I used to have 2 external, one 500g that was full and my 1 TB. My 500g died suddenly one day and I was completely devastated. I still remember how long it took to rebuild from that, fuck, theres still a shitton of VNs I haven't redownloaded just because so many were left half-done and all I could think is, "Fuck it".

I view every piece of technology as my friends/girls/daughters/girlfriends. I have to perform surgery on my PS3, my baby girl, to replace the disc-drive because it died the other day.

I have plenty of replacement parts for my computer, my Waifu, so that I can keep her going until oblivion. though she sometimes like to fight with me, but I can make her agree with me with a little coercing. I still keep all the old dead parts of all my past computers too. I cry manly tears whenever my computers die on me.

All my MP3s, my friends, have been by my side in hard times, though I lost my first 40 gig MP3 player, and my 60 and 80 gig i-pods died on me, I still use an 80 gig and a 4 gig once in a while whenever the battery life on my 32 touch dies. I gave one of my 80 gigs to a good friend of mine for his birthday, so that one is alive and well. but I buried my old CD players and MP3 players whenever they die. such sad times.

My oldest daughters, being my old consoles. still live and still perform, I like to play with them whenever I can.

all in all I dread the day whenever my girls die.

"Ple-please be gentle anon-kun... this is ... no, don't look there! ..."
Computer-chan leds turn red with embarrassment as I remove her tiny childish case. Her alluring private parts are spread before me; I move my crotch near it and feel the hot temperature through my pants... I can't hold on any longer. I rip apart my clothes and grab my erect member, plump with blood and ready to explode at any moment.
Computer-chan sees this gasps, and avoiding eyecontact, she speaks in a soft, almost inaudible and extremely embarrassed voice
"...it's okay to p-put it in my c-cpu fan..."
I'm way over my limit. I violently push my member against her precious chip. I know the fan will rip my cock apart in a matter of seconds, but my pelvis thrust forward without my consent.
I feel an incredible burning sensation, as if the top of my cock is melting against the CPU; it's too much. I ejaculate right away, unloading thousands of gygabites of my nut data into her processor, my orgasm overflowing my senses.
Unfortunately my burning cock is shred to pieces while I continue to cum. Blood and semen splatter everywhere inside the case, and I feel a horrifying buzzing and painful shock coming into my body through my penis. I am getting electrocuted. I am going to die, and I'm going to die while shortcutting the one I love. My body feels numb now, and my consciousness begins to fade. As I draw my last breath, I can hear Computer-chan's painful voice. She's dying too.
"I love you, anon-kun"
We embrace in our final moments, and suddenly my mom comes in without knocking, ruining the mood completely. This is the worst. I die in shame.

Go to computer recycling drives and pick up everything that looks to be in working condition. A lot of things turned in there aren't really broken, just they they've been upgraded out of. You can also save all the parts you upgrade out of your main PC until you have enough to make a second PCGet the core system working, slap together a JBOD RAID with all the working HDDs you got from the drives, stuck it in your closet and turn it into a media server and torrent box.

>Is there anything more frightening to a neet than having their only pc break down?

Yes. Having no backups when it dies. Everything else is replaceable, but if your HDD dies and you have no backups, you're fucked. Cost of recovery in this case is usually twice the cost of the same HDD brand new (the first new one becomes the donor to revive your dead one and the second one has all the salvaged data copied to it), not to mention cost of the work itself and time wasted.
Dead PSU is next to that, as dying PSUs tend to take something else along with them when going to hell. Don't buy cheap ones or you'll end up replacing half of your PC.
Also, don't get rid of old computer parts. They're always useful in diagnosing or recovery, and you have plenty, you can assemble backup PC or seedbox/media center.
Have some bootable media (CD/DVD/flash drive) with recovery & testing programs (Hiren's Boot CD, for example - it has flash drive version too) - it may save you a ton of hassle.

My computer is getting a bit worn out, and he is a bit slower than the faster and younger ones out there, but I live him anyway. Hes made me happy for more than just a few years now, and I've even bought him a few nice things to help him keep up, but he is never nearly as smart or charming as the newest ones. But that doesn't matter. He may only be able to pull in 30 FPS on WoW at medium settings in a sparsely populated area, and it may take him forever to pull up larger videos...
