It's not too bad. My computer was dead for about 3 months until I scrounged up enough money for repairs.

I just read stuff, played video games, and doodled until then.

My PC looks like she's made in a cave out of scraps, is missing half her buttons, has trouble running well, everything (including Elona and VNs) and innocuous things like trying to burn a disc crashes her.

I still love her. She's the only friend I have. I sometimes comment on how useless she is, but feel sorry afterwards and keep apologizing.

I have a laptop for dire emergencies and enough spare parts to replace in either desktop or laptop should something go bad.

Also your data's fine. It's pretty much always recoverable except in cases of actual physical damage.

No, it's fucking horrible.

I used to have 2 external, one 500g that was full and my 1 TB. My 500g died suddenly one day and I was completely devastated. I still remember how long it took to rebuild from that, fuck, theres still a shitton of VNs I haven't redownloaded just because so many were left half-done and all I could think is, "Fuck it".

Having my computer itself die is a nightmare I try not to think about. Seriously, if my house ever caught fire or something I would just be helpless.

I can't imagine living without my pc...

I did the same with mine, before I bought a new one because it kept crashing whenever anything more than text appeared.

I still feel bad for it.

Last time my harddrive died, I had everything I wanted backed up on an external cause I saw it coming a mile away, and I managed to beg a laptop off a family member.

I'm not going to be so lucky when the laptop dies. Should really back up everything again , but effortttt.

I finally got a good computer and still have an old one for backup.

Being without internet is just as bad. Thanks to some bad thunderstorms, I was without internet for almost a week. Thankfully, I had more than enough things saved up to keep me busy, but even that would only last me about a month.

I can't really think of anything worse.

I still love her. I fix her up now and then, new graphics card, new processor, etc, but she's still got the same motherboard, case, etc. I think of her as my lovely daughter who loves me unconditionally, and understands all my fetishs, wants, hobbies, etc.

My main PC actually had a PSU failure a few days ago and I'm confined to my laptop for now. Gonna fix it tomorrow when parts come, but I'm scared that other things are going to have been damaged.

I view every piece of technology as my friends/girls/daughters/girlfriends. I have to perform surgery on my PS3, my baby girl, to replace the disc-drive because it died the other day.

I have plenty of replacement parts for my computer, my Waifu, so that I can keep her going until oblivion. though she sometimes like to fight with me, but I can make her agree with me with a little coercing. I still keep all the old dead parts of all my past computers too. I cry manly tears whenever my computers die on me.

All my MP3s, my friends, have been by my side in hard times, though I lost my first 40 gig MP3 player, and my 60 and 80 gig i-pods died on me, I still use an 80 gig and a 4 gig once in a while whenever the battery life on my 32 touch dies. I gave one of my 80 gigs to a good friend of mine for his birthday, so that one is alive and well. but I buried my old CD players and MP3 players whenever they die. such sad times.

My oldest daughters, being my old consoles. still live and still perform, I like to play with them whenever I can.

all in all I dread the day whenever my girls die.

Not a NEET but it's terrifying. About 6 months ago my computer was broken for around 36 hours and it was really difficult. I didn't know what to do with myself. My PC crashes randomly time to time. Each time after the crashed it will refused to start unless I unplugged all my IDE/SATAs and reconnect them again.

I suspect her body or her nerves are giving me this problem so I finally decided to buy a new one.

Go to computer recycling drives and pick up everything that looks to be in working condition. A lot of things turned in there aren't really broken, just they they've been upgraded out of. You can also save all the parts you upgrade out of your main PC until you have enough to make a second PCGet the core system working, slap together a JBOD RAID with all the working HDDs you got from the drives, stuck it in your closet and turn it into a media server and torrent box.

Yes. Having no backups when it dies. Everything else is replaceable, but if your HDD dies and you have no backups, you're fucked. Cost of recovery in this case is usually twice the cost of the same HDD brand new (the first new one becomes the donor to revive your dead one and the second one has all the salvaged data copied to it), not to mention cost of the work itself and time wasted.
Dead PSU is next to that, as dying PSUs tend to take something else along with them when going to hell. Don't buy cheap ones or you'll end up replacing half of your PC.
Also, don't get rid of old computer parts. They're always useful in diagnosing or recovery, and you have plenty, you can assemble backup PC or seedbox/media center.
Have some bootable media (CD/DVD/flash drive) with recovery & testing programs (Hiren's Boot CD, for example - it has flash drive version too) - it may save you a ton of hassle.

My computer is getting a bit worn out, and he is a bit slower than the faster and younger ones out there, but I live him anyway. Hes made me happy for more than just a few years now, and I've even bought him a few nice things to help him keep up, but he is never nearly as smart or charming as the newest ones. But that doesn't matter. He may only be able to pull in 30 FPS on WoW at medium settings in a sparsely populated area, and it may take him forever to pull up larger videos... But I love him, and will continue to do so without considering replacing him.

Back when a 60gb 7200RPM hard drive was "Screaming and unfillable" (2001ish?), I bought one.
I used that very same hard drive until about 6 months ago, when it failed. It was my C drive and only had windows and a few games on it. All valuable data was on my second hard drive.

A long time ago, I was trying to save money on my electricity bill so I didn't turn on any lights in the house at all. It was pretty dark and I tripped on something and managed to fall on my PC. I have no idea what broke and I had to get it repaired which costed a lot and took two weeks, which I spent crying alone at night. ;_;

Well depends, I used to have a 80GB hardrive. I downloaded anime and then burned it on DVDs, I have like 350+ DVDs with anime on it. I'm never going to watch it. And I'm not going to give it to anyone. I was a waste of money.

Nowdays I just delete episodes that I've watched. Well not right away, but when it reaches like critical space on this one 400gb drive that I store all the random downloaded stuff on. Movies, Series, Anime, Hentai.

My computer died on me unexpectedly a couple of years ago. It was a whole month before I could borrow the cash to get a new one (PSU and MoBo died, replacing them involved replacing basically everything else too).

Now my Hayate trundles along fine, she is a little slow but I believe one day she will become amazing (when I can afford to upgrade her). Her HDDs are named Shamal, Signum, Vita and Zafira. Reinforce is my EeePC 701 that I never use and Smallboss is my 2GB flashdrive.

My computer's PSU blew up the other day, I found a new one for $80 so it wasn't a big deal and I was only without a computer for 3 days... But the worst part was that I couldn't find any of my PS2 games...

My cousin gave me a 500GB hard drive when I mentioned in passing I was running low on space.

Storing game ISOs and lossless music can kill your HDD space pretty fast.
Not to mention most stuff are 1080p nowadays and a 2hour movie is like 7-10gb.
