hi /jp/ tomodachis, do any of you guys have experience with moving to japan? looking for some advice on my game plan so far and whether i'll land anything in Tokyo or not.
i've been learning japanese for 3 years on and off now (going to give my N4 exam this year at the end) and want to eventually reach N1 by the time i try move in 6 or 7 years.
by then i should also be done with my bachelor's in physics/math and have gotten 4 or 5 years of work experience (i only have an internship in university right now)
i also have italian citizenship and around 10k saved up, which will hopefully be 40 to 50 by the time i actually move
any tips?

Yea you can easily move their just by getting an education visa. If you don't want to learn academics you vould just get a cultural exchange visa which allows you to study martial arts, drawing, kabuki, bonsai, whatever. Also you can teach english if you know it bit its harder for non english natives. Also just get a working holiday visa when you first land if you want to bum around. My thoughts
>do N4 and aim to pass, if you pass do N3 6 months later, basically try to get to N1 ASAP - JLPT doesn't really indicate your actual level of skill (I know this is contrary to what they say), so don't treat it like a part of your actual studies. It is a literal tickbox exercise
>get some work experience in Italy (seems like you'll do this)

You have a good plan, but yes it will be very hard for you to get a job in your field like others say. I would recommend spending some time in Japan first to get a feel for the place - the working holiday visa is a good shout, you could spend like half a year in Japan. If you don't want to do that then go on a regular holiday and spend 3 months there, this may seem like a lot but if you don't enjoy 3 months there without any stress then whether or not you'll manage 3 months in a Japanese workplace is in question.
If you don't want to go the academic route then you can apply to JET as the ultimate final backup if everything doesn't go according to keikaku, or language school for a year or two, but bear in mind you can only work 28 hours a week on a student visa and you would also need to go back home once your time at school is done.

Not necessarily. There's a lot of rare words and one-offs you'll encounter in any given piece of media, and the fastest way to memorize them is through Anki.

Read about AJATT recently, is this actually legit? I started watching some anime raw and listening to it as audio afterwards when I do daily things, but I'm not sure if it's actually helping. I read on one hand that you should start immersing as soon as possible, but in the same breath people say not to listen to "white noise" I've not really been understanding any of my immersion, but I can understand a little bit of some visual novels. Maybe I just need to read more of my grammar guide I guess.
