Cagliostro had basically become like Kama in Ooku at the end of ID. While he's not as cool as Dantes, he was pretty much OP and having a perfect plan if hadn't been for Guda being clingy and busting in. FGO had these issues of hit and miss chapters. ID had a lot of introspection and character development for Guda, and actually dwelled on close bonds with Servants that were developed (as opposed as gacha ex machina) so felt more personal and hit harder. The weakness of FGO is that there are a lot of cast and Servants which of course, it's a gacha, but really doesn't work to build personal bonds for everyone. Nitocris Alter is a great character in LB7 but she was "there" in ID like Gorgon (good antagonist in Babylonia), Lobo and Taira. There's just around as the background with the focus on Dantes and Jeanne Alter (both got voiced lines after all), with Salieri and Marie Alter as important pieces of the plot and more in relation to Cagliostro and Mozart than Guda. Still it works because the bond with Dantes and Jeanne Alter is strong for most of the audience.

Or just look how we can learn to appreciate the conflicts of the relationship between Arc and Shiki and this helps put into context the relationship with Roa and Arc, Roa's true feelings in Ciel Normal then Ciel True Route having Broa and Shiki acting towards a unified goal of saving Arc. How all this will tie into RG with all the foreshadowing and new plot lines probably doesn't need to be said.

There is the implication you can't summon Dantes because he's more a mechanism of the world as the "most famous avenger" (the spirit of vengeance itself). It's not explicit, but the way Dantes speaks sometimes was that it would have been impossible. Keep in mind that the one who invoked him was Goetia. He usually goes to places other Servants can't. Even Abigail with all her power needed his key/authorization for the waste hole. While he was based on that Edmond Dantes, the "king of the cavern" evolved beyond it and is his own thing now.

I think that Nasu wants him to get ties with TM lore as a whole rather than his own niche. Not just with Roa, but his introduction was the antagonist for the KnK event.

It's the ultimate payoff that realizes impossiblilities that had been set up in other routes. Shiki also earned this result and the 'fight' was a thrilling display of how absurd and precarius of a situation the world is in now that ae has been 'broken' free of her emotional restraints. Always one moment away from the end and it conveys the powerlessness of humanity before the might of nature perfectly while also emphasizing the hope and merits of humanity's persistance while decorated with Tsuki's unique trappings.

You're also being disingenuous about pulling abilities out of nowhere. He had spent the better part of the route becoming progressively transformed as a vampire as he fused with Roa. This comes with a very harrowing showing of the process including the bodily changes through Shiki, Noel and Ciel. We also wttness the growth of his abilities and how the human view is a major limiting factor that diminishes the more he uses his blood. If you're annoyed that Shiki can adapt and learn quickly, consider that Roa is a genius that makes your favorite scholar/mage look like they ride the tiny bus to school and is whose memories Shiki has. He's got a good teacher. He himself is also a genius on par with Roa(in a different way). Ciel True is a far better "fight" and show of writing than the entirety of FGO, yes.

It really is desu. It's crazy how important Ciel True Route is to Arc's character and relationship with Shiki for example and that's only one factor. It really goes in depth on exactly what he did to her on a tangible level and why her newfound freedom and prioritization of emotion sets her apart from other TA. Her conscious mind has changed as her defenses have been broken and she no longer is restricted by the TA dress code. Her pride as a TA is in shambles and it's wonderful because she now has things that truly belong to her, born of her and Shiki, rather than what she's received from the planet. It is a branch off the Ciel route. It does more than add context and depth to the relationship between Arc and Shiki. It's the ribbon that ties Near Side together. A natural progression of Ciel's moonbow as she who longed for death now fears it and struggles against what seems like an inevitability in order to live and move forward again. A display of love and understanding of Shiki that challenges Arc's.
Seeing her battle and the lengths she'd go to, even further sacrificing her humanity(whereas she had only wanted to die as a human) and risking a fate worse than death was beautiful progression of her character, relationship with Shiki and rivalry with Arc. All while showing the heights mankind can reach relative to transcendentals(Nature/Gods and religious motifs also come into this with the Luminary system and her as an Executor). Man's determination and perseverance in the face of the overwhelming forces that exceed their imagination. (Connects to Shiki who embodies this best of all at the end as he gradually bends the forces of nature and survives the primordial earth as a microcosm of humanity's voyage, even taking a trip to the origin as a fragment of Roa's moonbow appears.).

Shiki's overcoming the impossible while running on all gauges empty to achieve an ending(miracle) he'd be satisfied with(finally). This naturally plays off the idea that the tragedy of the prior route stems from the error Shiki makes(with the best of intentions to free Ciel/Arc) in choosing to die with Roa rather than doggedly cling to his degrading life. An error in the moment that sealed off the future he had desired but taught him(and the reader) valuable truths and sets him on the path to achieving a unparalleled miracle that his previous life couldn't even conceive of(While different from resurrection in Ciel Normal, Ciel True is him achieving miracles one after the other). Him showing the fragility of such a grand concept as perfection and that the only absolute is death(I don't need to explain how this underpins everything right? He comes to accept his power as a reassurance and proof of normality amid the abnormal world that Arc's rampage has brought about. Shiki as the one who walks a boundary in many ways.) in the awakening of Arc from her dream. Crossing the boundary and becoming that which he hates in order to hold onto everything he's gained. Rejecting the dream(fiction) in favor of reality, which references a major reoccurring concept in Tsuki, especially in how it loops back to Arc route's what ifs, lies(prologue) and what will inevitably be Arc True as he stacks w's and regains what he's been deprived of(RG routes coming in hot).

Roa finally being able to change after 800 years and understand his own feelings... putting the exclamation point on his journey throughout history. The way his reincarnation, which you could say a lot about, allows him to encounter and relate towards Shiki as the two men who loved perfection is so well done and the true route is what allows these enemies to join hands and seek the same destination. I'm not even doing a good job of touching on everything or their significance desu. Maybe give it another try since there is a lot more going on than you appreciated. I feel stupid for taking the time to write this but longfightbad is so dumb.

Hear me out, this is the biggest plot twist in Typemoon.
It will be revealed that Soujuurou is saved by Aoko but ultimately fated to be dead anyway, thus he is in the boundary of life and death.
Due to Aoko's 5th magic time fuckery, he is thrown back in time to avoid death, when he continued to live from Mesopotamian age of god to Middle Age.
He remembers the God Aoko once mentioned and at some points started to devote his life to that God. Eventually, he, an assassin himself, founded the Order of the Assassin.
When people asked who he is, he remembered his home aka the mountain, and answered "Old man of the mountain", The First Hassan I Sabbah.

I think they're all good looking. Shiki is really hot especially when he's being "more barbaric than any DA". Kiri is basically the same. Kouma, Vlov, Zepia really hot. Nrvnqsr is veiny but I bet he'll be sexed-up in Remake. Roa/SHIKI is obvious. According to Nasu, themes are essentially everything. Stellar character/relationship writing is all there anyway and it goes beyond just the three of them.

Arc is obvious even to the willfully ignorant but how does one not appreciate all the subtle development for Ciel and Shiki? Did you miss how she's got self-hate and shame? Shiki's puppy-dog behavior(You seem to like slice of life parts so you should have picked up on this) is helping to positively enforce and change her opinions on herself and overwrite the fact that her immortality is a reminder of her sins as a victim of Roa. By the end she's asking the very body she hated for forgiveness and to not give up on her. Despite Shiki's feelings for vampires and his recognition(he was unconsciously trying to disassociate her from vampires), he accepts her for who she is and doesn't give a fuck because he loves her. He spends the story propping her self-esteem up which is exactly what she needed.

Roa is a snake that taints all he touches and whose obsession of immortality and eternity left behind an exceptional body whose nearly perfectly immortal. What he would find beauty and value in is what she found vile and disgusting. Something linked solely to sin, humiliation and tragedy. Her stolen humanity, her stolen normal life and even her stolen capability to die. She stopped living not so unlike the Dead, trapped by the past. And it's through her relationship with Shiki, who challenges her own disregard for herself that she witnesses her rainbow in the night and returns to being human. She finds her purpose.

They both find meaning within each other. He pays it forward in the end, reinforcing her own wish for atonement and the beliefs that saved him from despair. That glimpse of happiness and the life she could have had is represented by Shiki and while she doesn't believe it's her place or that she even can find forgiveness, Shiki is there to pull her forward with an unwavering heart. He who should prioritize himself above all else chooses to live and die for her, staying beside her on her journey, hoping the day will come when she forgives herself and having faith in her until the end. He's her miracle who embraced her as no one else could when she felt as if she deserved nothing. What animates her is the desire to prove his feelings are not misplaced.

His faith in her is why there is a bad end by taking things into his own hands and ending the fight with Noel early out of a selfish desire to spare Ciel pain. He understood, observant as he is, that it was not his story to end and instead prepares for the rightful star. The dynamic between Noel and Shiki here deserve its own exploration as they're two characters vying for the leading role(Nanaya stuff) which makes Shiki's choice all the more weighty. The one to put an end to it all had to be Ciel who he fought tirelessly for, always believing in her ability to triumph over the nightmares of the past that bound her. It was that belief, love and hope for their future that lets her awaken to reality and start truly living.

Pointing out how unique Shiki and Ciel are since they're literally the same person on some level through the process of becoming Roa. Shiki received the memories and records of Elesia as if they were his own. Toss in the trip down memory lane via Noel and you should see how unique their relationship is and the connection that is shared as hosts of Roa.

Moreover, Arc has a moment that Shiki falls in love with and is brought back to time and again, Ciel also has a comparable moment. That of an executor fighting a lonely, thankless yet heroic battle to protect everyone. Shiki admired that and would fall in love with it. He saw the truth of that moment before he understood it. The sorrow of a girl no different than any other, tears in her eyes and possessing a pain that he somehow understood. Of course he would, he's lost everything himself, even his past and capability to know his own loss. He sees her as the most important and lives for her. Their love for each other is complete, an appreciation both of the body and the heart. Of course as we see, she's not one to lose on love and will just as readily sacrifice it all for him. It's heavy and beautiful. Their love is that strong and the ending they arrive at in Ciel True was both hard fought, well earned and fulfilling. No matter the trials that await, they'll get through it together. Two sinners living the 'journey'/state of being of atonement. The fun has just begun.

Love is the ultimate power and answer to humanity's journey. The banal answer to life. When all else fails, Shiki will never run dry on love. They're cute and loveable as fuck together. The relationship gets full marks.

As I typed this, I realize how similar Shiki and Roa are in how they both have these images of the ones they love burned into the pages of their souls to never fade. Remake is actually a generational work.

LB7 is arguably the best chapter. Tez, Kuku, the Deinos, Cam all good. Tepeu is unironically the best of them and that's not just cause Tsuki clears. Best scenes in the chapter are Tepeu&Mash, Tepeu&Kuku both at the end, and Tez time talk.

Because it was Nasu's Game of Thrones, without as many incest and sex scenes. The interesting parts were the world building. His book for LB6 (the only chapter he published a special book about it), shows each Clan symbol too. It would make a great RPG fantasy story.
