So I've been playing Eosd, trying to complete it on normal with no continues. After two months of difficulty and sheer rage I've done it. So I decided to move onto PCB.

Is it just me or is there a huge difference between the two games? While it's pretty clear the art is different, there's also some other changes that I can't put my finger on that make it feel very different. E.g. I'm not sure but I think the actual screen is smaller. I remember running around like crazy in Eosd trying to collect powerups and items after I'd just died and it being quite difficult to pull off but it's just trivial in PCB.

Well, hitbox for one.

Practice Mode is your friend, EoSD's in particular.

>> No.4803752

Why are you asking? Play it and see it for yourself

>> No.4803767

Take 2 screenshots and solve the mystery.

It's probably something like faster characters and slower powerup falling.

Guess I should have been more specific.

I am playing PCB but the feel of the game is very different from that of EOSD. Perhaps it's because I've been playing EOSD for a while now but when I play PCB it doesn't seem very similar to EOSD but I'm not sure why. I was hoping someone could point out the minuscule differences to me. No need to point out things like the border system or visible hitbox but the slightly more insubstantial things like the artwork and so forth.

Well, you're going need to know exactly how the cherrypoint system works so you can get more points and extra lives.
Besides that, I think grazing is encouraged more in this game, but I'm not sure.

1. EoSD is harsh on mistakes. PCB gives you like 60 bombs and lives with SakuyaA. EoSD gives what, 2/3rd that?
2. And unlike SA, bombs don't drop your power and can be used to skip practically any card to boot
3. As if that's not enough, you have borders, which are practically extra bombs. You also autocollect during borders which helps power/lives.
4. Hitbox is visible.
5. The part of the game that matters (Prismrivers onwards) has some of the easiest bosses on the series (survival-wise)
6. PCB is about planning. Learning patterns and where to bomb and such. EoSD's random bullets is a bit more frantic.
7. I think rank system is also toned down.

ZUN stated himself that EoSD was intended to be more western for some reason or another, that could explain the dissimilar character design.

>> No.4803806

When I first was playing EoSD, I found a mod or something that added hitboxes to the character models which I felt really helped me, maybe try that. But I also feel it's quite a bit harder than some of the later ones.

>> No.4803812

EoSD patterns are simpler and more random on average.

Cheers.

It's not like I've ever played shmups before. I do admit that I could have done a lot better but I lack consistency, making too many silly mistakes and not bombing enough.

>> No.4803826

I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, but the music in EoSD is much different from the music in the other games. It's got more of an electronic feel than any of the other games, if you ask me. Even more so than the PC-98 games, surprisingly. It's kind of like ZUN was listening to Bruch Haack when he wrote the tunes.

>> No.4803832

- Extra lives from certain #'s of point items, instead of just points themselves
- Different bomb stocks for different characters
- Different focuses and unfocused bombs
- Longer deathbomb time
- 9 lives in practice instead of 3
- Bigger item get hitbox (i think)
- Character specific perks

EoSD also had less items and less dense bullets (generally) which were compensated for by higher speed and more randomness. PCB's bullets tend to be denser, slower, and in patterns.

If that's the case, I want him to listen to Bruch Haack while making the Touhou 13 musics

>> No.4803850

Music:
EoSD > PCB = IN

Cast:
EoSD > PCB > IN

Overall
Zun = God

>> No.4803861

So many good tunes in this game...

>> No.4804149

I used a laptop keyboard when I first played Touhou and I sucked dick.

Used a mechanical keyboard afterwards and got much better.
