limit, then—at least for now.

Although the purpose of this entire charade is still blurry and probably will still be for some time, I at least got what I was looking for: something is happening here and Yukari has Anon on a tight leash. Oh, Okina will have fun with this...

"Sure, sure, I won't involve the kitty," I shrugged. "Are ya gonna serve the food anytime soon, Anon?"

Looking like taken out of a stupor, he got up, fixed his clothes, and struggled to plastify a calm and unshaken smile; "Sorry about this, dear, thanks for remembering me!" And he ran up to the stove, my mouth watering with the smells permeating the air.

Damn, Reimu really is a dumbass. If I had a man to cook for me, I wouldn't lay an evil finger on him.

... Maybe some teeth.

I gazed at his nape from the kotatsu, stomach rumbling and drooling. Oh, if I had no morals to upkeep...

44847934

Alice was fidgeting as she played with the slightly crumbled cardstock ticket in her hand. The first few times she tried to enter that establishment the pressure of what she was going to do got to her before she could even reach the doors. It was just too much, how could a girl be expected to just sit around in that skimply outfit playing games, snacking, and chatting until their number gets called up?

It was just too much!

Not even taking her Shanghai and Hourai dolls was enough to comfort her, all the hair brushing and cute little photos she could take of them wouldn't be enough to distract herself the kind of place she was in. She even made them little mock dresses like what she wore to match but all that did was make her thoughts loop back to how skimpy her outfit was.

Her number was getting closer to being called, she didn't make an appointment. She never did actually, she liked the time before during the wait as it let her collect herself. It let her decide if this was really the right thing to do...

She got up, walking along the stalls hawking merchandise, food, consumables, and even less wholesome things like an accurate model of the main attractions... well you got the idea... It soothed her nerves somewhat as she got a cold cup of tea and sipped at the refreshing liquid.

Honestly she didn't know why she was here, its not like she liked Anon or anything. Sure she was there when he was asking for advice on what Reimu liked in those early days, sure he always made sure to bring gifts like when he went to commission Hana's baby clothes, sure he always had a smile for her when she used too visited the shrine, sure he may have even hugged her once or twice in thanks for when she agreed to help shelter Hana during those days when even Marisa's was too dangerous, and sure he may have even risked his own safety in order to keep in touch with her during the darker days of his life.

Still that doesn't mean she thought about all those interactions with fondness, just because he gave her the time of day and was one of the few people to visit that didn't want to steal what she owned... If she was here it certainly wouldn't have been partially Marisa's fault for telling her all about the things going on around him, nor the times they hung out, or anything like how gentlemanly he was even when she was drunk around him. It was Marisa's fault as well how she kept inviting her to join them sometimes even though she knew that Alice didn't' like heading out much.

No, there's no way she was attracted to him in any way at all, there's no way she was jealous of Marisa for being able to get close to him. She wasn't disgusted at how Reimu treated him either as she didn't care much for him.

Above all she most certainly wasn't more than a little curious about how he treated the women that came in here with love and... well if the stories that Marisa told her were true she most certainly WASN'T interested at feeling his touch!

She was flurry of thoughts as she left the small market and food court, she passed by the annex and the workers registering extra options for the ladies sessions, and the entrance to the onsen like baths until she got to the waiting room once again. A bit calmer and collected she made to sit down on the comfortable booth, that was when she spotted a flash of blonde and dark brown in on the far side of the room...

Gah, the last woman she wanted to see here! She was just about to back away when Marisa spotted her, drawing the eyes of... Hana?! Marisa waved over and the idiot even had the gall to shout her name across the lobby, drawing the eyes of many other patrons. Alice's face went red and she felt a surge of panic.

She knew her number was up next, but they'd definitely get the wrong idea not only seeing her in this outfit but seeing her go in alone! T-this wouldn't do at all!

Leaving behind Marisa and Hana in the waiting room Alice bolted to the changing room where the ever vigilant Kitsune simply jotted down something on the scroll in front of her as Alice rushed into the changing room quickly muttering, "I-I have to go I uhh... left my shanghai running!". She left there in a hurry just as the Kitsune called out through some kind of magic circle, "Number xxx is being skipped, number xxx and yyy please advance at your leisure, enjoy your stay~"

Alice didn't stick around to see Marisa and Hana get up and walk through the doors together.

(4/5)

Some look at me and think: 'steadfast, severe, Stoic'. Well...

Yesterday, Chen came to me, holding a weirdly wrapped-up present and looking like she had broken a precious vase. Okay until there. Then first blow came when she called me by my name, followed by the present: a sweater rendition of my gown, knitted by hand; white and purple, with the patterns all messed up, and... I loved it immediately.

Then Chen was crying and telling me so many things that left me speechless. Things I didn't even notice were affecting her—the chasm between Yukari and me, the core of her tears.

And I—

I hugged her, and then I cried.

Now I watch as the sky cries, sitting down on the veranda of the fake shrine, the permeable magic ceiling letting the rain in to feed the soil, a musk of dew overpowering the unlit censers' aftersmell. I should have felt cold, but with the perfectly imperfect sweater I was wearing, it simply didn't impact me. The cup of tea in my hands helped, too, as did the two presences two meters away; Anon, wearing a sweater of his own, plain and delightful, and Chen, head on the pillow he called tights, wearing a sweater they had made together—I bet Chen knitted the weird cat silhouette in the center of it. Cute...

I genuinely smiled, and my prolonged gaze attracted Anon's attention. "Hm?"

"Nothing, nothing," I said, one hand going to Chen's hair and gently caressing it. "Was it you?" His wider smile removed the need for explanation, and I huffed. "Of course it was you."

"I just pushed her in the right direction. She got there herself."

My smile became placid, eyes on the rain. "I... didn't know she felt like that."

"We never know until it's spelled out. It's easy to just see what we want to see and ignore..." He paused but nodded to himself. Reassurance? "And ignore the wrong."

He didn't mean to, but I felt it like a personal blow.

This entire situation is a chain of people turning their eyes away from evident crimes: starting with Reimu and her abuse, leading all the way to Yukari's offenses, and now all the patrons that turn their eyes away or choose to indulge in a man's suffering for personal pleasure.

And, despite the change in my stance and my regrets, I'm still part of the problem—

"Hey," a hand reached for mine. I unconsciously squeezed it back, gentle but firm. "Don't look like that—Chen made a great effort to get rid of your sad, and we don't want to trample on that," he said with a slight smile. "You are not them, Ran. I'd never blame you. There's one thing I can say for sure you—and Chen—are: my light in this place!"

My chest grew stuffed full, and it was with satisfaction that the thriving worm, for the first time in months, got struck and withered. I smiled, thumb caressing his hand, my tails moving in their own accord—

Chen squirmed a bit, shriveling to preserve heat. The rain hadn't become stronger, but the cold air could only grow over time. Anon, with a smile, rubbed her arms to produce some heat, but it was for naught, as she kept trembling and now had chattering teeth.

Wait a second...

That small shingle of the closed eyes, that exaggerated posture, and impossible-to-hide cat smugness—is she faking?

Perplexed, I watched Chen faking her sleep for no apparent reason, holding Anon in place and making it impossible for him to get up and get her a blanket.

Then, one of her tails pulled one of mine to her, and it was like a switch.

'Wise', Anon called her. Smiling and deciding to follow Chen's unspoken plan, I considered 'wickedly wise' a better fit.

Not noticing me getting up, Anon was positively puzzled when I moved the tea tray to the side and sat up close by him, the two-meter distance between us shrinking to mere centimeters.

"Ran, what are—"

Quietly, my nine tails moved, engulfing us three and resting all over the place, immediately silencing Anon. Warmth immediately rose and spread throughout our bodies, the cold of the rain barely a hint, the fluffiness of my tails a welcoming mantle. Chen stopped shivering and softly purred, snuggling on his lap as her legs and lower body vanished in my nine tails.

"If you feel uncomfortable, I—" Words escaped me when he held a bundle of golden and white fluff and dug his face there, a smile and a multitude of threads adorning his face after lifting it up.

I felt red.

"Uncomfortable?" He laughed softly, the proximity having completely dispelled the cold, and filled our cups with warm tea, the other hand liquid affection as it brushed Chen's hair. "Nah—not at all."

It went beyond: I'm now crimson. I'm smiling, too.

... My hopes that Teutetsu and Okina can do something about Anon's situation grow every day, but moments like these—when the rain goes on and on, but to us, it feels like the Sun is still shining, and the day is good—fuel my own desire to do something.

I just don't know what to do...

For now, we enjoyed each other's company. It felt good enough.

Aya woke up that morning relieving her stomach of Anon’s cooking. Ugh. Did the fish go bad? No, he wouldn’t serve rotten food and Aya could stomach worse. Right, it was probably that stupid, bitter pill. The heaving tengu took a little bit of solace in knowing the proof was right in front of her that she kept her body safe. Urp.

After freshening up, the reporter collected all of her notes and carefully went through her memories of the night before. Bunbunmaru was a newspaper for readers of all ages, so she deliberated stopped recollecting her experience after the lights went out. Nobody needed to know what she did. Then again, maybe she could leave in just enough of a taste to hook more readers. No, she’ll do both! Keep the article safe and sanitary while offering a way for interested readers to see even more of the HSE! You’ve done it again, Shameimaru!

With her manuscript completed and sent off to the printers, (>>44792685) Aya still had to fill up the rest of her day. Maybe she could visit the bar for a drink? Nah, she still had a bitter taste in her mouth that sake would just make worse. Perhaps she should some pick up some rumors and start another investigation? No, she was too sluggish and felt a little bloated. Hopefully she wasn’t going to become like that week-late shut-in reporter…

Her thoughts turned to Anon, the very subject her story. Maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to visit him again? After all, she did leave in the middle of night while he was asleep. It would have been polite to at least leave a note thanking him for his services. Oh no, what if he thought she left because he upset her? That would be terrible! She had to go back and clear up the misconception now before it hurt him! It definitely wasn’t so she could get pampered by Anon again!

Flying over to the Human Village, Aya tried to shake off any doubts she had about her visit. Would Anon be happy to see her again after what she did to him? Well, some her sources were repeat customers, including the ones that tried to break him free. Maybe Anon was used to clients returning. It would be embarrassing to hear his voice again, though. Hearing him call her “honey”, calling him “darling”, acting like a husband and wife in martial harmony with each other-

NO! This visit was for business! A purely professional check-up on an important source! Closing in on her destination, the tengu prepared herself to resist the pheromones infesting that prison. However, something caught her eye: It was a red-white figure walking around the HSE. That’s odd, since the establishment wouldn’t let anyone take the robes outside and none of the stalls seemed to sell a set. The figure had black hair and detached sleeves that showed off her shoulders and armpits a little bit lewdly. It must be Hana, worried about her father. Maybe Aya should check up on her, too. Anon would be happy to hear about how concerned his daughter is over him.

“Hey, Hana Hakurei! Over here!” The tengu called out to the girl, landing a few feet behind the girl. If she’s lucky, she might be able to get some juicy info for a follow-up article. As she pulled out her notebook, the Hakurei successor turned to regard her. Her hair was a bit frizzled and her skin looked somewhat pale. Not only that, the colors of her robes had started to fade, the reds becoming less red and the whites becoming less vibrant. As her cold, dead eyes came into view, she-

Oh shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit!

That wasn’t Hana!

Before the tengu could speed back to her home and to regret her decision, the Shrine Maiden of Paradise locked eyes with her. If looks could kill, Bunbunmaru would’ve already published Aya’s obituary. Reimu’s eyes were like a river in winter: Completely frozen over, not a crack to be seen. But she knew that underneath the surface was a vortex ready to swallow her whole. Her clenched jaw only further proved that the miko was waiting for an excuse to pulverize the next person she saw. Frozen in place, the tengu waited for Anon’s wife to break the silence.

“What the fuck are you doing here, Aya?”

(Part 13)

I didn't write the Bunbunmaru post but linked it to keep "the HSE continuity". I have an end to this story in mind, there are just a few more beats I want to hit. I also thought this was interesting:

It seems like Yukari has some sort of failsafe keeping her out. Though what exactly can keep a girl out who has the ability to manipulate boundaries like she does is anyone's guess.
Most likely a bit of soft power and some kind spacial fuckery going on to prevent her from being able to properly enter. Yukari is already in contract with Eientei so maybe finding a way to borrow Kaguyas power and distorting the place for her wouldn't be out of the question.

The last time Aya visited the Hakurei Shrine, it was as a messenger between Hana and her mother. Clearly never hearing the phrase “Don’t shoot the messenger,” Aya was unjustly shooed from the shrine (putting it lightly). Delivering the daily Bunbunmaru to the Hakurei Shrine from that point was met with a few blasts of magical energy grazing the humble reporter. At least the Komainu there still enjoyed her work.

Standing here in the middle of the village in front of a brothel served by her husband, it was clear that there was lingering resentment in her words. “If you know what’s good for you, you’ll step away from this building and never come back. I bet some kappa built another invention you can write another stupid article about.” Aya could take an insult to her name or her persistence, but her journalism was another matter.

“I’m afraid I can’t do that, Reimu. You know how demanding the higher-ups are for more, better stories. And while I don’t need to go inside this building to find a story, I think I’ve already found an interesting source to interview.” The tengu knew a danmaku match would end poorly for her, especially in her fatigued state. However, the vengeful shrine maiden wouldn’t just let her go that easily. Her weapon in this fight wouldn’t be her bullets, it would be her words.

“And who the hell would agree to an interview with you?” The reporter can hear the venom in her voice, doubling as an accusation. But Aya knew how to deal with stubborn people like her.

“Of course, that would be you, the Hakurei Shrine Maiden herself! Tell me, as the chosen shrine maiden of the Hakurei God, how do you feel about this competitor to your title? Do you think it’s a direct attack against your image?” While this would be a juicy topic at any other time, the tengu knew that her interviewee would decline to comment and le-

BOOM!

The reporter side-stepped a powerful blast aimed directly for the spot she was standing. It left a crater deep enough to fit at least 3 Ayas inside of it. “Shut the fuck up you bitch!” The shrine maiden narrowed her eyes and raised her gohei, ready to exterminate the youkai in front of her.

“I see you aren’t willing to answer that topic at this time. How about this:” While Aya’s own investigative skills were sharp, the wind was still every tengu’s best source of leads. Shifting gears, Aya was prepared to try another tactic: “Rumor has it that in your recent patrols, you’ve been harsher on the youkai, going beyond simple danmaku. Some are suggesting beating, maiming, even outright murdering the youkai you subjugate! Care to comment?” She finished her question with a smug smirk, knowing exactly how her interviewee would react this time.

“I guess you wanna fucking die too. Here, I’ll show you EXACTLY what I do to shitty youkai that can’t shut their mouths!” The shrine maiden’s ying-yang balls began to levitate as she unleashed an onslaught of bullets and needles. Aya didn’t wait and took to the skies, leading the angry girl to follow her.

It was all she could do to avoid each blast of magic that came her way. Direct, trapping, randomly scattered, there was no art to patterns. Each and every shot had the sole purpose of hitting the tengu hard and fast. For an experienced reporter, navigating Reimu’s assault was definitely doable. However, her erratic behavior made it impossible to line up a single shot back. Thankfully, she didn’t need to.
Flying higher away from the village, Aya let Reimu’s bullets swarm her. Although they clouded her vision, the tengu could tell the shrine maiden was preparing multiple tracking shots to trap and finish her off. It was her chance: She slipped through a gap and dove at break-neck speed towards the shrine maiden, allowing her tracking bullets to follow. Of course Reimu predicted this and simply blew them out of existence, with her overwhelming strength. Aya aimed and shot a volley at the Crimson Slasher.

Not a single one of Aya’s bullets hit the shrine maiden as she effortlessly dodged back from them, letting the gaps widen and pass by her harmlessly.

What she didn’t dodge were her own trap of bullets right behind her. The tengu pulled out her camera and steadied her hands. She only had one shot to get it right.

I think I'm more invested in this fanfic's fanfic than the Hana story. The difference I think is that I can imagine a "happy" ending but I'm anxious to know how things could get there, whereas I have no idea where Hana's story is going to go save avoiding the HSE route and maybe someone winning the Anonbowl.
I am going to shamelessly steal some of the Ran/Chen & Anon interactions for my own project. Chen learning from (you) and knitting a sweater is too cute to pass up.

All of my writefagging the past 2 days was fueled by frustration and sexual frustration (very important distinction) and ended when I was too tired to review properly. I feel you, though I'm more surprised at the pairing in the first place. They've never been put exclusively put together. Though I am glad ZUN did it, Yuuma was too new and didn't have much to go by when making her interactions with other characters, and while Ran was an old character nothing was done with her so she's either used as a plot device or stand in for Yukari. The bridging of new and old is unexpected and is actually a nice addition.
The HSE plot has Ran as a necessity, and you'd be leaving good plot hooks on the table if they didn't use Yuuma as a clean way to bring in more characters and intrigue. Ran needed a lifeline, and ZUN handed it to us on a silver platter. Now if only she can insure Chen's safety.

I could see the isolation and betrayal by everyone he knows and trusts forcing him back into the arms of Reimu. If nothing else his reputation has been throughly destroyed by the HSE to the point its doubtful he could ever find normal work in the village again.

As well the man just wants a normal life again, he desperately wants to return his old life in some form which is why he's clinging onto Ran and Chen as a stand in for normal familial love. The two being the only ones he's in regular contact with who haven't succumbed to some kind of base physical relationship.

If Yukari is able to destroy all the bridges he's built, kill all his hope, corrupt the Moryian shrine, and then plant the idea in his head that Reimu is his only salvation(probably by dramatically losing to her in some show) then and only then would her plan work.

Though given with how often she goes in for his services i wouldn't be surprised if she claims him for herself.

I don't think the HSE alone would force him back to Reimu. Not everyone is a sex-fiend that breaks every bone in Anon's body like Yuuka or Kasen. Yukari is probably reaching Reimu's levels of abuse, but sweeter and kinder girls like Marisa or the Myouren Shrine youkai are probably better than Reimu, who still used to violently rape Anon even without mind-altering incense. Not to mention that Anon is talking to a variety of his former friends outside of Reimu, which should give him some degree of perspective.
If Anon does make it out alive, everyone's still in the Anonbowl by virtue of not being an abusive wife by default. Ran and Chen are just going to be farther along in the running due to the shikigami being close to him during his imprisonment and not having committed prior rapes... yet.
I think the HSE will teach Anon that Reimu's relationship with him was definitely unhealthy and that both sex and marital life can be happier with another woman! Anon's rehabilitation is the best thing to happen to him since he got married to that little girl in the first place!

>Moriya
Last time I saw it written about was Kanako's quest for romance advice in the untainted Hana story. Just spitballing ideas here: Kanako herself definitely has room to be a big player in the story, being a Goddess that is a bit more untouchable by threats and doesn't have the same weak links that Anon and Ran have, but whether or not she falls for Yukari's trap will affect that. There's a lot of lost causes so far, with Yuuma and Okina being the only real ray of hope at the moment.
The problem would be coming up for a reason why Moriya would get involved. Sanae's an easy one to jump in as she knows Anon, but chances are she'll fall into the same pitfall as Marisa, Hana, and Kasen did trying to "save" him and be another willing customer. It's been a *while* since the incident started, and given that we haven't seen them yet, we can assume they know full well what's going on inside from all the Tengu and Kappa on the mountain visiting and working there. They could know that many have tried and failed to do anything and just got corrupted in the process. Suwako and Kanako could be working on an actual plan, and maybe got in contact with or was contacted by Okina looking for extra pieces to add onto the board. Motivations for why they might work together may differ, but the means line up for the most part.
Who knows, maybe we'll have a joke ending with Great Fairy War 2 like >>44829609 said and the skies are acry with バカバカ. What is Yukari going to do against thousands of immortal/respawning fairies besieging and storming her magic sex dungeon? Kill them?

(2/2)

Making my way down to the front exit, whistling an unremarkable piece, I passed by Ran at the reception, a grin painting my face as we made eye contact—the hope there in her eyes was palpable—but I can't do much with Yukari's gaze following me like a horny dog.

So, let's see if she's still as sharp as she was 700 years ago.

Using the hand holding the spork, I start to beat my fingertips on the metal, following the pattern of my whistling. To anyone around me, it meant nothing, and it was so low that only someone with big ears would hear it properly.

Ran, with just a hint of surprise, nodded to me.

I nodded back, feeling obtuse pride. 700 years went by, but she's still a genius.

That same night, I laid on my spork on top of a tree and ate a rice ball with closed eyes, enjoying the briskness of a night after rainfall and the view of the Human Village in the distance...

Then the sound of a gap opening filled the clearing, and I smiled. "You had to use such difficult 4-bit coordinate encoding? I had to do the equation in my mind, do my duties, AND deal with Kappas and Tengu throughout the day—I had to restart it twice! Why an equation, anyway?!" Heh, she's pissed.

"Yet here you are," I ate the rest of the rice ball with ease, squatting and staring at Ran from the top of the branch. Ran huffed and joined her hands together, looking expectant. "Yukari?"

Her eyes narrowed, repressing a sigh. "Busy for about another thirty minutes..." Hm? What's with her reaction—

Oh. It dawned on me.

"Sorry, Ran—we're gonna get him outta there," I reassured her, but she only nodded, still tense. “Something happened: Yukari got there before me and did something to Anon; I don't know what. I can't think of this fuckup being Okina's fault, though. Any idea?"

Ran motioned her head. "Yukari was looking rather paranoid recently; she even threatened Chen," low blow, low blow... "I doubt she'd ever harm her, but... the implications are getting to me."

"Focus there, Ran—it's your man on the fry," I provoked.

"Tetsu, please, he's a married man." Oh, now there's a nickname I haven't heard in a long time. And the provocation...

I shrugged. "If I had to say anything, she's also blackmailing him. Probably not family-related—his only family is the Miko and her daughter, right?—so friends. Not many leads there." Ran frowned hard, the cogs of her mind turning visible, her eyes narrow and spine taut, silence filling the air. I whistled, snapping her out of the clear thought loop and probably of a crashing wave of guilt. "There's probably a threat, so acting up is no good as of now. It's just a setback, though, so don't even think of blaming yourself for this shit." I jumped down from the tree and stood in front of Ran. "I didn't bring it to Okina yet, but I betcha she'll be on board to fuck a bit with Yukari! Keep yourself together, Ranni."

It was funny seeing her try to control her smile of relief. Head over heels, all the way through, sheesh! Better not tell how I entertained the thought of eating Anon during my time there...

... Thrice.

"Thank you, Toutetsu. Truly," hiding a pain only hers to ponder about, her smile grew a bit silly. "Also, please don't use that childish nickname again. Aren't we adult youkai?"

I laughed out loud, stomping the ground. "Sure, Ranni, sure! I forgot you're a refined youkai now; lost your wild side and all that."

"It's not like that—"

Uh, this makes her so mad; "Such a disappointing old lady—well, anyway, I got to relay this back to Okina, and you return before Yukari is done with her fuck session. See ya around, Ranni!" I'm flying before she even has time to process the words, a wide grin on my face, pure excitement for this unfolding situation coursing through my veins. Things have been rather calm these past years, so dismantling a rape brothel to prank Yukari and thus help an old friend seems like the perfect use of my time.

Also, maybe Ran will let me get a bite of Anon by the end of this?

... Or perhaps a spoonful.

I laughed devilishly, soaring through the night with my spork. Oh, shame, now I'm hungry!

"So, she actually raped the Hakurei Miko's husband in front of their daughter?" I nodded. "Kidnapped him to form a brothel that will somehow redeem the Miko?" I nodded again. "And a lot of the women of Gensokyo—humans, youkai, ghosts—are going there thinking he's there to lend payback to the Miko for years of abuse?"

"You wouldn't see sick shit like that in the Animal Realm."

Okina nodded, pondering, "This doesn't feel like it greatly affects the equilibrium of Gensokyo; their lives are too small for that—though if Yukari is enjoying this as much as you say, then probably something will eventually go wrong, and I'll have to intervene. That sounds like a benefitless bother..." The goddess yawned. "Thanks for gathering information, Toutetsu; I guess I'll have a word with Yukari."

I smiled. Congrats, Ranni: you've got a goddess on your side!

Most anons give a general 6ish months of time from when the HSE started operation to now. We can probably assume that they thought it was BS since they knew Anon personally and were trying to get Sanae hitched with him. With Sanae herself likely vouching that the guy entirely disappeared for who knows how long only to resurface in Yukari's brothel.

Doesn't take a detective to realize somethings fucky with that. Still they were unlikely to act right away since they didn't have their facts straight, knock a month or so of speculation and Marisa and Sanae working together to find the truth. While Kanako and Suwako use their connections to find out the dirty details of the operation.

After something fucky had been established, the Moriyan gals would probably put their heads together to think up a solution with Kanako and Sanae being personally motivated like Marisa is. Marisa being the one to scout out the place itself as Suwako could probably see the trap for what it is and forbid the other two from going in.

Suwako's and Kanako's power seems like it would be ineffective against a being like Yukari and wouldn't blow their hand by rashly attacking in the same way Yukari wouldn't do the same. It's likely that they're leveraging their influence in order infiltrate the HSE.

Kanako likely manning that effort while Suwako does her own thing, likely she was the one that got in contact with Okina and is using the connections to the underground in order to have some extra options. She likely knows Satori given Utsuho's position as her pet and is keeping her on the back burner.

>Satori
Letting Satori walk in would be a cosmic level disaster in terms of keeping the HSE afloat. One look at Ran at the reception desk and Satori can turn 360 degrees and walk back out with a level of smug rivaling Doremy, satisfied with another case solved with stellar detective-work. Yukari's best case scenario is getting Moriya hooked on the Anon-Express, keep the underground in the dark, and addict or strongarm other threats.
Something else I wonder about is how Mamizou and Suika approach this as they're both in the village frequently. Suika especially since she's on somewhat good terms with Yukari, would she be in on it, ignore it? Or would she draw the line?

The best part is that this is genuinely Yukari thinking she's helping. In her mind I have no doubt that she thinks she's a great savior for reforming Reimu, chastising anon for divorcing her, and helping Hana in walking down the same path as her mother.

Sadly for everyone involved Yukari is severely autistic and can't admit that she's had a crush on Anon after the first time he served her tea and didn't join his wife in bullying her out of the shrine.

Fortunetly for Yukari Satorin isn't suited for long forays like this and probably hasn't even left her underground since before the start of this.
Mamizou likely tried it out at least once, she's long lived enough to not be overly phased, though with how effective anon is at seducing beast youkai we can't say if she isn't working with Hijiri to claim him for the temple.

Suika is an interesting case, she's sorta okay with Yukari in knowing her from way back. Though I can't say they're friends in any real manner. Given how often Suika is likely to visit the shrine she likely became friends with Anon. I believe one of these stories implied she tried taking him home with her but Yukari's barrier (barely most like) kept her from doing so.

Unfortunately for Yukari, "Never letting anything slip from her grasp" is another hag's job description. With so many things working against her, her paranoia is going to catch up to her and make her slip.
In any case, what exactly is our "best case scenario" for Anon? Not getting irreversibly mind-broken, dying, or any friends and family related to him dying would be for starters. But his relationships with just about everyone else is ruined or stuck in awkward limbo. If he's a free man can Hana and Marisa really face him after all they did to rub salt in the wound? Yukari and Reimu being out of his hair for good is another thing for him to want. Would he want to remarry or start a new family? Any place is better than there or back at the shrine. Moriya might want him, either for Sanae or Kanako claiming him. Byakuren was determined to make him into a paragon saint for the temple, but that might as well be a Myouren exclusive HSE with how they've crossed that line. Closest replacement for his family is Ran and Chen who truly care for him no strings attached, but they're stuck with Yukari unless by some twist of fate they free themselves of being her familiars, or Yukari gives up on Anon and lets them have him.
The worst of it is with Ran and Chen. They don't really have the best outlook no matter how you cut it, so long as they're with Yukari anyway. If things continue they'll be stuck with the stress, regret, and grief for all of it; and if Anon gets free then punishments are in order because of the obvious failure in their jobs and conspiracy.

Thats a good point
Marisa might be shamless enough and we all know Anon could look past Hana's mistake with his near infinite love for his daughter. Though the question is if they can really become family again and stay with Anon knowing their sins. They may just choose to distance themselves from him.

Hijiri would be a better ending all things considered, despite the line he's crossed with them and the sexual undertones of his role there he'd certainly be treated with respect at least. Though it'd lack the wholesomeness he so clearly desires he could easily learn to treasure them.

Moriya is one of the best options at the moment, none of the girls had used him. Kanako and Sanae could take him as their own and even Suwako seems to enjoy him enough. Little needs to be said that he'd be truly free with them.

Ran and Chen are a sad story, there isn't a way for Ran to exit Yukari's service easily, at least not without Yuuma's intervention. Though Yuuma seems to believe Ran could take her down by herself. Both of them like him greatly and the feeling is mutual, its honestly one of the sweetest ends that could happen even if it had the highest potential for tragedy.

Yukari is a hidden end. Its clear Yukari is filling a hole in her heart with Anon's mock affections. She's canologically terrible at making friends and it could be said this is her way of acting on some kind of repressed desire to get the love she's been craving. Though she's done such terrible things to him by this point that in Anon's eyes she's just as much of a monster as Reimu is.

Thing is, tho, she's threatening someone she herself have a personal connection with. If she discovers Ran is backstabbing her she'd have to proceed with her threats and harm Chen, but that'd be losing Ran's loyalty immediately, which to a loner like her is a no-no. It could all be a bluff and Yukari might never do that, but it really doesn't matter if it's a bluff or not. Yukari's skill of coercion is such that the mere threat and the way she conveys it is enough to scare you shitless. The possibility of "someone" close to you suddenly dying and the cause being impossible to trace back to Yukari is too much of a risk. Same with Chen, giving her the KKHTA treatment is not an idea you can brush off easily when it comes from someone who has no problems getting her hands dirty.
>>44852256
I think it's a short term solution at best until she can shut Okina down and kick any hope from that angle out from under her, otherwise what else can you do to keep her on a short leash? The poison trick can't be used on Chen either if she's the "friend" Yukari threatened Anon with, Ran has too much insider knowledge and a sharp mind, she'd know. Also remember her first proper encounter with Anon; If Chen was dead, Ran would not have hesitated to go postal, her own well being doesn't matter to her at that point. Even the shrine maiden’s own bullet couldn’t put her out of commission. She’s always been able to stand up for another round and it seems like now was no exception. If Aya flew away, Reimu would just catch up to her. She briefly considered hiding in one of the village’s buildings, but a youkai running from the protector of humanity probably wouldn’t gain her much sympathy. There was only one place she knew Reimu couldn’t follow her.

Diving past the stunned abuser, Aya flew into the Hakurei Shrine Experience for the second time in her life. The kitsune attendant, dutiful and disapproving as ever, simply gave the tengu a cold glance. How far into this place did she need to go? Could she stick around the stalls or hide in the costume closet? Would she have to go all the way to Anon’s room? Explaining why she was out-of-breath to her assailant’s husband would be humiliating, but it beat dying.

A fierce knock came on the door. Well, less of knock and more of a brutal pounding. The reporter was standing at the reception desk in awe as the wooden door stood completely immobile while the disgruntled wife on the other side beat it like she was married to it. Aya couldn’t understand what kind of magic could possibly hold back Reimu, but it was better than nothing. Insults like “GET OUT HERE YOU BITCH!” and “I’LL SEND YOU TO STRAIGHT TO HELL YOU SLUTTY CROW!” joined the banging to make the perfect song for Reimu’s anger. She was at it for a minute straight until another voice suddenly joined in and silenced her.

“Oh? And who do you think you’re going to meet saying such cruel things?” The second voice sent chills up Aya’s spine. That was definitely Yukari. Sage of Gensokyo, Reimu’s benefactor, owner of the HSE and the second woman to own Anon. Looking over to Ran, she simply had a tired expression on her face as if this was simply another part of the work day. Reimu was still shouting at Yukari, but they were moving away from the door and becoming indistinct. After a few minutes, everything fell silent. The shikigami simply returned to the records on her desk. Daring to see if the coast was finally clear, Aya started towards the door. Before she made step one, reality ripped apart in front of her.

It was a dark rift, inhabited by disembodied eyes and fringed by flowing ribbons. The so-called “gap” the dangerous youkai bent the rules of nature with. Stepping through without a care for the abominable space she emerged from, Yukari towered over the tengu. Her face held a wide, toothy grin that revealed just how much power and control she had over the situation. Nothing was in her way, not even the shrine maiden, and she enjoyed it. “That silly little girl has run home. She won’t be causing any more trouble for you today. Honestly, starting a fight in front of my own establishment. Such a thing would cause business to sour!” Even though her words were innocent, Aya could feel the cruelty behind them.

“Thank you, Lady Yakumo, for protecting me…” Her own feelings regarding the situation meant nothing right now. Yukari had just driven off an incredibly pissed-off Reimu and could do any number of things to the reporter if she slipped up once. The oppressive aura radiating from her was nothing she had ever felt from the youkai before. It was a feeling comparable to every wolf tengu in Gensokyo surrounding a hare, waiting to pounce.

“It was no trouble. After all, it pays to help out a benefactor of the business who writes such glowing reviews. When you’re ready to visit again, Ran here will let you in for free. I know you’ll enjoy it since ‘I can say that Anon does not disappoint’ anyone, especially a reporter like you.”

She quoted tomorrow’s Bunbunmaru directly. Aya wasn’t even sure if it finished printing yet. Nevertheless, she heard the message loud and clear: Keep writing positive articles or you won’t be writing anything at all. She had to wonder if the daitengu were connected to the HSE or if Yukari interrogated the printers themselves. “Th-Thank you very much. I think I’ll go home, I’ve… got a bad cramp now!” Any excuse would do to get away from Yukari as soon as possible.

“Of course you do. Run along now, and make sure to tell all your friends about the excellent services we provide.” The matter dealt with and her message delivered, Yukari stepped back into her horrifying void and simply disappeared. Ran’s expression barely hid her contempt, but Aya couldn’t tell who it was directed at. Taking this as her cue, the tengu flew back home, thoughts of Anon in the back of her mind. She would have to wait another day to apologize to him. She felt sick not being strong enough to defend him from Reimu or smart enough to rescue him from Yukari. The gap youkai would probably push Aya deep into her pocket until there was no way out.

At least she didn’t lie. Her lower belly really did start cramping.

Yukari sighed out the fatigue as she watched the running of her little project though a gap from the comfort of her bedroom, some cheap bag of chips on her side, perfectly at hand's length, sitting next to a bottle of chilled way-too-sweet western fizzy soda. She herself was dressed in a rather unflattering gray sweatsuit wrinkled, stained, and partially pulled up exposing her belly which she idly scratched.

She yawned out, it'd been six months or so since she got that building made, organized the nature of the place, worked overtime on staffing it via favors and bribes, and sent some not so subtle invitations to the more influential. She couldn't allow anyone to interfere at such a critical juncture after all, it was already close to winter after all, the sacred time when she went for R&R.

Her futon was calling her name already, her yearly reservations to a string of luxurious hotels in tropical areas were set, there were no real threat of minor inconveniences like wars or plagues on the horizon for this year to sabotage her vacations. Still, she had to accomplish her goals here, it irked her that it was taking longer than she thought it would and her calculations failed to account for certain factors.

As she watched one of the Kappa drop a glob of dough destined for the deep fryer she'd already calculated the monetary value lost in the time and material wasted, cleaning products used, price of the electricity wasted, and the cost it'd take to replace the product she'd let burn cleaning that mess and missing the window to take out the other frying items. Honestly, good help was so hard to come by these days~

She took a sip of the sweet soda, relishing the popping against her tongue against the taste of the potato chip that inter-played nicely together in a way that even those outrageously skilled chefs she frequented on her vacations couldn't quite match. She stretched as she sat up, letting the crumbs fall where they may, locations that she knew off-hand already before they settled, and stood up. A gap formed underneath the soda transporting to an icebox approximately 180 miles away in a little house she owned that she liked visiting when she was feeling quaint.

She walked to the restroom, washing off her hands the manual way to clean the grease form her hands, and washing her face the same way. She felt prideful at this little action, it was so like her to take the time to understand those lesser than her after all~ She just didn't understand all the backlash she faced at times, then again it just like those short lived and mentally inferior beings and she just couldn't hate them for it.

Dressed in her favorite purple dress, her daily wear, laundered to perfection by Ran... She sighed again as she changed, this little project of hers was taking its toll on Ran rather heavily, her pet shikigami was acting out unlike she's ever done before in her service to her. This project was taking its toll on everyone it seemed, she NEEDED it to go off without a hitch as there was no other alternative and she needed to trust Ran without issue.

The mental stresses were building up again as she manipulated the boundary between wrinkled and smooth clothes as she examined herself in the mirror, finding no faults. She just couldn't trust anyone to do the job she needed but her, not when things were so delicate, why couldn't Ran see past her own emotions and misplaced 'ethics'? She was a youkai for crying out loud! Not some motherly fox who let her emotions cloud her judgement! She swears she should never have let her adopt that little kitten...

Yukari grimaced as she thought back to everything, she tried her hardest to warn that buffoon of an outsider about Reimu, even if she DID bring him over form the outside because she thought he was suited to the task it wasn't like she was a slave driver or anything. All she did was make sure that he made it to the shrine that spring day, she couldn't predict the heart entirely nor was it her concern.

It was the same with that daughter of his, sure she may have spurred her on to committing what those busybody Yama call a 'sin' but it was her own choice! Sure she may or may not have burned every bridge the poor fool had, but it was for his own good.

That was something nobody understood, everything was for their own good! The threats and blackmail to Anon, Ran, Aya, and the rest were all for their own good as well! She put her favorite poofy hat and gathered her parasol after slipping on her shoes. Didn't they understand that all this was to fix Reimu, make Anon rekindle his love, get Hana to become the miko she needed for the future, and ensure that the shrine itself prospers for generations to come?

It was obvious you know, she all but explained it to everyone she came across... Once again she sighed, this time to focus herself as she put her game-face on. As the gap before her opened she let one last whimsical thought fly, "Noblesse oblige was truly her calling card"

He's have to abandon his daughter for that. He's also been gone for almost two decades from the Outside World by now. If he did return to his old life everyone would have given him up for dead years ago. Returning to a regular life on the outside would be difficult.

(unrelated snippet, 1/1)

It's Sunday, my day off, and I'm spending it well.

Sitting on the veranda, I smiled at the faint, zesty breeze, the cold of winter gone. Many sweaters, gloves, socks, and scarves were knitted to repel it—even covers for Ran's many tails—but I am glad Spring has come, and so is Chen, a bright smile on her face as she forages the yard of the fake shrine for yams. Promptly, I make a mental note to put 'remedies for potential parasites and bacterium' on my list; always better to be safe than sorry.

Ran by my side had a laser focus on the notebook in her hands, fox ears free of the usual hat and gown replaced by comfortable clothing to fit the weather, more akin to Chen's own dress. She fixed her reading glasses and smiled, giving me a glance. "Need something, Anon?"

"How's it going... that?" I peeked at the mathematical mumbo-jumbo spanning multiple pages.

Her face developed into a smug. "'That', is going very well. Though," she massaged her neck with a frown. Noticing a catalyst for my talents, I got up and behind her—always careful to not step on the tails—and started a light neck massage. Nothing fancy, but if her satisfied smile was something to go by, it was highly prized. What more can a man wish for than to be truly appreciated?

"HEY! LOOK, LOOK!" Chen's voice echoed as she stood up, her tails swinging back and forth, a big tuber in her hands covered in dirt and tiny ground inhabitants. On her face, a radiant smile. "I found one!"

Ran calmly applauded. "Good job, Chen!"

Me, however, "The best forager in the land! I'll cook that for us! So proud of you, Chen!" I showered her with compliments, her cheeks and chest stuffed and red, the other hand scratching her nape. Ran gave me the side-eye, "What? Positive reinforcement goes a long way."

She huffed wordlessly and gestured with her head. I giggled; what a softie.

I was about to restart the massage, Chen running up to us and—

Then the ceiling exploded. One second peace, the next the entire building trembled, Chen and I stumbling over as Ran got up with her eyes wide. Debris fell from the ceiling covered by a cloud of smoke, and, looking up, I had full vision of this—wait, why am I running towards it? I should be running inside the shrine like Reimu always told me to do when an attack was going—

Oh.

I was running towards Chen on the ground. Chen's stronger than me, much stronger, and can fight and protect herself...

Yet I unconsciously ran up to her with my heart pounding in my ears, caught her in my arms, and held her tight as if to preserve my own life, the debris flying over us with promises of dea—

Beams of light turned them into dust. Balls of Danmaku circled Ran, a spell card burning in between her fingers.

We exchanged one glance, and it felt like an entire conversation. I ran back to the veranda, hiding behind her protective nine tails and assessing Chen: dirty and disheveled, but generally okay. Her eyes were broad, though.

"Are you okay, Chen?" I asked. She barely managed to nod.

Feeling relief and breathing in and out hard, ready to run at any moment, I looked beyond the mighty shield that was Ran's back to the hole in the ceiling, expecting to see a menacing foe or monster—to break Yukari's barrier with such violence and—

"Gee, why such a bothersome barrier?!" The voice had the same pitch as that of a fairy. Shrill and sweet. What in the world?

Then, out of the cloud of smoke and dressed in one of the most ornate dresses I've ever seen, came a harmless-looking fairy, looking around as if searching for something. Her blue eyes landed on us, Ran's hold on the spell card wavering as surprise painted her complexion. "OH! Found you three!"

"Ugh, it's Lily." Ran let out a sigh as the spell card faded, her sleeves joining together. The fairy flew up to us and, with a hand inside a basket filled with colorful—

She stopped and...

Threw confetti all over the three of us, "Haru desu-yo!"

"Thanks for announcing that, Lily," Ran said with a tired note. The fairy, Lily, giggled and waved again.

"My pleasure! Next spring, though, be in a place of easier access, please!"

"You could've used the front door..." But the fairy was already on her way out through the hole in the ceiling, singing to herself and deaf to the kitsune's words. As we three watched that, Chen, always the curious soul, picked up one of the confetti on her hair...

... And tried to put it in her mouth, "No! Chen, no, no!" I was quick in action.

Ran sighed.

A gap opened by the door, and Yukari left it with her eyes wide and a spell card in hand, death imprinted on her face. She looked around the destroyed front yard, then at Ran, who had a tired look, and then at me chasing Chen to stop her from eating the confetti...

Then she looked at the hole in the ceiling. She approached with a look demanding answers; "Lily White." That was all the fox said.

Yukari sighed, "... I'll get it fixed soon." She left without another word.

Wheels were set in motion, palms greased, furies abated, and cold drizzle falling. Yukari sighed deeply inside the comfort of one of her gaps. Balance was such a tricky thing to achieve after all and while she could outsource some of her duties nobody knew how the lion's share of everything really fell to her shoulders! Honestly it was simply reprehensible how the Daitengu and Temna looked at her, their sage and guide in this new era, with open derision in eyes as she taunted them for their passionate displays in her little diorama before tossing them temptation in the form of a rare golden ticket.

It was just pathetic how the buddhists mocked her behind what they thought were closed doors as she ensured that the weaker amongst their rank continued to visit Anon in secret. She was so kind as to even ensure group tickets wound up in their possession again for such good repeat business and made their way to that contemptible head monk. Don't get her started on the taoists.

She even made sure to proliferate rumors amongst the oni though that little gremlin Suika, leading her like a baby bird with free booze and good times with an old friend. Always an annoyance that one, even tried busting Anon out to take him home. Something that at this juncture she just couldn't allow, for multiple reasons, also she didn't need to start an incident now that his services were as highly sought after as immortality was to the kings of old and new.

Yukari didn't even want to start contemplating those downright contemptible earth spiders, always lustful lesser tengu and kappa, and especially not that infuriating tanuki that thinks she's so special just because she can slip under her barrier. It was scant consolation that she'd already gotten Marisa, Alice, and Hana working within the confines of her system. If only it were so easy to get the others in the palm of her hand...

She sighed at the sheer amount of problem children in her little play, certainly if they put their mind to it they could alter her plan, maybe even ruin it all together. However, all things being equal, their powers kept each other at bay well enough and given by how poor they were at working together even when their interests aligned it was like to stay that way. This was a good thing, it was balance, it was as it should be and how barriers were maintained.

With a bit of free time she exited her gap on the mountain side, a pleasant view stretched out before her eyes with the entirety of her little slice of paradise displayed before her under slightly overcast skies. Her eyes from here could easily make out the ropeway threading up the mountain from the village outskirts like a nerve and she felt the brewing smile on her face fall like the light rain on the horizon.

The Moriyans... ever since they came here they've been a thorn in her side... Always causing incidents with that viperfaced women's half-baked schemes! Really, whats the point of coming to Gensokyo, a wonderfully time locked capsule of humanity too foolish to overcome their fears of the dark and want to go out of their way to change it? It was always a handful making sure things failed just enough to not change things in a negative way, though thankfully the Kappa were good enough at that alone.

While she could deal with that there was the other one there, that little native god that pretended to be so carefree and whimsical, it was the reason she hasn't already taken them down and drowned them in temptation. That little conniving thing was quite the nuisance but at least was content in minding her own business and enjoying the day to day.

Still it was quite the burden in her plans knowing that the little odds and ends she could pull with her own powers would be sniffed out quickly by that curse masquerading as a goddess. If she wasn't careful she mused that she could find herself burned by a curse, something that she didn't need at this time even if she could dissipate it. The residue of such a potent shikigami's curse was sticky and tended to cling.

Their attachment to that vow breaker was amusing, and she had no doubt they had their own plans in motion to conflict with hers. Still, no matter what she would have to weather them with her natural grace and charity that kept her going. Maybe she'd try squeezing the green one for information, kindly of course. Perhaps a bit of the tastes of the outside world she missed with good company as she listens into the conversation with her little white and black conspirator? Oh Yukari you're a genius! the carrot is just as good as the stick sometimes~

A gap opened before her again and she stepped through before the edge of the rainstorm could reach her, 4 minutes and 53 seconds to be exact. Business would be slow at the moment and according to Ran's ledgers there's no appointments right now for the next few hours. She suppressed a grin as she exited into the dressing room, it was the perfect time to enjoy the fruits of her labor.

(5/5)

My heart pounds and my hands sweat. It's me, Chen—hi...—and ahead of me is the door to Yukari's office. She's in there, writing on papers and sometimes drinking from a bottle on her right; I can hear it. Yet, my focus is on my heart trying to escape my chest. It was hard to talk to Ran, but I managed it... But talking to Yukari feels totally different, and I'm so—

Gah! I slapped my cheeks to dispel the creeping thoughts of fear. I promised myself I'd do something! Yukari is doing the things that make Ran and Mr. Anon sad; I need to talk to her about them!

Yeah, Yukari is nice! She'll hear me!

Feeling just composed enough, I reached for the handle and opened the door. "Excuse me, Ms. Yukari..." The inside of her office is weird; the design clashes with the rest of our home, and it can feel oppressive. She was sitting behind the table, a multitude of papers surrounding her—also, these peculiar smells... It reminded me of the meds I'd carry to Mr. Anon's room, albeit somewhat different. Stronger?

"Chen-chan, good evening." Yukari stopped writing and scratched her eyes. They seemed tense. "What is it?"

"I, uh..." I walked to her table. There was no chair, so I stood in front of it—even though she was sitting, I felt like she loomed over me. "I wanted to talk to you, Yukari."

"My, what a strange development—until recently it was 'Master's Master'."

"Mr. Anon said Ran would like to be called by the name, and it was true! She was happy! I figured it'd be the same for you." Yukari simply smiled, but it was distant.

"You and Anon have become good friends, I see," I nodded, and, before I could speak, she went first. "You have come here to talk about him, right?" She got up and walked around the table, picking up my hand and guiding me around. I let her do it, seeing no motive to struggle, and we soon were on the outside, sitting on the veranda. The moon shone upon us, a white dot floating on the cold ocean of darkness. I wish I had brought my sweater and scarf... "So?"

"Why do you make Mr. Anon sad?"

Her gentle smile died down, and her eyes faked warmth, piled curiosity not hidden "There's a motive for you to think I hurt him, Chen-chan?" In her eyes, suspicion.

"Well, before I started visiting, he was always crying and looking sad. He can't leave that place, too—why?"

"Oh, dear Chen-chan—so innocent," she brushed my hair. "Mr. Anon never told you why he's there, I suppose?" Before I could process an answer, she continued, "He broke a very important promise to me: his wife, Reimu—a person I care for a lot—is not well in the head, and Mr. Anon promised me he'd take care of her years ago. He married her, knowing about her problems, and yet he ran away from her after some time," wait a second— "That's not good, right? When people are not good, they're punished. That's why I keep Mr. Anon there—to keep him safe from Reimu's wrath but also to reform him. He'll eventually remember his love for Reimu and return to her."

It was just too much information all at once, and I barely had time to formulate anything. I just kept listening, wide-eyed.

Why did Mr. Anon never tell me anything about that? I remembered what he said about trusting things to people you care about, and I felt angry, hurt, and... sad, too, my tails and ears falling.

I could hear rustling by my side and Yukari's hand reaching to give me a hug—

Wait...

Chen is a smart girl; she notices things.

"Mr. Anon said that, sometimes, people don't talk about their problems…" Yukari's hand stopped before it reached me. I looked her in the eyes. "Because they love too much and don't want to worry others—those things he didn't tell me... How'd they worry me?" I asked, frowning. It doesn't make any sense. I'd understand if he had told me he was there because of a bad choice, and—

I recalled, for some reason, what he said after all that: 'Thank you', for no motive—maybe the motive was inside...

... But...

This feels like a blurred puzzle, the pieces are many, and it's hard to match them; if it's to keep Mr. Anon safe, then why all the meds? Is he sick like Reimu too? The Miko outfits? The weird women that come to visit? What does being 'on the clock' even mean?

Perplexed, I looked at Yukari but was met with an oddly tense stare that froze me. It lasted a moment in the real world, but I felt like it was burned for eternity in my mind. "I can't answer that, Chen-chan—I care a lot about Mr. Anon too, but his mind is still a box of surprises to me," she moved, standing up. "Don't talk about this conversation with him, okay? It'll make him very sad to know it was I that revealed his secret and not him to you—you're precious to him, and I'm sure he'll talk about it with you soon."

And then she turned, and I didn't even think and—

I held her hand on mine, firmly.

Yukari gave me a side glance. I felt like crying for some reason. Then she kneeled, planted a soft kiss on my forehead, smiled, and got back inside. I didn't see her eyes.

Aya’s head was spinning in circles as she woke up. Once more, she said goodbye to last night’s dinner, a bit of pickled vegetables served with rice. A sudden craving for preserved cucumbers overcame her, and the kappa were always munching on them. She was satisfied at the time, but vowed never to eat a kappa’s cooking ever again.

Freshening up and clearing her head, she realized that whatever sickness she had wasn’t going away. Something from the HSE got into her body, and going through the gamut from poisonous insects on the shrine grounds, curses laid by previous lovers, and mysterious venereal diseases from the Outside that would devastate the female population of Gensokyo. No matter what it was, Aya had to go to Eientei for a check up.

A knock came at the Aya’s door. Behind it was a package and a crow quickly flying away. Tearing it open revealed a heavy pouch and a letter from the daitengu themselves! It commended her for “writing an outstanding article for such an important part of Gensokyo’s culture” (not neglecting to mention how rare it is for a crow tengu to write a quality article) and rewarded Aya with both vacation time and a hefty commission. While the tengu would usually kill for this kind of treatment from the higher-ups, she knew who this “reward” really came from. Well, it wouldn’t help anyone to just waste this gift. Aya took the jingling pouch and set off for the Bamboo Forest of the Lost.

Navigating the constantly-shifting forest was nearly impossible for most humans. However, the tengu had experience from frequent interviews at the mansion hidden deep within. The wind guided her as she dodged stalk after stalk, challenging the greenery to stop her. It was only a tiny victory for someone like her to land at Eientei unscathed, but Aya’s chest swelled with pride nonetheless.

It was a long wait for Aya to be seen. There were a lot of women, human and youkai, waiting in rather modest clothes. Sweaters, sundresses, sweatpants, they all dressed and acted like they had something to hide. Some of them Aya actually recognized from her interviews as clients of the HSE a few months before she did her own investigation. That settled it: The HSE was host to some sickness plaguing the clientele. Could it be the beginning of another incident? The Gatekeeper of Gensokyo was planning something big, it was just a matter of figuring it out before it had potentially disastrous effects on Gensokyo. That must be why she has Anon trapped: It’ll distract Reimu from putting a stop her plans!

While Aya was writing in her notebook, putting together the pieces of Yukari’s wicked plot, the waiting room slowly thinned out thanks to the inaba attendant. A few inaba themselves came in after Aya, although they looked somewhat bloated. Could the disease have different effects on different youkai species? The plot was only thickening. Eventually, after both feet had fallen asleep from boredom, Aya was led to an examination room. After another agonizingly long wait, she was visited by the Brain of the Moon herself.

There was a slight shock on her face when she saw Aya, but it quickly passed. Eirin regarded Aya as just another patient and asked her to describe her symptoms. She was completely unfazed. After a series of esoteric tests including a urine test, jumping jacks, a treadmill run, pressing her stomach, grabbing her breasts, flying in a wind tunnel and plucking some of feathers “for analysis,” Eirin sat Aya down for her final evaluation. She brought pill bottles with her. “Now, before I give you your results, I need to ask you a couple questions: Have you been sexually active in the past week?”

She was embarrassed to admit it, but she needed to find out the truth. “Y-Yes, two days ago.”

“I see.” The doctor simply checked a box. “Did you use any form of contraceptive?”

“Yes. An-uhm, he, the man, took pills to reduce his sperm count.”

“Would those pills happen to look like this?” As if expecting it, Eirin showed Aya a bottle that looked exactly like the ones in Anon’s cupboard.

“Yes, exactly like that. Wait… those work, right?” Aya started sweating bullets.

“Of course they do, I made them. However, another pill cancels out the effects.” On cue, Eirin pulled out the bottle of fertility enhancers.

“Wait, but he didn’t take any of those! I know, he said the tea was sweet and those pills taste extremely bitter! I swallowed one myself!”

“You must be mistaken. Both of these are completely tasteless and have no effect on female gametes.”

But if they were tasteless, then Aya’s tea wasn’t bitter because of the pill, and Anon’s tea was sweet… But Aya didn’t make sweet tea. No, she put sugar with the pill…

Oh.

“Well, let me be the first to say congratulations, Miss Shameimaru. You’re eggnant.”

“Wha- What did you say?” She managed to squeak it out.

“Aya. You’re pregnant.”

She caught her breath as her hand glided towards her belly. There was something inside there. Someone. A little tengu that she made with Anon…

“Well Aya, I’m sure you have many questions. There’s still time left for over for consultation.” The doctor had gone through this process multiple times today alone, so she was ready to display the proper bedside manner for an expecting mother.

“W-Well I guess my first question is, what’s going to happen to me?” The little tengu was nervous about how the new life growing inside of her would change her world.

“Are you stupid? Don’t they teach you tengus anything about sex?” Her professional delivery only made the words sharper.

“I don’t mean that, jeez! I wanna know when I’ll finally, you know, start showing and deliver.” She couldn’t expect anything less from the Lunarian pharmacist, but it still stung.

“You see, karasu tengu gestation truly is a marvel of nature: Unlike the carrion crow or jungle crow…”

“Miss Eirin, please. Tell me when I’ll lay my egg.” Aya was certain she’d be lost far before her explanation was done.

“Egg? I think you mean clutch.”

“Clutch? Like, more than one egg, clutch?”

“Very good, Aya. Clutch DOES mean more than one. In your case, four, to be exact.”

Four eggs. Aya made Anon fertilize four eggs inside of her because she mixed up tea. There was nowhere to hide her face inside of the room, so she simply covered it with her hands, hoping nobody would ever see her again.

“I’ll move on. It’s difficult to say when you’ll start to begin to show visible signs of pregnancy due to the size of your clutch. You’ll likely lay your eggs within a span of two months. I would estimate the protrusion from your uterus to become visible within the next two weeks.”

Aya forgot her shame and stood up so the doctor could hear her properly. “Two WEEKS?! Isn’t human pregnancy normally-”

“Don’t question it. This is how it works.” The glare Eirin gave Aya was cold enough to freeze blood.

“So, if I’ll lay my eggs in two months, how long will it take for them to hatch?” She knew enough about how birds, especially crows nested to compare her own pregnancy and incubation to theirs. It should be pretty similar, being a karasu tengu and all.

“Seven months”

Bravery once again flowed through the tengu’s veins. “THAT’S RIDICULOUS! There’s no bird in the world where the fertilization time and incubation period-”

“Who’d the doctor here? If you understood the wonderful efficiency of tengu gestation, you’d understand perfectly how this all works. It seems like this is all the time I have to give you today, so we’ll have to end this meeting here.” Eirin presented the third and fourth bottles she had brought to the room. “These are natal supplements. Take them each day to ensure the healthy growth of your eggs. They’re guaranteed to protect them from the negative effects of alcohol, aerosol pollutants, anti-spiral energy and radioactive particles, to name a few.”

“Is all of that really necessary?” The medicine only seemed sketchier and sketchier.

“Would you take that risk?” There was no arguing with the doctor’s logic, so Aya carefully took the bottles, scrutinizing the strange pills inside.

“Finally, here’s a pamphlet that should answer the rest of your questions.” She handed Aya the small booklet with a colorful cover. It was titled: Karasu Tengu Pregnancy – An Eggcellent Adventure. A cute picture of two tengu cuddling in a nest with five eggs adorned it. “Now, I believe that should be everything.” The doctor turned to leave the room before Aya stopped her.

“Wait, there’s one last thing. I need a drug from you. I need fourteen doses, and I have the money…”

They discussed behind closed doors.

“… So you’re here because of *that* building.” Eirin knew somebody had to have dosed the Shrine Husband to cause this mess. The fact that Aya did it recently meant that somebody else did it before her, and that another wave would be coming in the next few months. That wasn’t what the tengu wanted from her, though. This could turn certain relationships sour. “I can certainly do it. I just need you to tell me why you need it. This will complicate things far more than they should be.”

“I need to know the truth about it. About him. This is the only way I can do it.” The pharmacist considered her words for a moment. Aya was nervous but determined. She'd convince Reisen or find some source of magic if she had to.

“Very well. I need to test this anyways. If anyone asks, you did not get this from Eientei and you did not get this from me. I’ll have it prepared tomorrow in the early hours of dawn.”

“Thank you Eirin, I-” the grateful tengu was cut off.

“Reisen. Thank you Reisen, peddling in the Human Village behind Eirin’s back.”

(1/-)

I know what I did; I spiked his tea with a fertility pill and then drained his dick like it was to keep myself alive, but the thing about consequences is that they only hit now, almost two months later, when introspection whispers that was a TERRIBLE idea. I look at myself in the mirror with all my glorious 4'9 feet—sheesh, and I'm almost forty. Maybe it's karma for all the stealing?—And man, I really gotta change this shampoo; it's destroying my hair—and wow, I need to sh—

I sigh. Yep, no matter how much I try to distract myself, it's there. I look at it sideways, and it's even clearer—though still quite small—and... I smile fondly, caressing the surface of my belly with quiet pride, my frown soon creasing. I shouldn't be feeling happy about this, dammit; it was a hastily made choice with so much responsibility behind it...

Yet, I cannot stop feeling so happy, and my heart is so full and...

Dammit.

The chest tenderness was brushed aside as post-sex sensitivity; the vomiting? 10 days old soup, bad mushroom choices, and so on... But this baby bump? Yup, all the signs were there. Marisa Kirisame is pregnant, and she really doesn't know what to do.

I sigh, tense and feeling at the edge of a breakdown, and get myself dressed for the day, my mind an infinite loop and my movements automatic.

I was about to hop on my broom when a sudden question popped into my mind: is this safe for the babies...? Stop that, you idiot! You don't even know; it may be only one—and it may not even be a pregnancy at all—or maybe the loneliness is making me insane...

... Ugh, I sit down on the ground by the door of my house, just staring at the forest and feeling the breeze.

God, what have I done?! I raped him! This is what Reimu would do to him, not me!

I recalled days when I was Anon's only escape, his and Hana's, and the trust I could see in his eyes. My hand rests on my belly, and I wonder if I'll see that trust snuffed when I tell him the news. I look up at the blue skies and clouds... Nah, probably not. He'll think it was an accident; he'd never blame me.

Yet, the same can't be said for me. I'll forever the crime I committed.

... That cloud—it looks like a tiny baby. So cute...

Oh, it's raining.

Great. Just great. I pull my hat down and hide my face, but the rain is not coming from the skies; it drenches my face and dress, and, passing my arms around my knees and pulling them to my chest, I doubted the rain would ever stop.

For long, I stood there, crying alone and lost in my own little world, but a voice awakened me like thunder; "Marisa?!"

It's Hana. It's Hana; it's goddamn Hana!

I looked up, eyes wide and red, hurriedly cleaning tears, my apprentice looking at me with a mix of perplexity and confusion, hastily closing the distance and kneeling by my side, me struggling to get anything out; "H-Hana, I—!"

"Why are you crying? You were late, I thought—" How can I even tell her this? She, who went through so much with Reimu, barely managed to escape, and then was trusted into this hell Yukari created... And that I took part in. My face contorts, tears streaming, and Hana hugs me, my hat falling by the side as I clasp her arms and cry loud and ugly—the adult, the responsible adult, crying in the arms of the child... "It's okay, Marisa; I'm here. I'm here."

My nails almost sink into her flesh, but I control myself, my body shaking with the looming consequences of my actions. I ignored and ignored, looked the other way, indulged in superfluous pleasure, high on dreams, seeking a way out of this crippling loneliness, anything to call mine, and now—

I didn't even notice I was spelling that out loud.

Hana's eyes were broad and confused, the cryptic words making no sense but carrying this sense of inexplicable terror, "Marisa..." She whispered and, with a lump of ice possessing my throat, I fought for each word.

"I... I... We—me and Anon, we..." I said through hiccups, face a deep red. Hana's eyes narrowed, her mind processing until they finally went wide with understanding. "I was so hopeless, Hana! I tried to save him again and again, and it led to nothing, and then your father... he comforted me, and... we..."

Hana's hug became tighter, to my surprise. "It's okay, it’s okay," her voice had a trembling to it. "Was it consensual? Dad wanted it?" I nodded frantically, lie by omission crawling on my back. "Good... thank you, Marisa—b-better you than anyone else." She smiled relieved, brushing my hair. "You two, huh?.. I like the thought of you and Dad together."

My heart pumped liquid courage, her words filling me with warmth unlike anything I've ever felt inside the house behind me.

Hana accepts me; the thought of me and her dad together makes her smile...

... That dream of a family of five—a happy family—burned true.

"Hana," I whispered, holding her wrist and smiling, tears now of utmost joy, the lie a snuffed storm. She looked at me, and the words were easy. "I am pregnant."

"It's not a concern, keep observing and report any changes." The slamming of a door punctuated the end of her statement.

Matara Okina lorded from her mobile throne in her Land of the Back Door. One of the great Sages of Gensokyo, now reclining back pinching the bridge of her nose. "What is that accursed woman thinking…" Okina mused to herself, idly playing with a wooden playing piece carved and painted in the likeness of the Youkai of Boundaries. Her eyes scanned over a map of Gensokyo and the territories of several factions before setting the piece back onto the village, right next to one in the likeness of a kitsune and a plain looking man.

While not officially called an "Incident" it would soon grow into one. At first it started as a way to get back at Yukari and knock her off her high horse, but now became more than that… much more. Thanks to Mai and Satono—her lovely Douji—she's aware of the sudden increase in visitations to Eientei. Worse still, the reports from the Zashiki-warashi say there's a boom of simultaneous pregnancies in the Village, some of whom are married women. Oh the delicious scandals unfolding! Resting her cheek in her hand, a crude smile formed on her lips: "I'll have to hand it to her for upping the ante." The army of half youkai about to be born is a big problem, but the faces Yukari will make when this blows back into her face will be worth all the trouble.

No plan ever survives first contact with the enemy and Toutetsu alone is no longer enough to bring this "Hakurei Shrine Experience" down. Okina was still soured about her failure keeping Yukari distracted—though in hindsight—tea over a game of Mahjong wasn't the most intellectually stimulating to keep her busy. Nevertheless—looking over the menagerie of pieces in this great game Okina grimaced at the lack of pawns on her side. When going against another Sage there's no room for error, and merely her Douji and Toutetsu made up her ranks. Ran would have been nice to have as a strong pawn on the inside, but Toutetsu spoke of some sort of blackmail preventing the Shikigami from aiding in any meaningful capacity. She's almost certain Yukari was leveraging Ran's own Shikigami against her. Could she can get Toutetsu to bring the bakeneko here for safekeeping and 'cut the leash' so to speak? As for Anon… he's no good as a pawn but rather bait. Yukari's fixation on him will be a lovely weakness to exploit. Really? What's so good about this human? Okina remained puzzled to that end.

It was time to pull in some favors. Moriya Shrine was the most likely candidate as they are the only faction with playing power untainted by Yukari's scheme. Her own reservations aside for their disruptions to Gensokyo's balance, the leverage they could provide was insurmountable. Toutetsu vouched for Yasaka Kanako's strength from their fight during the Black Water Incident, and as for the Moriya Goddess herself: Okina has no doubts to the power of one of the Old Gods. The Green Miko on the otherhand is the weakest link of the trio and the most susceptible to Yukari's "antlion trap." Powerful allies for sure, but can she coax them into an alliance of convenience?

Before she knew it the answer clicked into place. A common thread amidst all of this is Anon, and it goes without saying that removing him from the equation would crumble Yukari's playpen like a house of cards. From the rumors she's heard the Shrine had an interest in Anon as a potential marriage candidate after his original marriage fell apart. In that case, their interests align for the time being. Best of all, if she plays her cards right then Moriya owes her a favor. Matara Okina you've done it again! Perhaps when this is all over she can find out what it is about Anon that had Yukari act out like this.

Okina wasted no time in her preparation and stuffed the rolled message into an old sake bottle leftover from the last 'Girls Night'. Kanako should recognize this brand—and she should after she brought it from her personal collection. A small door opened to her side and the bottle was unceremoniously tossed through Sanae's back-door. Only briefly hearing a smash and a surprised shriek before it closed. Bringing another door into view, Okina flung it open to reveal a startled Satono. "Oh Satono-chan~! I need you to do a little something for me~. Make your way to the Moriya Shrine and get an answer from them, then prepare arrangements to bring them here, you got that?" A cheery voice chimed back. The door flicked shut and Okina was left with her thoughts again. If it comes down to it then she'll make her appearance in the Front-facing World personally. "Now then. Your move Yukari-chan."

Negotiating with the tengu was the most difficult part of her job. It was less of a coming to an agreement and more fighting in a battle. Two combatants locked in battle, looking for openings their opponent made, where a hasty move could spell the end. Kanako told herself she could do this. It was a much more personal matter then she brought to the Tengu before, but she would adapt. She waited until the lesser tengu servants had finished setting the table and left the room. Now it was just her and Megumu's entourage. Of course that fox of hers was at her side.

"Miss Iizunamaru. I thank you for agreeing to speak to me on such short notice. We have some matters to discuss" Get the usual pleasantries out of the way.

"I assume this is about the shrine maiden's husband? Or ex-husband I should say" Megumu said, a slight smirk on her face. A direct blow right from the start.

Keep the defense up. Don't falter under the assault "It is. We're concerned what an operation like that will mean for the future. It's not exactly a secret that the denizens of this mountain often use the..services there" Kanako did her best to hide how uncomfortable she was, but would it work?

Megumu look shifted into something more focused "Do you know this man? He was the husband to Hakurei, after all. I did hear that you were getting close to him recently" Another blow, prodding for weaknesses.

Don't give her any ammunition to use against you. "We are acquainted, yes. The state of their marriage made it difficult to maintain a connection. With his departure, we thought we could reestablish a friendship. It was surprising to learn of his new line of work, but that is what brings me here" It was a lie, but just enough to avoid giving the daitengu too much to work with.

Megumu's smirk returned to her face as she took a sip of tea. "We all know how his wife treated him. Is it any wonder why he thought to get back at her by finding comfort in the arms of other women? It is rather unusual to do something so drastic, but it is working. Hakurei is at the lowest she has ever been. She's alone, destitute, unstable. It's working"

Kanko could use the momentum to jump into her next question. "That's the issue. The tengu are making frequent visits to the visit for this...place. There's so many power figures centered around there, The Hakureis, the witch, Yukari. Things might end up badly or the tengu could risk losing their prestige when people start to talk about them visiting the village so openly and in such numbers" Kanako hoped she wouldn't have to go into more detail about what went on in that place.

Megumu leaned back a bit "If things go south, we can always pull out and avoid the aftermath. We're not too involved in this. As for the increased visits to the village, well. that doesn't matter. We take care to avoid trouble on the visits. The humans will never admit seeing us, as that would admit they were visiting too. It will never evolve beyond hushed whispers to close friends. Besides, the existence of a place is useful to us. You do know how Tengu are said to carry men away, correct?"

"I have" Kanako said, trying to maintain a mutual expression.

A grin broke out on Megumu's face. "Let's just say this place saves us a lot of trouble. Very high quality too, if only we had more men like him. Maybe you could visit him? I think you would like getting closer to him." The damn fox snickered and the whole room waited for her response.

Megumu found a weakness in her armor. Kanako took a moment to compose herself.Did Megumu suspect something about her personal life? How could she tell? "I'll decline that offer. "I'll decline that offer. I can take it that you're not going to cut ties with that place?" Kanako said, trying to parry the blow.

"No, we will not. My offer still stands. If you ever change your mind and wish to go, then I'd be happy to accept. I'm sure you would really enjoy it" Megumu smiled, now having found a way to exploit her.

"No thank you" Kanko blurted out, a little too rushed. Megumu just shook her head, a smile still on her lips. With a clap, servants poured out of the doors to take things away and Kanako give her farewells.

Kanko entered the shrine, Suwkao and Sanae turned to look at her "They said no" Kanako groaned as she sat down.

Sanae groaned "I tried to talk to the villagers as well, but no success. They believed the lies about the reason for the place and..er..enjoy it too much. I knew the tengu would make excuses for it, but the humans? It's.....Gugh!" She rubbed her brow. "But I found this" she said, handing Kanako a note "A bottle appeared in my room and had this in it"

Kanako read through the note. It was from Okina. A call for an alliance. A way to combat Yukari and free Anon from the HSE. This was just what they needed. The three of them looked at each other. Not a word was needed.

Her eyes are like tasting lava, and it takes a lot of willpower to not lash out—willpower that I, of course, have—so I simply huff and strike my fingertips on the chair's arm, looking through a nearby window, the vista of the ever-changing forest barely considered, everything but body deep in thought.

Eirin stares at me with undisguised impatience.

"You created the Hourai Elixir," I finally proclaim, accusatory.

"Spare me, Yukari. One thing is using the combined genius of mine and a goddess' power to brew immortality incarnated—manipulating your body to create life is another." My lungs fill with hot air. "Neither science nor magic can understand or explain the natural reactions of your body. For some reason beyond me, your gaps stop you from getting impregna—"

"Why?" A twitch of the eye, hands holding each other to stop any visible shake.

Eirin sighed. "Are you not listening? You have eggs, Yukari. You're 100% fertile, and in any other circumstance, you'd be a mother twice over. But in your circumstance, no matter how many fertility increasers I concoct for both you and your partner—" the last word had just a tint of disgust—after all, it's not like Eirin is not benefiting from this too. "—you're always the problem, Yukari. Your body rejects artificial insemination and regular insemination, and we cannot explain with certainty why. Face it: you're not having a biological child—"

I growled.

No—don't let yourself be affected, Yukari; do not. Calm down. Calm—the fuck—down.

"Look!" Eirin restarted, annoyed. "We can still keep up tests and try more and more experimental fertility medicine, but the chances that your body will suddenly respond differently to the same processes are astronomically low," I need a hug. "My hypothesis for that remains unchanged: your body is still under the stress of the formation of the Hakurei Barrier and will be for, in a wide estimation, another two thousand years or so." I really need a hug... "You used lifetimes of yourself to rise that thing from the ground up, and there was a toll: your body rejects any more biological stress sources as it recovers. But that's just a hypothesis—again, your power is inexplicable by science AND magic."

I breathe in and out, feeling hollow on the inside. So close, so very close... And yet, my good deeds are now sacrifices.

There's a bitter taste on my tongue, and I stare at my belly, imagining it big and heavy with life—a life I created and can call mine...

Life that adores without the need for magical servitude.

"Yukari," Eirin calls. "It's none of my business, but why don't you just adopt a child? You could be saving 2000 years by doing so."

I snorted, motioning my head, "You're right, Eirin: it's none of your business." I entertain the thought of lashing out, of having an outlet for curses and words burdening my chest, yet I gulp them all, hiding them from prying eyes.

Eirin silently stares but shrugs with disinterest. "I've rethought the formula of my feminine fertility increasers," she says, throwing an unlabeled flask of pills to me. "Go test them—one now, one by the morning; follow the pattern until the flask is empty." And, without any words, she spins her chair towards her table, picking up a clipboard with a variety of information I don’t care about, my heavy eyes turning to the flask in my hand.

Pill after pill, medicine after medicine, test after test—always the same result... But Yukari Yakumo is not weak in mind or body. She created Gensokyo; she raised the barrier herself, and she has kept this society working with sweat and tears aplenty.

If Yukari Yakumo wants to have a child to call hers, she'll have it now, not two thousand years into the future. Period.

Walking through a gap with intent, I look at the flask of pills in my hand, something indescribable rising in my chest as ten thousand silent eyes judge me. I breathe in and out, feeling my body tremble, and, with a sudden change of plans, open a gap in the middle of nowhere.

Away from Gensokyo and lost in a pine forest covered by the mantle of night, I stop still for one moment.

… And then I scream.

It echoed through the forest and awakened birds and predators alike, but beyond that, not a single human soul heard it. It was a cry of desperation, perhaps a call for help, of terrible fear and anger. Towards whom? I couldn't tell nor wanted to ponder about it, and as my shout traveled, strands of tears popped on the sides of my eyes, arms hugging myself tight, my trembling body only touched by the cold of night.

It lasted for a mere ten seconds, but the kickback made my head spin, my face red, and my throat hurt from the impulsive and excruciating use of my voice.

I don't know why I felt like doing this, but as I looked up at the moon, a dot of white lost in darkness, I didn't feel any better.

A gap opened, and I left, gulping a fertility pill.

I need warm arms to hug me intimately, to love me dearly, and to never hear me cry.

No friends. Can't get the respect of anyone despite all your power and connections. Try to enact some ridiculous plan to bring the Hakurei family back under your thumb and to finally get laid, only for it to backfire on you. Your own shikigami start to have doubts about serving you. The Hakurei family hates you and one of them would kill you without a second thought. One of the sages is plotting against you. Your slave manages to knock up over a dozen women, none of which are you. This hag is losing.

While taking Yukari down a notch is the goal, there's no shortage of women—powerful women at that—who would do anything to get Anon for themselves, whether it be for status or to get a very capable father for their kid. Okina could try to sell him off to the highest bidder, only to get blindsighted at the last minute.
"Toutetsu I told you to keep an eye on him. Where is he?"
"I was hungry, so I let Ranni watch watch him while I was gone. I have absolutely no idea how this could have possibly happened."

I believe that Yukari is delusional enough to believe she's doing the right thing. Reimu was doing something wrong and she knew it, that's why she kept the abuse at home and was ashamed of Aya revealing it to the rest of Gensokyo. Yukari is proudly displaying her therapy for everyone to see: Anon is getting the medical care he needs, Yukari's most loyal subordinates are watching over him, he gets to see his friends and daughter regularly, and Yukari is regularly interacting with him herself! Anon's geographical limitations are just a side-effect of keeping Reimu out until she reforms herself.

I bet her initial visit to Anon while dressed as Reimu was just a wacky prank that went a little wrong when she gapped in on Anon getting dressed. Then Yukari stepped up her prank a little too much when she pretended to assault Anon. Then her biological gap hag clock kicked in and all of a sudden Anon was bound and gagged inside a dark room so Yukari just went with it. It could've happened to anyone.

Seiga found herself gazing at a most amazing beautiful woman. She had a pretty face, a rocking body, and was oozing with personalty. She gave the woman a wink and dual fingerguns. The woman did the same. Seiga stepped away from the mirror, done admiring herself as she adjusted her Hakurei outfit, which she noted she wore very well.

She bounded past Ran at the reception desk, who gave her a glare that wished death on her. But Seiga was used to getting that a lot so she passed her and made her way to the main attraction. She had to hand it to the gap sage, this was the best entertainment in all of Gensokyo. Sure, the physical side of things was great, but him acting like they were married was something so found greatly entertaining. Something about someone caring you "Dear" and caring for you tickled her heart just right, and unlike her previous marriage, she was free to practice Taoism and he'd only be around when she needed him. No need to fake her death whenever she wanted some alone time.

Although if they did spend more time together, she could even teach him the Arts. If she did, then he's learn some skills that would make him a lot more fun. Oh! Speaking of Taoism, they offered group sessions here, she could bring some of the others and they could defrost their relationship with them. She couldn't bring her cute jiang shi, too much work to keep her in line her. Miko was the obvious choice, her student would feel nostalgic about being waited on and entertained, but if she heard even a whisper of the darkness beyond the scenes, she’d cause trouble. Futo was too difficult for Seiga to understand and might end up confusing everyone involved. Tojiko? She knew almost nothing about her, but it could work. Oh well, she’d find a way to ensnare them all eventually. They couldn’t miss out on this.

She let the smell of cooking guide her to the shrine. Oh, must be dumplings! She slid into the shrine and waited for Anon to come out with dinner. “Welcome home dear, I tried out a new recipe for today” He said as he placed down the plates he prepared for her. In a playful mood, she leaned over and gave him a peck on the cheek. She noted how he blinked in surprise before he returned to his practiced expression. “Oh! Someone is in a good mood today. Just wait until dinner is done, okay?” My, My. Yukari had him trained better then Yoshika. Seiga would have to take notes. Seiga dropped one of the dumplings into her mouth. Delicious! It was cooked for just the right amount of time, and these spices really added to the flavor! Anon was really making a case for him becoming her next student. She soon found herself engrossed in her meal, and made some conversation about hermitage to see how he would respond.

“Oh, I’m fine the way things are. I don’t want to over-complicate things by potentially exposing myself to danger” He said. But for just a second, a frown formed on his face before he wiped it away. My, whatever could that mean? Maybe she would have to bring Miko hear after all, she was always good at reading what people really wanted. A chime sounded, it was time for the next phase. Anon cleaned up and left to prepare the bath for her. Seiga took the time to stretch until Anon came back “The bath is ready, dear”

Seiga made her way to the bath and found some time to relax in the waters. They really used the high quality shampoos and soaps here, Something Seiga showed her appreciation for by stealing them. Hey, her pretty skin and hair loops took a lot of work to maintain! When she cleaned herself off and dried off, the next chime sounded. Oh, time for her favorite part. Anon was already ready for her in the bedroom, waiting for her to take her place next to him. Sure, there was always the possibility of stealing away Anon later if the opportunity showed herself and he kept being so darn cute, but the arrarment they had for now worked just fine for her. No wonder prostitution has been around for so long!

Even if she couldn’t own him, she could still use him for this time. He said he wasn’t interested in the way of the Tao, but an idea formed in her mind about how it could serve them in this mind. “Say Anon, have you ever heard of the sexual practices of Taoism?” she asked as she broke out into a grin. She was certainly going to get some use out of them, that was for sure.

(1/1)

Surprisingly, a goddess by your side and the strongest goat around still are not enough to deal with certain problems: like being a shikigami. Bound to your master, to never directly disobey. I still can't believe Ranni exchanged life in the Animal Realm for that. Meh, she's lucky she got a good friend backing her up.

Whistling, spork over my shoulder, I walk towards the gate, a redhead almost twice my size sleeping against the wall. Is that supposed to be the gatekeeper? Heh... Filling my lungs, I yell the loudest I can, her eyes jolting open and immediately taking on a fighting stance; I'm laughing out loud. Oh, her face! "What the—who are you?!"

"Sup, came to visit Flandre—blonde, red eyes, maybe death itself?" I explained, the redhead's anger morphing into exasperation. Hm? Wrong place, maybe? "What?"

"Nothing; guess there's a first for everything—Meiling, by the way," she said, taking a small bell from a pocket and ringing it.

"Toute—" A sudden presence pops from thin air by my side, and I jump—What the fuck?! "—...tsu." I finish, giving the teleporting maid a glare.

"Toutetsu, hm?" Meiling says, turning to the maid. "She said she's here for Flandre." Unlike the gatekeeper, the woman raises an eyebrow at my spork, gives me a cold glance, then disappears the next moment. Frowning, I look at Meiling, and she just smiles, getting herself comfortable against the wall. "She's like that—Sakuya, it's her name."

"Fucking bi—"

"—The Mistress will be seeing you now," and the maid is back, trying to scare my heart out of my chest again. I can hear Meiling laughing and, before even a second passes, the whole landscape has changed. What in Hell?! Once the gates of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, now a round room full of toys and—

"It's you, the funny spoon goat girl!" Suddenly, I'm being hugged tightly, a red blur squeezing the life outta me. "I remember our playtime! You got all red, big and had glowing eyes, and there were these hands—" Flandre is laughing like she's remembering the funniest thing ever. Sakuya, on the other end of the room, watched over us like a hawk. "You looked so cool, but also so silly—at least it was fun playtime!"

Not many things leave me reactionless, but this one stripped me bare.

Wide-eyed, I stutter a bit before patting Flande once on the head, trying hard to rebuild my confidence. Not two minutes in, I'm almost regretting this. Almost...

You better not deny me my share of Anon, Ranni; "Yeah... Sup, Flan—it's Toutetsu, though."

"Toutetsu..." She tasted my name, undoing the awkward hug. "Tetsu sounds better, and it's shorter—why did you come to visit me, Tsu? Unlike Sis, I never get visits! You're here to play?" Damn, that's sad, uh...

"You see, Flan, I kinda—" Get your act together, Toutetsu! I take a deep breath, the vampire's red eyes shining with childish menace—but also, unable to escape my perception: hope. Oh? Maybe if I play my cards the right way here... "Want your help with something?" Her multicolored crystal wings dropped a little, face contorting into bad omens. "But! I don't plan to get a favor for free!" Ranni, I want an arm! An entire arm! "I will... p-play with you if you do it for me!"

Like a switch, her face shone bright and her smile was big—a killing intention also disappeared from behind me—Flan's words full of energy; "Yay! Of course, what do you want me to do?!"

Some would consider this an easy trade: some playtime with a kid for immense help... I sometimes wonder if our fight was also playtime.

With my fate sealed and my heart pounding, I take out a few blank cards from my blue skirt, Flan's face taking on a curious tone. 'Course, this is a gamble at heart, and maybe it won't even see any use if things proceed smoothly. If not, which is most likely, a triumph is necessary. "How well can you channel your destruction, Flan?"

"... Channel?" She parrots.

After lengthy explanations and a lot of trial and error, something about everything having an eye and a very excited Flan all the way through, I had in hand a bunch of papers, each imprinted with weird blood patterns, carrying the power of perhaps the strongest being in Gensokyo: The power to destroy anything, even a shikigami's bond... Or so I hope.

I blink, and we are now outside the mansion, the scarlet moon shining over us. Confusedly, I look at Sakuya, a small, elegant smile painting her face. "The mistress did her part of the deal. Now, you do yours."

H-huh?! "Wait, already?! I didn't even—"

Old instincts act, and I jump out of the way of dozens of multicolored laser beams—Sakuya already gone—a cloud of smoke in their wake. Wide-eyed, I look at the origin, the lingering heat burning my skin. Four Flandres, each with a genuine playful smile, not an ounce of evil behind the red of their eyes, only joy; "I've been dying for a good playtime, Tsu!" She laughed, the jewels of her wings shining with raw power.

Besides terror, a grin, readying my spork.

... An arm AND a leg, Ranni!

I'm a little glad it turned out the way it did though. From the perspective of others else interacting with Yukari, it's a harrowing experience. Her true nature is her best kept secret that only a few have peeked behind the curtain to see, that being Suika who knows what she is and Eirin who has some suspicions sneak up only now. It could just be the stress clouding her judgment, but I don't think Ran has a clue either and bought into the illusion that her master is this powerful mastermind.
Now it does take the edge off of her character from a reader's perspective, but it feels real to the characters and she still might follow the threats through with the god complex she has. What it added to the overall plot is just confirmation of her reasoning and that she's a terrible person, and that her secondary motive is to make a little gappy. Though she'll probably raise her daughter into a replacement for Ran.
Besides, what is Touhou without a little levity.

agreed, it's really nice the direction she took as a character here, a mastermind on the exterior, but a broken woman inside hiding behind masks and charades; about her edge, though, I think it's still there, but it's snuffed by empathy. When she was just the rapist that mindfucked Hana and Anon, it was much easier to write her as cunning and evil, but the story materialized her flaws, fears, goals(?), and breaking points, and it's become impossible to see her as just the one-dimensional villain of the storyline. I quite like it. This turned out to be much more than what I initially thought it'd be, and I'm all here for it.

Aya didn’t sleep that night. Reading and re-reading the little pamphlet, she thought about everything that happened in the last two days. Everything. Investigating the HSE, meeting Anon again, fighting Reimu, being threatened by Yukari, everything was going to change once those four little eggs came out of her. Suddenly, her life would become the little book in her hands. Except she didn’t have the second tengu on the cover: Her mate and the ring that bound him to someone else was locked up. The night sky began to brighten, so she headed back to Eientei to retrieve the first tool in her selfish journey.

The exchange went off without a hitch: “Reisen,” looking unusually tall and busty this morning, met her in a small clearing that would be covered in plant life minutes after, owing to the forest’s nature. Aya got her pills in an unmarked, opaque bottle. Fourteen exact. The cost was a dent in her hush money. The pharmacist had Aya wait until the sun rose to finally leave the forest “to ensure that ‘Eirin’ didn’t find anything tracing either of them to this breach of her master’s trust.” No wonder the poor girl looked so scared all the time. Aya gripped the bottle and departed to prepare the second part of her plan.

Eirin’s pamphlet described the process a karasu tengu would go through gestating and nesting an egg. She wasn’t kidding, it really was efficient. Nonetheless, the most useful part was a paid advertisement for an egg incubator built specifically for karasu tengu eggs. Normally, tengu couples would take turns keeping the eggs warm. But in Aya’s case, she couldn’t do that. She had her job and obligations. She couldn’t just dump them on Anon either, especially not in a place like that. Something good should come from Yukari’s bribe, so it may as well be this.

Disguised in a brown cap, vest and slacks, Aya made her way to the valley where kappa plied their trade. It wouldn’t fool any youkai into believing she was human, she just had to hide her identity. The worst part was fitting her wings into the stuffy jacket. At least they’ll get some TLC later today, making it all worth it. Strolling through stalls down the river, she finally found the one: It was the only one without a sign, making it stick out like a sore thumb among the other gaudy storefronts.

The tengu walked up causally before noticing that nobody was attending the booth. Even more suspicious was the fact that everything was hidden under dark tarps. Was this the right place? Maybe she should find another-

“Hey, kid. You lookin’ for somethin’ special?” A girly voice squeaked out from behind the stall. Bending over the storefront, Aya found a kappa wearing a black trilby, blackout sunglasses, and a trenchcoat far too big for the diminutive girl of an already tiny species. “If so, you came to the right place.”

If it weren’t for her transaction with the most revered scientist in Gensokyo this morning, Aya would have walked away then and there. However, a miracle bade her to humor the incognito kappa. “Yes.” She worried she would regret her next words. “Do you have anything that can take care of… eggs?”

The kappa lowered her shades and scanned left and right. Aya followed her gaze and found everyone nearby giving them a sideways glance before going on with their business. It was a wonder nobody called the white wolves on this girl yet. The kappa motioned for Aya to lean closer. Hesitantly, the tengu obliged. The tiny creature whispered, “what kinda eggs we talkin’ ‘bout here?”

“T-Tengu eggs. Do you have an in-” the kappa lifted her loose sleeve to muffle Aya.
“We don’t use the ‘i’ word here. See, we here at the Nameless Stall value privacy and satisfaction. But I got the goods.” The kappa pulled out a large glass box from a shelf built underneath the stand. “Dis’ baby can hold up to 20 eggs at once with dynamic lighting, extreme temperature regulation, blast shields, synchronized harmonic sound systems, the works.” She proudly pat the top of the terrarium before nearly dropping the entire thing.

Aya was getting frustrated. This kappa was hiding in pure black in the middle of the day near a river surrounded by colorful attractions, whispering in her ear in front of everyone. “That’s fine and all. But I just need to know one thing: Will this at least just keep the eggs safe?”

The kappa girl’s voice took on a sincere tone. “Lady, I promise on my life that dis’ here will keep any little babies inside happy and safe until they’re ready to come out on their own.” It was enough to convince her. Spending half of her bribe, Aya went home carrying a box wrapped in blackout tape. Part two of her preparation was done.

Walking back into the HSE, two pills in her palm, Aya called Ran’s attention. “Hi! I’d like to reserve Anon for seven nights.”

The kitsune tried to hide her surprise at the shameless tengu. Tried.

>reserves Anon for a week
That's it. Aya has done. She has become the sluttiest tengu to have ever lived. When the news start spreading about this she'll become a fucking walking target, and will probably also spark even stronger competition within the onis to see who can last longer with Anon; also, doing such thing just after publishing a paper about the Miko embarrassing herself... It's like Aya wants her eggs to be smashed or something

Yukari was frustrated at the moment, Chen's innocent questions sat on her mind heavily, Ran's disobedience shook something inside her deeply. Where she was once carefree about that viper-faced women's meddling now she was forced to pay attention since Totetsu proved that Okina was rolling into action. If Okina was moving then that meant she was hunting for allies, and if she was hunting for allies that meant the stubborn Moriyans were the first in line if Okina had any sense in her cripple brain.

The Gap Youkai sat in her small quaint residence irked by annoyance. She was around 180 miles from Gensokyo in a small suburban neighborhood, a place she liked to rest at sometimes when she was annoyed at plebeians and just wanted a nice quiet get away free from servants and the worry of her livelihood. It didn't help that every hour or so one of the busses that passed by approximately 1 block away had a faulty muffler that increased the sound by exactly 14.2 decibels as it passed by... Well nothing that a quick fudging of the break line couldn't fix once it was far away enough to not be her problem anymore.

She just couldn't understand why people didn't understand that she was in the right on this, what was so wrong with helping those lesser than her? She even made sure his daughter got in free and protected those clients from the wrath of the miko! Great... another migraine was coming on... she opened a gap, taking a small white pill from the desk in her office back in Genoskyo and opened another gap, dropping a small palm sized bottle of distilled fine spirits from the store room of one of her little ventures located somewhere in the Turkish peninsula into a carefully manicured hand.

The pill went down dry before chasing it down with the spirits, it always increased the effects of the medicine just right~

Underneath her a fine couch coddled her body as the tv droned on about this and that, national news at this hour. She watched with a half amused eye the schemes and tribulations of the outside humans; a politician caught in a scandal and giving the most threadbare of remarks in apology, some foreign government official giving thinly veiled threats that would never amount to anything, a famous star giving an interview with their vapid mind.

All nonsense that meant nothing to her but gave a sort of balm to the situation that she found herself in, all these apes plotting and scheming without rest or purpose. Not a single one who truly cares about those below them and without a shred of remorse or shame. Nothing like her, this was Yukari Yakumo after all! The women that built the eightfold cage where she trapped the gods themselves!

Yukari swung her body up, creasing the thin nightgown she lounged in and toppling the half empty pint of icecream she'd been munching on. These apes won't outdo her in their schemes and plots, neither would the gods she caged, neither would the lowly youkai that should be honored to kiss the ground she walked on!

Fiery determination filled her body, she clenched her hand into a fist like that drama protagonist did earlier. After all, she got the witch and green miko together, she listened in on the plan and between the munching and thinly veiled guilt of the witch that foolish girl let something slip that would be their undoing!

One of her gaps opened up under the toppled tub of icecream placing it gingerly in the freezer and another extended some kind of appendage which turned off the television. She manipulated the boundary between leisure wear and business wear as her white dress and purple tabbard appeared over her body. She bounded up to her feet and for the first time in way too long she smiled in satisfaction as she stepped through a gap.

The words the green miko said were clear enough, that Okina and Totetsu were gathering allies enough to smash the little diorama she built if it came down to it. While she didn't know exactly what the terms of the bargain they'd try to strike were it was clear what their prize was, it was something she couldn't let them have if the Hakurei bloodline was to be saved!

Despite the distaste of dealing with this two-faced women it was a necessity if she was going if was going to be able to tie up one of the main conspirators that rallied against her. The other side of the gap opened and soon enough she found herself exactly where she needed to be, outside the gaudy lair of that horned women.

It didn't take long for the spirits of those little otters she favored to swarm around her as she spoke to them without a care for what they thought they could do to her, "I'm here to see your master, Kicchou-San is in isn't she?"

7 nights though? Aya is really in the mood to destress isn't she? Is she going to seriously spend 7 days with anon or is it going to be reserving him after hours? By god she's gonna fall for him harder than Ran has.
>two pills in her palm
I wonder what those pills are for and why they're so important. Are they some kind truth pill or something? Do they only fully take effect after 7 days? Aya's masterplan confounds all

It's great, the duality of her character is interesting. What makes her scary is that she isn't stupid. She's a creepy eldritch eyeball monster wrapped up in a shell of cute girl things and relatable neetdom. Her intelligence and perceptions create an uncanny valley between her actions. One moment she's munching on chips and mindlessly watching TV, the next she remotely cuts some schmuck's break lines because their muffler was quantifiably too loud. To Yukari, her plan makes perfect sense whereas everyone else sees it as cruel and unusual. Rather than hire them a marriage counselor or talk to them, this outlandish and convoluted plan is the way to go.
"Why cant they all just understand it's for their own good?"
"Why must they let some silly emotions get in their way?"
"Why do they blind themselves so? You wouldn't deliberately trip over your own feet: are they stupid?"
"Don't they know they would've faded away were it not for me?"
"They must've forgotten. So it is up to me to reeducate them in their follies like the benevolent shepardess I am."
It's a textbook example of a God complex, except Yukari has the power to back it up. She wont consider their viewpoint because there's no need to, she knows she's in the right after all. Emotional pleas don't work because she can prove to you that her plan is logically sound, so what if you think her method is reprehensible. All she needs to do is point out that this is all producing desired results like Reimu's desperation and destitution and showing Anon that things weren't so bad before. All that matters is getting them back together and grooming Hana to be the next Hakurei miko. A little 'trauma' is hardly a problem.

I wondered how the SDM crew played into everything. It would make sense that Sakuya would keep Ojou-sama away at all costs and I don't think Yukari would let Flandre into the HSE in the first place (unless there are heavy precautions already set up?) Sakuya, Pathchouli and Meiling, however, could fall for the trap of checking on Anon's well-being. Especially since they don't read Bunbunmaru to know what the HSE is for.

Come to think of it, I don't think any of the SDMhus were explicitly mentioned in the original or Hana story. He did travel around Gensokyo and forage for Eientei before marrying the 'mu, so he could get to the manor without dying. Visiting with Reimu either before she turned abusive or while pregnant with Hana is possible, as it means free food for the broke shrine maiden.

No, not explicitly, but they had about 6 months or so of dating, 1 year of a happy marriage, 1 year of an externally happy marriage, followed by another year of happiness or so before it truly blew up. On top of that Anon was one to go see the sights as far a a human could while still working enough to eat and sleep in safety.

He would've become acquainted with all the usual suspects that frequented the shrine and likely became at least friendly with most. His face was indeed well known even before the HSE even if he eventually became isolated.
Also its clear that he still maintained some relationships during that time. Primarily Marisa's, but also likely with Alice to a lesser extent, maybe the three fairies, and maybe narumi.

Two weeks had passed since that day, guilt, disgust, and shame perforated her mind like clouds in the fall sky above. What she did was bad enough but now the jetlag was setting in as well, it'd been the middle of spring or so when she had come home to find her father missing with only that disgustingly eerie gap showing her into a trap.

Her body still shivered at the sight of that tear in reality, and did so again at the memory of going into it... All that she saw after that, all that she did, all that she became back then. It stirred in her mind like a whirlpool.

Hana exited that building feeling sick with the tears still swelling her eyes even after they stopped. The way out was just as shameful and it filled her with rage, she ran past the baths and adjoining powder room, into the main lobby, and into the dressing room where she'd rushed out still wearing the mockery of a miko's outfit.

The building was it seemed, not the near empty husk she believed it was. Even through the tears and stirring dark emotions that she was barely able to recover from just moments ago she was acutely aware of the sheer volume of people, specifically women, that were all over the place!

The main lobby was filled with idle chatter, women who payed her no real mind aside from a few glances and side eyes. Some sitting in the padded booth seats, some standing in small groups, some in the taller chairs that were paired with small tables and clearly minding their own business. Perhaps it was due to her training or blood but she could feel the mix of humanity, youkai, and even divine...? energies mingling together in some sick parody of the order she was trained to maintain.

Along the wall was a small kiosk that a tengu lady manned who haggled over something or other, and beyond that she could barely see some sort equally wide, if not wider, room whose purpose she didn't know just yet.

The dressing room was as she remembered it at least, largely empty but not devoid of life it seemed. Standing behind a homely looking reception desk graced with brass reliefs in the same style as that damnable alter in the mockery of her home, was a someone she recognized from her past: Ran Yakumo.

As she ran out of the building towards the doors that wouldn't yield as if she was punching the bedrock of the earth itself she saw a tinge of pity on the fox's face as they made eye contact for a second. Her nose wrinkled for a moment and it was quickly replaced with a look of disgust, Ran didn't say anything as she sprinted out without changing.

The rain had started picking up and she hardly saw anyone on their way home, the few that she did she see looked at her for a second before returning their gaze to their path. No one seemed willing comment nor spend the time talking to or about the girl who sprinted down the mud filled dirt roads of the village.

It didn't take her long to burst into her home as its not like the route changed, she found the door unlocked and the inside in the same state as it was when she left. The inside of her home was dark and lonesome, the air was stagnant and smelled of the wood that framed it. She walked, not caring about the chill she felt from the lewd clothes that clung to her body as she walked into the kitchen.

Like she left it the chairs were flipped, the table bumped and out its place, the stove had long been cold with the kettle sitting upon it and the once wonderful meal that was being prepared sat desiccated as the mold that consumed it had long dried up and died away. She found herself with her eyes closed for a moment, she could still see it, the day before all that happened where she walked into the same kitchen following the smell of a meal already prepared and her father smiling at her as he read some nonsense in the bunbunmaru or one of the Suzunaan's books.

She opened her eyes, hoping for a second that she could open them and as if by magic he'd be there again, but no. Of course things weren't so forgiving. The kitchen was still empty, the food still long rotted away, the kettle still cold and empty, and the scratch marks she couldn't seem to ignore still leading into her father's room.

She walked into that room again, in the same kind of daze she'd been in earlier as she looked at the scratch marks that still lead up the center of the room. The blood that marred the little grooves where her father resisted furiously and the drops that once fell from the bottom of that gap had long ago turned to rust.

The once bloody stains had set, dried up, and all but turned to dust and blown away. The wood would forever tell the tale of what happened. She felt a shiver as she stared at the now calm air where that terrible portal was, it wasn't from the chill but nevertheless a part in the back of her mind knew that she had to get dry and she stripped off where she stood letting the clothes fall where they may.

It didn't take long to change, it took longer to settle enough to rest.

Word spreads fast in the village, it was one of the things Hana learned quickly after she moved in. Her flight from the HSE about a week ago was unremarkable but still drew the attention of the villagers and community at large. Of course it had. She didn't even think about it till now as she had largely stayed in, only leaving to draw water and restock on everything but the rice and spices that was able to keep in their pantries. Their meager savings still somehow spared from any looters that may have wanted to take advantage of her absence.

A thump at the door alerted her to this news, Hana herself hardly in the mood to talk with anyone let alone make happy small talk with strangers. She opened after a short delay where she tightened the yukuta she slept in, and still hadn't changed out of despite the fact it was the middle of the afternoon. In front of the door, under the comparatively brighter light of the overcast skies was a rolled up newspaper.

She looked around in paranoia, as if she was being targeted for something, but this quickly subsided as she saw the largely empty street and skies. No... of course not... 'get it together Hana!' she thought in annoyance. She hadn't seen hair nor hide from Yukari since then, not a cryptic message, not even a disgustingly chiding giggle.

Still she scooped up the paper, vaguely remembering that her father had a subscription to the bunbunmaru despite it being obviously out of date. Today was the day they were delivered as well, though how Aya already knew she was back was obvious as Tengu's affinity for rumors was like a worms affinity for dirt.

She opened the paper, the headline was large and imposing just as that shitty crow always had it, 'Hana Hakurei's mysterious disappearance solved?! Half a year until she resurfaces, her gut-wrenching tale of endurance!'

Hana felt her brow scrunch as she read the newspaper, describing an entirely fictitious account while using a photo of her training session with mystia to 'tell the tale' of how she chased her father who sought out lady Yukari and the Tengu to protect him from her mother who was actively and constantly harassing them in and out of the village.

The paper went on to tell about how Yukari and the benevolent Tengu sheltered him from the wrathful miko with their danmaku out of the kindness of their hearts. It went into vague details, alluding to a previous piece which talked about the agreement that was struck between them where her father would 'publicly shame the Hakurei like she shamed him' while offering comfort and council to the victims she made during her two decade long bout of cruelty.

As Hana sat down at the now spruced up kitchen she continued reading the paper, it stressed, 'thanks to sensitive details that the reporter and investigators of the bunbunmaru uncovered they couldn't release the truth over safety concern' and 'that details couldn't be made available outside of close friends of those involved.'

Now the newspaper talked of herself, she read about this girl she didn't know called Hana who had sheltered with Yukari personally in order to minimalize any risk of Reimu finding the important girl as Yukari trained her personally. She spoke of how Hana had fallen from Yukari's good graces, as she disproved of her father's course of action of and spurred the gifts of her benefactors by spreading malicious rumors as to the 'true' nature of the HSE.

With trembling hands Hana read on about this ungrateful girl, 'While it may be hard for our readers to understand the true motive of Hana Hakurei in spreading such frightful and entirely false rumors in saying that her father is being tricked, blackmailed, or otherwise held against his will and that the prestigious HSE is nothing more than elaborate prison. I'd like for everyone to remain patient with her, this girl has been through things no one should have to go through and put in a situation most terrible. The fact that she found it in herself to break with her cover and return to the village truly shows a deep willingness to serve the community in their youkai related problems. A noble spirit that both this reporter, and any regular of the HSE can attest comes directly from her father...'

The article went on with speculation and interviews with related parties, though at least Aya had the honor to not fabricate an interview with her. Still it did little to make up for the blatant lies presented therein. Her own mother's sadism was one thing, her own struggles with her inner demons was another, but now she'd have to live with this slander as well?!

A not uncommon phenomena overcame her as tears welled in her eyes once again, she ripped the newspaper up tossing it the stove's burnable compartment before lighting it. Much like the wisps of smoke that rose up from the deep well the horror of her life came once again to the forefront. She wailed loudly as tears flowed freely, she didn't care who heard, not like anyone could in this empty house...

depends, tho. Yukari main plan is to put Anon and Reimu back together, and Hana's suicide would destroy what is left of Anon, fully blossoming a Stockholm syndrome; and, maybe, be a blow to Reimu so great she'd lose all of her edge, and would beg to have Anon back and—possibly—their love would be rekindled by putting the pieces of their marriage back together: Anon with his distrust for everyone and Stockholm syndrome and Reimu forever broken for losing her only daughter.
Or Reimu would do everything to kill Yukari, die in the process, and Anon would be free for the taking.

I'm in the final arc because I want to finish Aya fic before I die, but I think the Hana article being published in Bunbunmaru could be worked in. I already set up a thing in Aya 15-16 about Yukari's meddling and I honestly do need a light B-plot to go along with my planned ending. I've also been neglecting Hana lol. I was planning to go super sappy, but this could add the right amount of edge to the story an HSE fic needs to have.
Chronologically, the only point of reference the Aya fic has is a few months after Marisa uses the Momrisa pill. Probably around >>44861980 since Aya visits Eientei during the aftermath of Marisa's original sin. But ace reporter Shameimaru doesn't need some big fancy time-line to find out the truth and all the juicy details!

There was something happening in the Human Village and it was beginning to wear on Patchouli's nerves. Every day, she heard a whisper of it. From Marisa, who she was certain was with child and had been significantly slower on her last attempt at stealing from the library.. From Koakuma, who's previously minor habit of slipping away when she thought that Patchouli was not watching had begun to balloon into something more...addictive. The occasions on which Patchouli Knowledge left the vast libraries of the Scarlet Devil Mansion were so low that they could be counted on one hand. To leave was to expose herself to elements of the world that she sought to ignore. Dirt, grime, sunlight and air so fresh that it made her lungs burn. And people. Especially people. Loud-mouthed, obnoxious, unhygienic and altogether unpleasant people.

This is what made it such an astonishing sight for Hong Meiling to see Patchouli Knowledge standing at the gates of the Mansion on a foggy, dismal morning, clad in as many robes as she possessed, likely surrounded by some sort of weak fire magic for warmth, just barely floating above the ground, and yet she was still panting with exertion as if she'd just performed Meiling's regular morning workout. Perhaps the single large tome she carried under her arm was far heavier than it looked. "Lady Patchouli?" Meiling asked uncertainly. "Are you...?"

"Open the gates, Meiling." Patchouli's voice was just the same as always, despite the heavy breathing coming between sentences. "I have business." She fixed the gatekeeper with one of her harshest stares, though it rarely had any effect on Meiling. Patchouli couldn't say if this was because Meiling simply didn't get it, or if she was secretly hiding enough power to make any threat from her negligible. She paused for a moment, then looked at Meiling again, closer this time. "Temperament..." She muttered under her breath. No, Meiling exhibited no signs of being afflicted by whatever was drawing her silly familiar's attention, or that black-and-white rat. Perhaps Tai Chi's uses in keeping the mind clear warranted further study.

Looking confused, Meiling opened the gate and allowed Patchouli to float past. "Uhm, do you need help...? Should I call Miss Sakuya?"

"No, Meiling. She will only get in the way in regards to my purposes today. Continue guarding the gate as normal." After a though came to her, she turned. "Actually, tell Remi to stay away from the Human Village for the time being."

There was an energy abuzz in the Human Village. It pulsed and writhed, like something screaming out for no one to hear. It was setting Patchouli's teeth on edge, and she was certain that it was responsible for the failure of her spells in recent weeks. She couldn't locate it precisely, but there was something about it...the way it felt like some form of great power concentrated into one spot. Either it needed to be removed, or it needed to be made her own.

There was one curious addition to the Human Village.. A building that looked new, and out of place to the surroundings. Already, Patchouli was measuring up the sizes in her mind, and she came to the conclusion that nothing like this could have been constructed by the humans alone. A youkai, then. One with plenty of influence, if the building could be constructed by them without any notice. Already, a small number of names were coming to Patchouli's mind, and her eyes narrows as she caught a tell-tale scent of Old Magic. Faint, so fleeting that only a magician of equal skill to her could have caught it, but there nonetheless. That dropped the number of choices considerably, and the mere fact that it was built out in the open narrowed it down to one.

Yukari Yakumo was involved.

The name above the building designated the place as The Hakurei Shrine Experience, a title which sounded foreboding at best to Patchouli, who had experienced the downfall of the Hakurei Shrine Maiden through Marisa's break-ins to the library, as Sakuya was well trained in shooting down any annoying birds who dared approach uninvited. The whole place had an air over it that made Patchouli feel slightly uneasy, like debauched things were happening inside. She was no stranger to unpleasant things, though, so she floated closer to the door with an impassive look on her face. Experiencing your very own Shrine Maiden fantasy? Spend time with your very own Shrine Husband? It sounded like the sort of interaction that would make Patchouli sick, either from revulsion or from over-exertion.

The door opened, and someone sped away from the building. Patchouli was able to catch the dark hair and red tokin of that annoying bird she had just been thinking about. Concentrating, Patchouli could make out the signs of a large number of youkai who had been to this building in recent times. Far too many for the human village to sustain.

This wasn't just an attraction. Something else was going on. It needed investigation.

(1/4)

There's silence.

Chen didn't want to come today, and, for sure, I was surprised: she never misses a visit day, yet today she babbled blatant excuses before running off to do whatever. Anon, of course, was saddened, but what struck me even more is that it lasted only a moment. ‘She just wants to have some free time; there's nothing wrong with that—growing girls love free time.’ His smile had an air of experience to it.

So, for the first time ever, me and Anon were alone in the fake shrine, incensers burning Chen's favorite combination, both of us dressed in knitted wares, dry leaves falling on the outside and covering the earth with a mantle of reds and browns, and the smell of mushrooms gave the air a crunchy taste. Fall just began.

We drink hot tea, mirroring that same position during the rainy season, with my tails providing warmth for the both of us. It feels much different with just us, though—the silence is just...

There's something more. Something at the top of my mouth.

I sense movement to my side, turning to see his eyes looking at me and, in the silence that follows a calm smile, a tiny nod, and his face turning to the outside, a cold breeze striking him and making him tremble, one of my tails rising unconsciously to wrap gently around his neck, a gift as he tugs in there with a fond smile and whispered gratitude... In that silence, my heart aches for news. Teutetsu relayed the information to Okina, right? What are they doing now? When will she return and contact me again? Did Okina even accept to do something against Yukari and help free Anon?

The questions rush from the depths of my mind for no reason, and I feel my frown creasing. Why now, at this moment of peace, do I worry? I already do that throughout the whole day, but now that I can escape from all the horrors, this forever static in my ears, these voices one layered on top of the other; the haunting screams that echo throughout the building everytime Yuuka visits; the nights I can't sleep and have to remember Yukari's words, my Chen—my precious Chen—safety on the line, and the many times challenge and fight turned to lust and crime, friends and people that sparked hope in my eyes, that I quietly trusted because there's always an eye over my shoulder, people that could help him just to give in to their basic instincts; and it's so much corruption, it's so much, and I... I simply cannot—

Then there's warmth on my cheek. A hand, calloused and hurt, but soft and kind. I look at Anon again, my brow rising—a question itself. His raises one too, but in a weird sense that somehow perfectly reads, 'are you serious?' And... I just sigh, melting on his hand, his thumb caressing flesh like it was precious. His light, hm? Heh...

Stress has a hold of me, as I've come to notice recently. Outside, I never stop: I'm always doing something to someone—Yukari, clients—am always on the move, wide-eyed, seeing corruption and unrestrained lust, and it's really bad if it's seeping into my only moment of respite. Though, normally, Anon tries to make me talk about the problems; maybe cook or entertain me—after all, he cares.

Yet, today...

He came closer to me, guiding my cheek to his shoulder, where I laid without a single struggle, my nine tailtips bobbing. The wind blew, making the wind chimes gently play their tunes, and the warmth was comfortable and cozy. My mind wandered about, eyes feeling heavy, and I lazily drank from my tea, not even noticing how empty and calm my head had gotten. Thoughts not forgotten, but merely put at ease.

Not a blind eye turned away from crime; only necessary rest.

Without words, as his hand caressed my arm up and down, I could feel the air loaded with a solemn 'Thank you'. If it came from me or him, it was hard to say, but it was simply there and reached the hearts of both of us.

One of my pointy ears tickled his nose. I could feel his throat vibrating with repressed laughter, followed by a tender kiss on the sassy ear.

I breathed in, and then I breathed out.

That thing on the top of my mouth revealed itself as my eyelids filled with lead, my face placid, and I smiled the slightest thing.

I'm glad neither Tetsu and Chen are here; I don't think the inflammation of my face and loud heartbeat could be explained with a straight face.

Truly, there's silence, not a word exchanged.

But words are sometimes not necessary to express yourself. Sometimes, you just need to be there to understand.

Sheesh...

As a dream world made of tenderness and silence called me as opposed to the hell of fire and screams that plagued me recently, I can't help but wonder: who would think a shikigami—a being with the only purpose in life being that of serving the master—could seek something like this?

Seek a life of give and take in equal measures, a life of respect and tenderness, of walking side-by-side, not staring at one's back.

A life good to me and to Chen...

Who'd think a shikigami's heart could bud love?

Ran keeps falling deeper and deeper and it's all on Anon, no magic incense required. It's going to be a bit of a hard time when she smacks into the bottom. She knows better and succumbing to carnal desires would kill her inside with everything she's seen and everything done to him, but it will be a different story when he's free and the coast is clear. I hope she at least holds back enough and has sense to ask consent, and if she's anything like a real fox, winter is going to be very hard on her. Good luck Ran-sama!

Ran recovered from her shock. The HSE was no stranger to repeat visitors, but none of them brazenly announced their plans to visit seven days in a row! More concerning was the client: Many customers were rough with the “merchandise,” but Aya left Anon a mess. Ran had to help him clean up before the next session. What else did she have planned for the poor man? “I’m sorry, dear customer, I’m not quite sure we can reserve Anon for you for seven days.”

“That’s fine. I just need him for seven nights. The very last session before closing. I’d like to start today, please.” The tengu still had a glowing, confident smile on her phase. Ran couldn’t tell if she didn’t know how promiscuous her request was or if all tengu were this slatternly. “I know Yukari gave me free visitation, but I have money if I need to pay for the reservation.” No, this bird was an unrepentant nymphomaniac. “I believe I can fit you in starting today, Miss Shameimaru...”
______________________________________________________________________________

Aya noticed that new on the leaderboards for the attractions, although one still dominated the rest. If she were here for any other purpose, the tengu would have photographed every personally-identifying trace of a visitor around. Instead, she just wrote down the names in her notebook for follow-ups. Her current investigation took priority.

The time finally came for Aya to approach the shrine grounds. Ever since she left his embrace, she was thinking of the best way to apologize for running off the way she did. Perhaps she would simply pretend it never happened and try to have a good time with Anon, showing him that she appreciated his company. No, she wanted to be honest. Maybe she would drop down in dogeza and beg his forgiveness. It would get the point across, but it also might weird him out. The tengu decided she’d simply greet him with a smile and apologize as soon as she had the chance, keeping the da-investigation nice and casual. Slipping one pill into her mouth and the other into her miko’s garb, Aya approached the main building and knocked on the door.

“I’m coming Darling!” His footsteps approached. Aya and practiced the line her head: I’m happy to see you again, Anon. I’m happy to see you again, Anon. The door slid open smoothly and the shrine husband recited his crowd-pleasing line, “Welcome home, dear.” The little tengu started bawling.

___________________________________________________________________________________

Anon was surprised to see Aya come back. After one of his more “active” sessions, she simply disappeared. It wasn’t uncommon for some of his visitors to be a one-and-done deal, but he figured the reporter would try to interview him again after she worked off the pheromones from Yukari’s incense. Seeing her brought up the same mix of emotions every repeat customer invoked: A comfort in familiarity, and a despair in seeing another person in his life fall to corruption. Yet, he couldn’t let any of it show. Instead, he would adapt to her new demands using his months of experience catering to the women of Gensokyo. He prepared for a variety of approaches the tengu may take on her second visit.

He did not expect her to start crying.

It took a while to calm the girl down. Between bouts of “I’M SHOOO SHOOOORRRRY!” and other incomprehensible apologies, Anon managed to sit the reporter down at the table and held her close. She clung onto him for dear life, holding tighter whenever he tried to move. If Yukari’s incense affected youkai differently, this was the strangest reaction he’d ever seen. All he could do was pet her head while accepting her apologies whenever they came up. Soon, her cries turned to sniffles and her tears stopped flowing.

He almost wished the rest of the night could stay like this.
___________________________________________________________________________________

Aya’s tears turned to shame as she came down from her fit. Her first impression had completely failed. It was nice to be in Anon’s embrace, but she found it awkward to keep hugging the man after such an outburst. “Th-Thank you Anon. I’m sorry you had to see me like that.”

“It’s fine, Aya. Sometimes we all have bad days and need a hug.” There it was, his forgiving smile and empty eyes. She wanted to pick his words apart, but that would have to wait. She needed to do something else first.

“Well, I wanna do something for you since you let me, well, cry on you. Can you let me go now?” The shrine husband let her go, just a little confused at her choice of words. The tengu walked over to the kitchen, remembering where the kettle and teas were stored. “Since I let your tea get cold, I wanna make you a fresh batch. This time I’ll make sweet tea, and I’ll make it right!” The tengu pulled out two differently-colored tea cups and made sure to drug the right one this time.

Focused, Aya noticed the differences between the Hakurei Shrine and the Experience. As far as the tengu could tell, there were two: First was the magic embedded in the walls. Every square inch felt like it was watching her. The reporter was ashamed of herself for not noticing it before. Of course the cunning Sage would watch her prisoner’s every move and monitor his visitors. So, Aya pretended to take her pill from the hanging cabinet she knew all too well and wipe it on her clothes. That should be enough to throw her off.

Second was the smell emanating from the walls. It was subtle. Yukari had to know that any youkai worth their salt would notice it. Following her nose to the spot where it was strongest, Aya gave the wall a solid knock: Hollow. There were censers in the walls, hidden from humans that couldn’t track it and youkai that would fall victim to their influence before finding it.

“Honey, are you okay in there?” Crap, not again!

“Yes! I just dropped something! Just stay there in the living room until I come back, I need room to focus!”

“O-Okay, dear. I understand.” He sounded almost hurt. Goddamnit Aya, did you forget who this guy was married to? Just put the pill in Anon’s cup, add the sugar and add a little something extra. Check the cup again. The pill’s in? Good. Now pour the tea. Well done Aya, you successfully drugged the human. Now be his wife.

Carrying their drinks in a tray, Aya carefully set Anon’s cup in front of him before taking her own. She was a little more conscious of how close she sat to the father of her children. “Sorry for the wait. I’ll bet you’ve never had tea like this before!”

“I’m sure your tea will taste delicious, dear.” Aya knew that Anon was being polite the last time. There’s no way he liked six spoonfuls of sugar in green tea. This time his praise would be genuine.

“I think I wanna hear about some of your adventures, Anon. If there’s one thing in short supply, it’s the opinion of outsiders. Tell me how you found your way when you first came to Gensokyo.”

“It isn’t all that interesting. I was just some guy that got lost in the woods before making it to the Human Village.”

“It’s not about the destination, Anon. Tell me every detail you can remember: What did your first glimpse of Gensokyo look like? How did you find out about the village in the first place? Who did you meet first? Every little thing makes up that first walk into Gensokyo, and I wanna be the one to write it!” The reporter’s eyes were gleaming, her pen hovering over her notebook, waiting to make stroke one. Taking a sip of his tea, Anon couldn’t help but oblige her. She made good tea, so he owed her. At least conversation wasn’t boring with her.

“I guess it started with lots of greenery, more vibrant than anything I’ve ever seen on the Outside. Like you could see the life flowing through everything…”

As Anon recounted his tale, Aya had him gently massage her wings. After a long day flying without sleep, it felt good to have her feathery appendages stretched and smoothed while she listened to a good tale. Sadly, Anon ruined the mood by stopping his story any time she wrote a few exciting details. It’s highly possible for a celestial maiden to offer her hand in marriage to Anon after his shirtless duel with six youkai!

“… And then I ended up on the outskirts of the Human Village. I’ll never forget that snake’s sacrifice for as long as I live.” Downing the last drops of Aya’s tea, the human finished recounting his tale for the tengu to record in her notes. “Wow, you really weren’t kidding. What did you put in here?”

“What’s the matter Anon, never had tengu tea before? It’s got special herbs from the Youkai Mountain in it.” She had fun teasing Anon for mistakes any human would make navigating Gensokyo, but his praise really touched her heart.

“You know that I couldn’t go there. All the rules about humans and tengu territory made it impossible to gather herbs there. Now I’ve got some in my kitchen and I don’t even know it! At least tell me which ones come from the mountain.”

“Sorry Anon, a woman has to have a few secrets in order to keep her charm~. Speaking of, I think it’s time for me to get going.” Anon was surprised when she started collecting her things.

“W-Wait a minute, don’t you want a bath? Sake?” Usually, clients came back for full sessions. The shy ones would become braver, building up to sex. So why was Aya taking it in reverse?

“Tempting, but not tonight.” The tengu simply continued to leave the grounds. “Oh, by the way, I’ll be back at the same time for the rest of the week!” That was six more days… Why the hell was Aya coming back six more times?! Anon had to run after the departing tengu to bid her goodnight.

The tengu chuckled to herself as she passed the concerned desk attendant. The pills worked.

(unrelated snippet. Saw a term I used in the past used in the Patchy piece—'Old Magic'—decided to expand a bit upon it. 0 correlation with actual lore)

I tense up, the shiver in my spine and the taste in the air a thorn in my good humor. All the fucking time this ha—

"Ms. Tetsu, is everything okay?" Chen asks from the other side of the checkers board—weird thing I got from the Korindou, but fun, although the rules are all over the place: how the hell am I supposed to differentiate kings, queens, and whatnot if all the pieces look the same?!

"Nothing much, Kitten, just felt the taste of Old Magic—keh, Gran Yukari is too shy to say hello?" I feel Ran looking at us from the stove, Anon mimicking the movement. They exchange a look, Ranni nods, and they resume cooking—geez, who they think they're fooling...?—though; Chen looks totally confused. Oh? "Didjan't Ranni ever taught you about Old Magic?"

Chen denied with the head, eyes big with expectation before moving her knight... or was it the queen?

"Seriously, Ranni?" I ask with a grin, and Ran glares at me. Heh, I can see why she might think Chen shouldn't learn about this—it's the same reason why she left the Animal Realm to begin with—but to deny a bakeneko information about what may or may not course her blood? Mathematical genius, yes. Good with people? Meh... "You see, Kitten, magic as a whole—and danmaku by extension—was created by people. Youkai, moonies, humans—whatever. It was created by beings with souls and empathy, love, and care, ya know? The things that make you feel all warm inside."

It was impossibly cute that, at the end, she looked at Anon and Ran cooking together.

"But intelligent life have been around for, what? 50 thousand years? 100? Life has existed for much longer than that, and life itself generates energy, which is then converted into magic." I move a piece on the board, and my grin takes on a nostalgic tone. "Before faith that created gods and stabilization, the world was pure rage. Soulless creatures in a world without any gods or religion, living to kill and killing to live, to create more of themselves, to get killed, and so on—all of that for billions of years straight, non-stop."

Chen looked like she tried to wrap her head around the idea; "What's a billion?"

"Take 1, Chen, and add 9 zeroes before it." Ran said from the counter, the bakeneko still frowning—Anon giggled.

"It's a REALLY big number." I said, and Chen made a soft 'oooh...'. Man, I have to visit more. "Unlike us, the idiots creating that magic in the past couldn't really use it, so it just lingered on the world, unknown and forgotten, like fossils, relics of the past... Though some of us—especially habitants of the Animal Realm—can feel it; taste it—normal youkai and people, though, have to be born geniuses or study it for an entire life—and just one person ever," I smiled, exposing sharp teeth. "Actually ate it."

"You?!" I raised my chin in pride, moving my knight—gah, no, that's the bishop! "Wow… what did it taste like?"

Ah, the taste. "It tasted good. Very good." Like sipping on wine made from the first ever grape. However, my attention goes to the frown that has possessed Chen's face; thoughtful is the word. I look at Ranni as the bakeneko thinks, the kitsune seeming unsure, and I huff, annoyed. Never a good idea to hide things from kids, Ranni, never a good idea—when they discover omissions, they seek answers.

Best if they come from a trusted source.

"But... you said you felt the taste here?" There it is. I nod a bit, moving the right piece this time. Man, fuck checkers. "Is Yukari…?"

"She's one of the few I've ever seen with a power that draws from that old well of magic, and it's a mystery no matter how you see it—the teleportation is one thing, but those eyes..." There's no need for more words; the mention is enough.

I see her tails dropped, a tinge of fright behind her pupils. "Is this Old Magic... evil?" Oh. That's unexpected.

The slight pulse of Old Magic told Yukari didn’t expect it either.

"Nah," Chen looked relieved. "It may have been born from billions of years of rage, but it's magic with no sides, no lies. Only honesty, as its single source before it was drowned by souls was will to survive: animals fought to survive, and no one was unwelcomed in the cycle of life—for this reason, many also call it Nature magic—not magic of beauty and duels, Danmaku, but magic of survival, rage and—"

"Oh, I win!" Chen suddenly spoke, my eyes bulging. What the—

I look at my checkmated king, having left it alone behind three paws on the back rank, no way to protect it against an excited Chen's rook. "I win! Ran, Mr. Anon, I won!"

"Ah, are you fu—" Before I can even finish my sentence, two pairs of eyes are glaring at me and promising terrible things. These two, geez... "—friggin' kidding me..." I censor myself.

The glare stops, and Chen commemorates her victory.

I huff, smiling, a peak of Old Magic nearby fading. Tsc, that nosy hag...

Anon, Eirin is clearly wrong, even assuming that she wasn't outright lying.
Yukari is never stressed, nor did she exert any significant effort to make the barrier, since she obviously tricked other people into putting all the work in for it; she just ensured that she would have control of the end result.
Hell, she doesn't even have the power to pull something like that off, as confirmed by Yuyuko. Everything about Yukari is just lies and deceit.

Speaking of Kanako I don't know how that anon wants to write her and the rest of the Moriya gang, and I'm scared of stepping on toes. Likewise other related anons don't know how Okina will be written. Slight meta tangent: In terms of "moving the plot forward" the Ran and Yuuma pov's seem to be the driving force steadily moving the plot along and—from my perspective—look easier to write for since the characters are grounded in how they can act. Yukari and Okina on the otherhand can also move the plot forward, but are significantly harder to write for since they're practically omnipotent and care needs to be taken to not jump too many steps forward.
In my case I attempted to write the one Okina post with a few goals in mind: giving a hook for a Moriya pov to enter since they were quiet to that point in the plot, add boundaries for the character to work in the form of knowledge and motivations, and add some flavor explanations for other bits like Yukari knowing about Yuuma's interference despite Okina supposedly keeping her busy; all done in a way that is hopefully in character and could be expected to anyone reading the thread.
The problem I think I've run into is twofold: a clever character benefits from a clever writer which I am not one of them, and the scene now requires one writefag to write for both "their" character and the character written by another anon. My vision for how it could play out could be completely different from theirs, and two different events happening at the same time with the same characters doesn't make sense and satisfies nobody. So I think the best solution is to leave it to more experienced writefags, i.e. someone else writes Okina.

I'm writing for both Hana and Yukari at the moment, for Hana its going over what she's been up too while the Ran and Aya story happen as well loosely relating to moving the plot forward for the Moryian while primarily being smut.

Yukari is way more collaborative with me feeding off of Ran and Totetsu writefag. So I don't one up them plotwise or move things along too fast.

Yukari sat across the gaudily furnished lounge from Yachie, the famous turtle-dragon matriarch of Kiketsu Clan and master manipulator who could use her words to subvert wills and allegiances. Yachie was a master of her domain, sitting eloquently in a tight fitting chinese dress that she no doubt reaped a plethora of compliments on from her sycophants. Yachie seemed to enjoy making her wait, a subtle power move that Yukari had plenty of experience in doing to others, Yachie breathed in a fragrant smelling herb from her long stemmed pipe before breathing out the smoke in a way she no doubt thought showed her elegant nature.

Yukari did her best to stifle a yawn, unimpressed by this upstart pipsqueak youkai's powerplay. Still, she couldn't let her standing fall before the negotiations even start flowing, she opened a gap and out came a delicately crafted ceramic mug decked out with tasteful golden designs inlaid onto its exterior. The mug was filled with a fragrant Arabic coffee, prepared with their peculiar of using hot sands to prepare it. Yukari let the cup's heavenly aroma fill the room and compete with the smoke of her pipe with a soft smile on her face as she sipped at the cup, it truly was heavenly being prepared by an expensive establishment with top quality beans.

She could practically see the suppressed scowl on Yachie's face resisting the urge to ask her if she wanted a cup of her own, no need to kill the poor girl after all. Still Yachie didn't relent, her voice rang out with a renewed aura of calm superiority, "Yukari-san, I simply wasn't expecting guests at this time so you'll have to forgive me for the sloppy preparation but I've had my cute subordinates prepare a little something should you be peckish~"

Yachie reached for a bell on the small overly ornate table next to the sofa she rested upon as if she was the queen of the (under)world and rang it, almost immediately the spirits of the otters poured in from the doorway lifting an equally gaudy coffee table from between them and replacing it with a longer version of it as human servants carried in platters of outrageously artfully prepared food and pitchers of drink that no doubt would've amazed and delighted a lesser woman.

Yukari put her hands together as she put up an expression of delight perfectly crafted to convey her faux appreciation of the hospitality her host saw fit to brag with. Yachie smiled again, unable to hide her teeth from exposing themselves as she believed she read her opponent well, she quickly dialed back the smile a bit as she spoke up again, "Do try some, the food of the animal garden may not be to the pallet of everyone, yet I'm sure that you will find something suitable to your tastes..."

One of the human spirits quickly and efficiently piled piled a sampler platter of the dishes presented while another filled a cup with a fragrant wine no doubt of a quality vintage she smuggled in from somewhere or another. Yukari's admiring smile didn't waver in the slightest as with a pair of fine wooden chopsticks she picked up a morsel of meat and delicately placed it in her mouth. She savored the texture of the near sizzling meat, was that human? quite the luxury to find down here but of no surprise to find her in possession of a supply.

Next she sipped at the wine as Yachie was served and wined herself, it was indeed a fine vintage, full bodied and pleasantly dry with a hint of a deeper spice fermented with the grapes. The wine went down smoothly as Yukari earnestly complimented the bounty, "My my, you are indeed quite the gracious host Yachie-sama. I didn't expect that even the famous Kiketsu family would have such resources, despite the trials of such a land you sure are the envy of the underworld~!"

Yukari was sure Yachie took the implied meaning of the words as she couldn't help but register her smile sour ever so slightly as she sipped at her wine. If this bratty turtle-dragon was going to be smug at her mafia-rich wealth than it would be only right for such a benevolent being such as Yukari-sama to show her that a small dog shouldn't go biting up to a lion. It was for her own education you see.

Yukari knew that such a flagrant display of wealth and power wouldn't be the right approach, after all she shouldn't show up her gracious host in her own home... Well, not if she wanted any hope of cooperation at any rate. Still, this woman needed to be put in her place if they were to have amicable working relations after all.

A gap opened up next to Yachie as Yukari spoke again, "I thought it would simply be rude to come empty handed of course so please, accept this gift out of my personal stock!" Her voice was outwardly sweet as a small satin bag slid out of the gap with a small 'thunk' as it landed on the small ornate table seated next to her sofa.

The turtle-dragon glanced at an otter servant who it loosened the tie on the end of the bag, a rather ornate crystal bottle showed itself filled with liquid the color of a dark mahogany and words in a language undoubtedly foreign to the women. Yachie didn't give much of a reaction to the bottle but Yukari knew that the message had gotten across, "Please do enjoy it at your leisure, I do hope its bold flavor is enough to match your so refined pallet..."

Yachie's smile didn't waver in the slightest but if she read the reactions of some of those spirit servants correctly in how some of their mouths and eyebrows wavered by just a millimeter upon seeing their mistress's reaction than she'd cracked her nut just enough. As the two women sat across from each other smiling delicate and subtle smiles at each other sparks flew, and the aura was anything but as peaceful as the string musicians made it sound like as they played a flawless piece.

The lavish meal had been removed not too long ago as the servants reset the room into what it used to be, the bottle had been moved somewhere else as well if only to get the reminder of Yukari's oneupmanship away from this leg of the conversation. Yachie sat crosslegged on the couch as she faced Yukari, done with the little games that paired with the negotiations of people of their station.

Yukari was ever the ideal guest as she let Yachie began, "I do wonder what one of the sages of Gensokyo is doing all the way down here, while the leader of the Gouyouku alliance ventures out?" Yachie smiled a bit wider, "is she perhaps causing some issues on the surface that your pet shrine maiden is having trouble with?"

Yukari sighed internally, why couldn't people just say what they meant like she did? Still she responded without breaking her mask, "Oh no, quite the opposite you see, Totetsu-san seems to have gotten quite comfortable up there on the surface. Why I do believe that she's even looking up old friends!" Her smile widened a bit in faux ease she read Yachie's expression, "In fact I was just thinking of all the fun we could have if she could stay up there for awhile yet. I'm sure you and your family would deeply enjoy the respite from the bickering over who-gets-what if she were to be further preoccupied~"

Yachie leaned forward ever so slightly, and Yukari knew she had her attention at least. The turtle-dragon thought for a second, "Yes, I do believe it would be rather nice if we could have a wonderful chat with her family as she's out, unfortunately Totetsu-san is unlike to merely idle on the surface once she learns of the situation..."

A smile bloomed on her face, this time Yukari didn't need to fake it as she nodded slowly, "Yes of course, I can hardly count on the same situation to present itself. However, I do believe I have a wonderful method to keep her preoccupied long enough to consolidate those little prizes you do so enjoy." Yachie squinted as Yukari carried on, "I'm sure you've heard of that little project I have going on in the surface world have you not? I do believe one of your subordinates, Biten-san was it? is a frequent one of my customer."

Her fingers knitted themselves together as Yachie spoke up, "Yes, i'm aware that Biten has gone up to the surface at times, she's quite the adventurous sort after all."

Yukari knew she her angle now, "Well i'm afraid that your wonderful subordinate might just be caught in the crosshairs of that brash Totetsu if if she gets her way" Yukari shrugged pitifully as if talking about some abstract idea, "You see, the truth is that Totetsu has been working to crash and destroy one of her favorite venues! If it comes to pass then the wrath of that Miko who see's my operation as something rather... personal... would misunderstand her intention at attending such a harmless diversion."

Ah she saw it... a twitch on her face, clear as day and as obvious as the little monkey's lust. She knew she had her.

Yukari leaned back in her futon, now in her leisure wear and rather smugly resting. Yacchie was so young that it was cute, she almost felt bad for manipulating her like that. Still it was her own fault that she let herself become too friendly with those below her and she'd reap the consequences of it.

Satisfied at the results, she opened a gap watching her little operation through it as she noticed with a sly grin the girl of the hour as she got way too into one of those little danmaku games waiting for her number to be called. She knew she wasn't done, but with the turtle-dragon to throw at them she thought that she was one step closer to being able to guide her lost little sheep.

(2/4)

The first day was okay. The second, confusing. One week later, worrying. Chen didn't want to visit for a week, and it affected Anon. Confusion, fear, and anxiety led the man to ask himself again and again if he had done something to push her away, but I knew that wasn't the case. Chen is terrible in keeping feelings hidden, and some glances gave me an idea of what was passing inside her little head: fear. Fear of something... Or someone?

That's what I expect to discover.

My break just begun, and as I headed to Anon's room I could see the formation of a lie and excuse on the bakeneko's face, "Chen." I stopped her cold, her tails tensing with the stern intonation. "It's been a week—he misses you." I was surprised with her body trembling at that, tails falling and anxiety budding in every inch of her frame, ears down. Why such a fearful reaction?

She gulped nothing. "I... Chen hasn't been feeling very well, and I think I'm getting sick and don't want to pass it on to Mr. Anon; he's human after all, and he may already be—no, no, sorry... I..." Each word added a layer of shivers, and it was like she's being judged—the anxiety she exudes feels old. Whatever she doesn't want to say has been terrorizing her for some time now.

Oh, Chen...

Kneeling slightly and elegantly, my hands catching each of her arms, stopping her babble. She looks at me wide-eyed, tiny body shaking, and sees nothing but a motherly smile and patience: 'Take your time. I'm here. I love you.'

Chen was crying.

Pulling her up like a baby—her nails sinking into my gown, clutching for dear life—I walk towards Anon's room, one hand drawing circles on her back and just letting her cry. Simple glares were enough to dissuade prying employees, and I held Chen's face against my shoulder. It took no time for her mouth to form words and cleanse her heart of whatever she was holding back:

"Mr. Anon... said to not hide things from other people... That it hurts them—I knew it, yet... I was so afraid to look at him again. I feel hurt for hiding." She sniffed. "But I'm also hurt because he hides so many things! Yukari also hides—everyone hides, and I don't understand anything! I hate lies and owmi-o-nmi...—o-omissions!" Rage born from love. "And I tried to keep it to myself, I did—adults hide because they care, right? Because it may hurt those they like…" A bargain with nothing but things to lose. Oh, Chen—my precious Chen... "But every day I've been afraid, I've been mad at myself, and I cry alone beneath the bridge back home 'cause I don't want to worry you two..."

I could feel my eyes fill with tears. Not now, Ran—later.

She needs you now.

"In the end, I've just hurt myself and Mr. Anon," she affirmed, streaming tears calming down as her chest threw away the trash. "What do I do, Ran?"

"What caused this, Chen?"

She stays quiet for a moment, thinking, but it comes out; "Yukari talked to me. I asked about Mr. Anon, and she... I think she lied..." I nod quietly, my heart skipping a beat, that threat that haunts my heart coming to the surface being promptly snuffed. "Why can't I know the truth about this place? About Mr. Anon being here?"

My precious Chen, this hurts so much, but...

"Chen." I call her attention, guiding her face to look at mine. My brows are low, and no smile paints my teary-eyed face. "Would you want to know the truth... even though it may kill someone?"

Her eyes went wide, mouth slightly agape, an alien concept just dawning on her: the lies, omission—they have a motive to be there.

Breaking them may kill someone.

"Mr. Anon don't want to be here, but he can't leave either. If he'd leaves, something terrible could happen to someone he loves." Chen looks like a balloon that just deflated, and it hurts my soul. Telling lies hurts over time, but such harsh truth? The other options of keeping lying and telling the truth are much, much worse. "But this is not remaining like this forever, okay? Someday, Mr. Anon will be free—and we three will have lots of fun!"

A tinge of hope paints her eyes, and it's everything I need.

Opening the door to the fake shrine, Chen just now noticing where we are; the first thing we see are the expecting eyes of an anxiety-ridden man sitting on the stairs and looking at us like we are made of diamonds. He gets up and, slowly, makes his way towards us, me putting Chen on the ground—she tries to take a step back, but something inside her body stops her, and, when Anon is just in front of us, she bows, "I-I'm swo sorry, M-Mr. Anon! I didn't come to v-visit! A-And I—"

And then Chen is locked in the tightest of hugs.

"You baka-neko! I missed you so much!" He spins around, laughing. "I thought I had committed a sin and would never see you again—I'm so happy, you big idiot!"

Then the two are laughing, not stopping even when they fall to the ground, and it's beautiful and I—

My smile falters, tasting Old Magic in the air. Ah, Yukari just left...

... 'His light'. My smile returns.

>Hana
>recovering
A teenage girl doesn't return to "normal" from an scenario like this. Not when her family has been entirely destroyed and all her relationships perverted to hell and back. Not when the world and the people Hana was meant to one day protect are used as playthings in some twisted punishment that wasn't even aimed at her. Not when she learns that dozens of new single mothers were created because this "incident".

I don't see a happy ending here. Why would Hana, clearly traumatised as she is, ever consider Gensokyo as a thing to protect when this is how it treats her? The only way for her to ever even consider putting this nightmare in the past would be to see Yukari cast down and punished. But who would? The Dragon God would never show up unless Gensokyo was placed into immediate peril, and even then he may not hold Yukari accountable - maybe she proves herself innocent, or that the Dragon God can't do anything to dispense justice without harming Gensokyo. Eiki would definitely send her to the boiler room of hell, but that was guaranteed anyway considering she casually severs brake lines on moving buses for the sin of being too loud. How exactly do you handle an alien and inhuman being with blue and orange morality who clearly has massive power over your world? Sure, the other sages will get her to back down sooner or later, but she won't suffer for it.

So what could Hana even to do here? If Hana tosses all care of Gensokyo to the wind, she can probably take down Yukari in a suicide attack (and maybe live to see the consequences). Maybe she'll go on a suicidal rampage that rouses the Dragon God. Maybe she'll lose all hope and just meekly go along with Yukari's whims and accept the atrocious moral of the story (anon broke his promise to his wife because he knew raymoo was going to be terrible and married her anyway so im sticking him in a brothel that mimicks his old life until he breaks and crawls back to reimu who is also breaking down at the same time because her husband is [unwittingly] knocking up nearly every girl in gensokyo) and cope for the rest of her life as she cradles her inbred half-sibling successor to her breast while her parents hold ceremonies for their new batch of relatives?

What the fuck could ever turn this tale for the better? A return to the original storyline as Doremy tells Hana to stop reading eromangas?

That would probably be the best case for Anon - a new life with Ran and Chen in a place no one will ever harm them. But we still have Hana to consider. She is still the next in line as the Hakurei Miko. How exactly is she meant to look in the face of all the youkai and humans she watches over as they carry around her half-siblings? In addition, all of those said half-siblings will not have fathers that serve as role models (single motherhood is absolutely terrible for a child). In addition, (this is based on >>44862210), Marisa's blunder has probably ruined multiple relationships that will also result in bastard children. Some of them could be dumped off at adoption or even abortion before or post birth - but as an moralfag that has traditional values, I find this prospect to generally horrifying.

While I want to see Yukari get the full "Well well well if it isn't the consequences of my actions" treatment, I warmed up to the idea of her silver lining being a little gappy to look after. It still doesn't excuse her from the disaster she caused, and Okina can probably answer the question "How is she going to pay for it?"
Overall a happy ending would be nice, but you're right in how the hell can you get a good ending for Reimu and Hana. Hana can hope to try to rekindle her relationship with her father and put the Incident behind them to forgive and forget; the problem is that it's easy for Anon because he's forgiving by nature and has others to help him heal. Hana doesn't have something to replace what she lost in the way Anon does with Ran and Chen, her best replacement is Marisa since they have similar circumstances and regrets, and turning to alcohol for a coping mechanism is no good either. Reimu on the other-hand is just about a lost cause, her best case is to become a recluse and live innawoods as a hermit. Her life is ruined and how she moves forward depends entirely how long she holds onto her anger and hate. She has no support or anyone to count on, and those that could've been even before the HSE had sex with her husband and burned that bridge. Yukari is an obvious no, Kasen and Byakuren has no excuse for what she did, and neither does Marisa and Hana who were already estranged to her, Sanae at least didn't take advantage of Anon but they still don't have the best of relationships. Rinnosuke could be the only one on somewhat good terms with her. Anon might be the last person who can help and I'm not sure if he would even want to, at least until his own place is secure. Worst case scenario she gets consumed by her emotions and turns into a youkai like a Hashihime. Who knows, maybe Mima can come back, and Genji could still be around.

The kids could probably be taken care of, it would need a concentrated effort since they're children of youkai or villager, menaing they can't be eaten.
But I imagine someone like Keine with help from mokou and funds from Okina could start an orphanage for any unwanted children. Other teachers do exist, and while people call Keine a Yukari plant she is more loyal to the village and seems to distrust other youkai to an extant so she's probably the best option.
Especially since she could erase the unwanted history of the children's birth. Since her ability is Illusionary nobody would actually be hurt by this.

For Marisa and the half youkai children, I just imagine they're mother's could take care of them, I feel bad for the kids but the moms all did rape Anon so I wouldn't want him around them.

I want the psychological thriller ending of Hana waking up to a bright and sunny day and breakfast with her dad, relieved that HSE was all a dream and appreciating her life. Then, a knock comes at the door. Who could it be?

"Oh, I invited a guest over today Hana. She's an old friend, so please be polite."

"Oooooh, is it a lady friend?" She teases Dad, just happy that he has a freedom to make friends.

"Alright kiddo, that's enough fun. She may be little intimidating, but I'm sure once you get to know her you'll see just how caring she is." Really, 'caring?' Jeez, Dad must really be into her. Maybe he'll finally will move on from Mom. Things are really starting to look up.

Opening the door, Anon reveals a tall figure holding a parasol. Draped in a purple dress tied with a red ribbon at the neck, she steps into the household confidently. Closing her umbrella reveals a mob cap, long blonde hair and piercing purple eyes. Hana's blood ran cold. Why is she here?!

She couldn't move. She couldn't think. It was just supposed to be a dream, right? Just a nightmare caused by stress!

Closing the door behind her, Anon steps to Yukari and puts a hand around her waist. No Dad, get away from her! "Hana, I'd like you to properly meet Yukari Yakumo. She's a good friend of the family and I hope you two will get along well."

Yukari extends her hand to Hana. "Nice to meet you again, Hana Hakurei." Does she know? She has to know, Hana can see it in her eyes. Hana backs away, scared out of her wits and wondering which was nightmare and reality, wondering if she's even awake right now.

All Yukari does is smile back, wrapping her other hand around Hana's father.

Ah, the rain of tears when Yukari has to fork over her chests of Spanish Doubloons, racks of 14th century wines, jars of exotic spices and teas, and delete the terabyte of recorded HSE "material" to start paying for cleaning up her mess. Okina can handle the "finer details" of her discipline personally as a reflection of what Anon went through. Though the monthly hag meetup will be a bit awkward for the next couple decades, at least they can drink away Yukari's old stock.

(3/4-part 1)

Eventually, it happens. Toutetsu enters through the door, that ridiculous spork hanging on her shoulder, and I have to control myself to not jolt in excitement. She grins as she reaches the counter. "Sup, Ran—I want more Anon. Is he free?" Her voice is punctuated by light taps on the spork—relief filling me as: rather than a hard equation, it's just two words: 'SAME. PLACE.'

"You're lucky—there's only one more open for the day." A certain someone reserved him for seven nights, after all. "Here's your number." I hand the paper.

"Heh, nice—see ya later, Ran," and she places the sum of cash on the counter, whispering as she leaves to enjoy the attractions.

It takes a lot to contain the trembling smile on my face, but I do it so as I gap the money away after recording it in the register, a conflagration of determination beneath my skin. His light—the one he's trusting to guide him out of this dark tunnel.

I open my eyes, and they're steel. Wait just a bit more.

Chen stares, intrigued.

Night falls, and I meet Tetsu in the same place, gulping down the silent screech of the cover I'm using for this secret meeting. So focused on what Yukari is doing right now, I miss Tetsu's eyebrow rising, looking at something behind me, then grinning—my gap fades when I look at her, and she says, "30 minutes?" I nod. "Keh, Yukari lasts only that?"

"Toutetsu." My tone is enough to dilute her smile.

"Meh—Okina is in." I struggle to hide my smile. "She's searching for allies, and discussion with Moriya has been stellar; apparently they have some story with Anon—don't care. Thing is: Okina is—figuratively—moving and doing things, so stay sharp." I nod, scratching my chin. What exactly does Okina need allies for? Does she expect this to escalate to a full-fledged incident?

... It felt grim how easily I could see it happen.

Before I could sink even more into thoughts, the wind whistled, and I reflectively caught a bead of four weird identical talismans. I analyzed them and, frowning, looked at a grinning Toutetsu, "Nice catch."

"What are these?" One side had spiky, bloody patterns surrounding a white eye; the other had vein-like blue roots, a white goat skull in the center.

Under the veil of the Moon, Toutetsu's eyes shone a perilous red; "On a side, Flandre's destruction; on the other, my hunger—those talismans have the channeled power to absorb Yukari's gaps and destroy the rule of a master over a Shikigami. She'll fall for such a trick only once, so make it count, Ranni—also, don't use both sides at the same time, 'kay? You don't want to explode, keh-heh-heh..." I look at Toutetsu, perplexed—her smile only grows. "That's our little secret, Ranni, your only advantage against Yukari. Not even Okina knows about it."

I... I am speechless. I look again at the talismans and just now understand exactly that I have in my hands the power to absorb and destroy anything: pocket black holes—now I know how Reiuji must feel; "Toutetsu, I... I don't know what to say. I doubt something like this fits the spellcard rules."

Toutetsu shrugs, "And? Isn't Yukari breaking some laws, too? It’s human laws, though, but laws all the same—things are just gonna go downhill from now on, Ranni. We must be prepared, because I doubt Yukari is not preparing right now."

I slowly nod, my eyes pondering the talisman beads again, and cold words of menace against the safety of my precious Chen's echo... Inhaling and exhaling, I gap them away to a safe place, far from any soul and protected from the elements, imprinting the coordinates on my mind with a fire rod; "Thanks, Toutetsu. I don't really think things should get to that point, but... thanks nonetheless."

Toutetsu looks at me from the top of the tree, then at the moon. "We are going hella far for a simple human's sake, don't you think?"

Conspiring against my powerful master, amassing two of the Sages, gods whispering behind closed doors, and a great portion of the female population of Gensokyo—

I sigh, tired...

But then I smile fondly. Tetsu raises an eyebrow, a tender smile taking over her face. "What about... going this far for Anon's sake?"

Toutetsu seems surprised, but then she's laughing. "Sheesh! You're toast, all lovey-dovey already?!" I don't try to hide a smile this time, my face taking on a red quality. Her laughter extends as she gets up, spork in hand. "Damn, this was enlightening, but I think Yukari won't last much longer—also, you might want to get your kitten a blanket! See ya around, Ranni! KEH-KEH-KEH!" And, with a whirlwind of laughter in her wake, Toutetsu soars into the night sky.

What the—

The bushes behind me rattle tensely.

I am frozen in place.

I turn... A pair of black tails protrude out of the foliage's side like a sore thumb. Slowly, the culprit pulls her tails into the hiding spot.

I break.

"CHEEEEEEEN!!" Wide-eyed and beet-red, I pull Chen out of the bush, and instead of guilty I see an excited shine in her eyes. Oh no.

>Worst case scenario she gets consumed by her emotions and turns into a youkai like a Hashihime
can't think of a worse punishment than a racist becoming the very thing they detest, damn. Let's hope writeanons have at least a tad of forgiveness-after-beating-down in their hearts to give us a somewhat happy ending

>"Keh, Yukari lasts only that?"
silly gappy, no wonder she can't get pregnant if she's not even going for the multi-hour course with proper foreplay. Doesn't she know that pregnancy chances increases greatly if the women is aroused?

I bet Anon doesn't even get to come inside that fast. She's just been gapping the seminal fluid into her womb before it has a chance to mix with his sperm. No wonder Eirin was confused, Yukari's been doing it all wrong. The only viral load she ever got was probably in front of Hana
