Friend's wife drew an OC touhou (donotsteal).
She isn't into Touhou, not even secondary level.. She just likes one character and doesn't really care about anything else.

Anyway I was talking with a friend about "I wonder when ZUN will come out with a summer-themed touhou, we have spring, winter, and fall.. But no summer."

And then suddenly I have a drawing of a blonde inner tube loli with frilly swimsuit and water wings.

Looking pretty good, you almost had me fooled. The front gate looks a bit fake - specifically the metal part gives it away. The shadows on the grass/trees/shrubs also look a little off, maybe a bit too ambient at parts? Aside from that, the textures on the house look like they could be a bit more detailed. It looks too clean cut. Good job though, looks nice.

She needs to be some sort of obscure mythological monster, though. That giant oil snake (ikuchi? ) is good. She'd use oil based attacks that cause that slipping effect found in many an ice level, except it'd be ridiculously annoying because it's now combined with danmaku (attacks that mess with your controls are the worst, see Subterranean Sun) and drip oil all the time.

Basically the similarities are much bigger than the differences IMO. But she is stiill moe.

I'd say keep on fine-tuning her design; characters always go through many revisions anyways.

So I'm working on my Shiki comic and before I get started making her I decided to make the desk and environment. I decided that she would use a banker's lamp since she's all classy and whatnot. 3D.

I don't know how exactly things work but first you gotta do is setup an HDR light or use a gradient for nighttime. Just find a picture of a night sky and make a gradient material copying the colors found in the sky. Then set that to provide GI(general illumination). Once that's set up you can start adding individual lights.

This is supposed to be Shiki's desk but I don't like the way it looks at all. I think I'll revert to the old color scheme- blue and black with gold trimmings. Any suggestions to make it fit the character more? What kinds of things can I add in the background that would be appropriate?

I'm pretty bad at the points I'm about to call you on, so you don't really need to listen to me if you don't want to.

Anatomy and proportions. That's all that's really wrong with it. Unfortunately, that requires redoing the image to get it right. I suggest looking at actual riders and horses to get an idea of what it would look like if someone were on the horse. I don't mean this in a "learn to draw hyper-realistic before you attempt anime" way, by all means draw in whatever style you desire. I mean this as a way to understand how exactly how your subject works so it looks believable.

In your case, the anatomy of a horse, how one sits on a horse, and how the gravity affects the rider when the horse jumps up like that. I made a really really quick sketch to kind of show what I mean, though it's not the best reference. Google some horses, horse riders, and even armored horses if you want to understand the subject matter better. The more you understand it and the more you draw it, the better it'll look, regardless of style you draw it in.

I suppose. While it would work for practice, you don't particularly need to copy a specific pose. If you grab enough images and you're visual enough you can just see how something should look and use your imagination to create something that works. There are a lot of perspective shots that would be rather difficult to get straight reference for if you just simply copied.

It's a series of small detective VNs that combine and create a longer story. The stories and characters are original, but some aspects of the stories and characters are taken from published detective fiction (Christie, Doyle, Connelly, etc.). There's already a concept artist at work sketching main characters and a logo, so you can see some images if you're interested. There's also a demo.

which parts? i'm not exactly sure what do you mean about the face, as for boobs i tried to make them use some more gravity this time, since the last time i drew someone said they were too mass-less or something like that.

maybe the right side boob didn't come out too well. dunno.

i compared the body length to few other pictures and the torso length seemed ok. maybe it's the boob size that makes it look smaller?
