6445441 No.6445441 [Reply] [Original]

Shitty touhou player who started a thread about IN extra here. Malice cannon didnt work out so well so I switched to Sakuya/Remilia and barely 1CC'd it.

Finally got to extra stage, and I cannot take it easy in here. To make it even worse its not even Mokou. I hope this is just the mid boss.

>> No.6445459

just use boundary team.

>> No.6445466

Yeah, Keine is one of the only Ex midbosses that actually is kinda hard. Just wait until you get to Mokou, though.

>> No.6445496

>>6445459
I dont know what the teams are called I dont have the translation patch. I've tried all of them, and although Marisa/Alice is my favorite, I do not have Extra unlocked with them.

>>6445466
The stage is harder than Keine so far. Blowing through a lives and bombs like water at the start. Managed to get through two spellcards on one life on keine, but I'm sure it gets much harder in the last ones.

IN's extra stage portion is trivial compared to UFO or even PCB. And here: http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/English_patches

>>6445496
the stage is easy. try EoSD's extra sometime, that'll put hair on your balls.

>> No.6445507

IN's Extra is all fairly easy until Mokou's 3rd card or so.
I can survive until that one with the 4 streams of bullets and a giant rape laser which arcs through 2/3 of the screen.

First attack: Stay at the bottom at the very centre of the screen, wait for the read streams to start locking onto you and start streaming either left or right slowly that you avoid the slow rhombus bullets. When she calls back the attack, center yourself again but leave about one hitbox-length between your hitbox and the very middle, then follow as before.
Second attack will leave gaps for you to fit through. Stay about half-way up the screen and just slowly edge left or right.

>> No.6445518

>>6445496
Stage is piss.
Protiparrus: Stay central, hold shift and when they fags either side of you start blasting fast streams just tap up. When a second volley of fags come at you, go back to the bottom of the screen.
Big fags with the spirals of bullets are piss to dodge, and the fags that blash you with triangles and then spam you with a second layer can be streamed.

Malice cannon?

I've 1cc'd IN and every other touhou game but never heard of that.

It's something like Marisa B(roken)?

I've only reached up to the spellcard with all the bats on EoTSD with Reimu. Like I said in the OP, I'm not a very good player.

>> No.6445553

If you use Border team you pretty much don't have to dodge bullets until the midboss. Also Keine is the easiest extra midboss, you just have to learn how her spells work. Once you do that you can capture all her cards 100% of the time.

Use Reimu/Yukari. Their homing shots absolutely trivialize the stage until the waves of enemies that come across the top of the screen before the fairies before the final ultrafairy.

Seriously, it's the only reason I use them over solo-Youmu.

>>6445533
Marisa/Alice, tap shift to attack with both laser and Marisa bullets. It's exactly as powerful as solo Youmu at far range, and if you have the dexterity to keep the cannon firing at close range and still dodge shit coming at you with no focus, then you by no means actually need the maybe 15% damage boost it gives over Youmu. I'm not a fan.

>> No.6445591

>>6445576
I find the SDM team quite good on IN's extra stage, but that is if you're not dying too much, if you are then boundary team is probably the one to choose. IN's extra stage is really trivial in my opinion, at least compared to PCBs and EoSDs extra stage parts. Mokou can be a bit difficult, but you have loads of resources and deathbombing, which should not make it too hard.

USE SPELLCARD PRACTICE, ALOT!

shift for focus mode

>> No.6445601

>>6445496
reimu/yukari.

reimu's shot makes it SO easy to clear the stage, you pretty much just have to go up and down the screen.

As for Keine's spellcards, you just have to start in the middle and slowly creep to the side. watch replays to see how high you should be and how you should time it, the first and last one are like that, 2nd takes some practice but you get a feel for it fast enough.

as for mokou, only fujiyama volcano and her last spellcard are hard. she's the only one where I can beat the timing out spellcard. again, replays.

>> No.6445608

>>6445601
Guh, not even Nue? Nue's survival spellcard is easy stuff compared even to Possessed by Phoenix.
Well, that's mostly because I can never get the timing right on the blue spinny shots. But still.

when fighting Keine:

on her 1st spell card, keep at the bottom of the screen, just between the letters E-N (just over the enemy indicator), and on her 2nd spellcard, keep over the first E... now stand still until the red bullets come at you, then just drift slowly towards the right/left. Try to keep focused/unfocused mode the whole time while doing this, because the pattern will change according to that.

and, when dealing with her spellcard "returning blade something", you have to avoid the bullets and shoot her until she dies.

lol IN, so many safe spots... that's why EoSD is infinitely better.

I think he's more of just saying if you can't do those easily, then you don't have a ghost of a chance of beating some of the later cards. Not as a diss but more of just a warning.

People here realllly understate how hard Ex bosses are, don't feel bad for dying hundreds and hundreds of times before beating one. However as you get better it will come more naturally and you'll have less difficulties as you progress. The games are hard precisely because ZUN expects you to already be skilled at STGs. Once you get the skills, then you rake in the kills.
