So far I'm enjoying the KV, though it's enjoying me more than I'm enjoying it.

You start off with a 75mm gun that barely penetrates anything. So your first thought is to buy that awesome 122mm gun that has super awesome damage and a more decent penetration. However, when you finally finish your grindfest for hours and research/buy the gun, you find out that you CANNOT wear it without buying new suspension, because the tank is too heavy.

All that paired with the slow ass acceleration and turning speed which'll want to make you get the new engines ASAP. The KV is a great tank, but for it to reach greatness you need to invest waaay too much time on it. It's basically a huge tease they shove up your butt.

KV is a fun tank, one of the best if you want to make money.

Adding the 152mm gun and turning the tank into a KV-1 is fun as hell, but the reload speed is pathetic without adding equipment to the tank.

The best gun for it is the long one you use with that fucking turret that can't turn, the gun is overpowered for the battles you are put in with a KV. The best combination is the smaller cannon that does ~450 damage with the smaller, faster turret.

You will be grinding for months if you want the S-51

The KV-3 is invincible in most battles, but it's painfully slow and only good if the gun is upgraded.

The KV-IS is your best choice. You get put into low tier battles and all parts you buy for it can be added to your IS when you get one. So you are ready with a loaded IS when the time comes.

In Russian tanks that's entirely true, but in something like a Tiger you can completely ignore everything related to engines or treads if you want and still be at 80% efficiency.

But really, engine is the third you get on a KV. First being the suspension and 122mm howitzer. The engine upgrade is mainly for the reduction in chance to be set on fire I'd say. The KV is just a very slow tank and gets even slower when you put the KV-2 turret on, there is no avoiding that.

hmmm, tier 3 shouldn't be getting opponents that high unless you're in an SPG in which case it shouldn't matter. Tier 4 can be painful as you get up to tier 8s, if you're in a Pz3 (which is treated like the tier 4 scouts) you can get tier 10s. Then tier 5 is total bullshit because there's no bracket where you're in the middle, either you're at the top (rarely) or most of the time against tier 8s or tier 9s max. Looking at the chart someone posted the game treats tiers 6-8 practically the same so once you hit tier 6 opponents you're fucked since it throws 8s at you too.

Higher tier isn't more fun, anyway. I much preferred my upgraded T-34 over my T-44.

I'm basically going broad than deep in my tank selection, progressing the German tech tree (since I just practically cum buckets when it's both German and WWII). RIght now, I have the Wespe around 1/2 of the way tot he Grille, my dear, lovable Hetzer around a few thousand exp more to the StuG, a Luchs on its way to becoming a Leopard and I've recently acquisitioned a PzIII/IV for my way to the Panther. I also kept my PzIII so I can grind it to become a PzIV and I can progress onto the Heavy tank tree.

Shit feels awesome. Whenever I'm down because I never get to kill anything with my PzIII/IV, I play my Hetzer and get some free kills with the 10.5 StuH. WHenever I feel Lazy, I go for the Wespe and sit around the base, hiding and pummelling the enemy. Whenever I just need that adrenaline pumping again, I take the Luchs for a spin and make a mad (suicide) dash for the enemy base. That way, I almost always have a large stash of cash in stock, since everyone of those tanks ('cept for the PzIII/IV) are basically cash cows.

I was making a constant 20k normally and 30k on great battles with my Tiger non-premium, and with premium I'm making a constant 30k+ while a full repair is only 8k-10k and one great games worth of shells is only 4-5k.

If you haven't tried it since they removed the ghost tanks then that would explain it. The Tiger with the Long 8.8 is amazing now.

Guys, we need to start thinking about how we are going to play in the championship.

1: Have CS5 or GIMP (Or any program with DDS Support)
2: Textures are in C:\Games\World_of_Tanks_closed_Beta\res\vehicles
3: Find the Vehicle you want to edit
4: There are 4 files, Crashed, NM, SM and Vehicle, open SM and Vehicle.
5: SM controls transparency, and is half the size of the vehicle.
6: MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT EDIT THE ORIGINAL LAYER UNTIL YOU'RE FINISHED
7: Do whatever you want to the Vehicle skin, when you're happy with what it looks like, change the image size to half, and Copy+Paste your edits to the SM.
8: All edits should be painted fully black on SM, to remove the blinding amount of shiny (If you want it to be shiny, forget this step)
9: After you've edited SM, save and overwrite the original (WHICH YOU BACK UP BEFORE YOU DO THIS), and then revert your Vehicle edits to before the image size reduction.
10: Save and overwrite, restart WOT to apply.

First, locate the file you want to edit. It's in [game folder]/res/vehicles, then the german, russian or american folder. The tank files are in there.
There are some DDS files, open the one that DOESN'T say '_crash', '_NM' or '_SM' with an image editor that supports DDS.
Then, open the image you want to add to the texture you just opened. Try to remember how that texture looks like when in game, and where it appears.
Shrink and flip the image as you see fit, then merge that image's layer with the texture's. This is very important, or else that image will become the new texture and results will not be pleasant.
Rename the original to something else, but don't delete it. Save the texture you just edited with the name of the original.

Everything loads off of a lower texture resolution, so everything comes out blurry and looking like shit. Which then in turn makes it impossible for me to actually skin my shit as planned.

at the very start you can also burn a little bit of gold converting to credits so you can buy tier 2 asap instead of grinding credits on the loltraktor (you'll get xp for tier 2 faster than the credits). The more different tanks you play though, obviously the more credits you'll get compared to xp on any given tank.

Holy crap, I just killed another IS-4 with a Hetzer. But this time, it wasn't through some trickery like shooting him in the side from under a train car. This time, I killed him head-on, with full health, hit him about 10 times, getting me the Sniper award, lol. I was shielded by a stand of trees, and a hill, and had a clear shot at his turret, but I think he couldn't see me because of the cammo netting. His turret kept tracking back and forth looking for me, but he never got a shot off. I kept critting his gun with my10.5cm. Afterwards, I said "hetzers gonna hetz" in the chat, and all he had to say was "FUCK YOU."

I'll be buying the T2 premium tank to see just how fast it really is tonight. I'll also get a training room up and see where we are as far as a team.

I'm not much of a huge help with fighting, I try to balance my skill to each type of tank. So I'm pretty decent in each type, not spectacular in any.

I AM good when it comes to leadership and coordinating attacks. People usually stay quiet and follow any directions barked at them in the beginning of a match.

It's become a bit of an obsession. I've starting training rounds just to spend an hour or so scoping out every inch of a map. I've even found myself doodling maps and plans out on napkins at the bar. I also spend time comparing every aspect of each tank to each other, determining what one would would have the advantage.

It's more then likely the reason I have such little to show for all the hours I've logged.

This. Getting wailed on by arty is annoying, but its usually because you make yourself an easy target. Also, learn to hide against things like buildings, cliffs, etc. Arty has a hard time getting at people who do that.

Playing TDs is especially fun because usually you stay still in a bush to stack up your camouflage bonuses, but if you're spotted, you've got to go ahead and kill whoever spotted you, and find another bush before arty starts raining down.

The rules are simple, we pick a tank that's fast, heavy, or a good combination of both.

Two tanks are selected to battle, they line up on opposite ends of the "arena," preferably a big flat area in one of the maps. One other player will be a sort of referee.

Upon the ref's firing a shot, the tanks will charge each other at max speed, and bash into one another. Whoever survives the collision is the winner.

Draws will be decided by whoever has the most HP percentage left- firing your weapon at the other tank is a disqualification.

TDs are snipers, thus you shouldn't be following people until they run into enemies, especially in the fragile low-tier TDs. Either play defense and find someplace with a clear firing lane to snipe down and bushes to hide in, or follow teammates then stop someplace where you can back them up without being the first person targeted.

They DO have a great gun that you use from tier 6-9, 198mm pen 370ish damage. once you unlock it at tier 6 it's always available. (it's the only gun you can unlock from these tiers)

The turret armor is usually twice as thick as the hull armor.

The only really cool bit about the US heavies is the gun on the tier 10 tank...350mm pen and 700ish dmg

The T1 Heavy is just a medium posing as a heavy.

It does get better when you get the T29 though. Plus the US Top tier gun on the T30 can ones hot most tanks and nasty bit of hurt on an IS7 and Maus.

It's a fun and funny little tank, can penetrate the side armor of some heavy tanks and all the while can spend the whole game in campinovka trying to knock down a wooden fence. It's a pretty good comic relief tank while still being useful.


Worst part is I'm not kidding about that wooden fence. I spent 8 minutes trying to knock it down by ramming it till I said fuck it and shot it and by then we almost won. Ever since then I've always used HE shells to shoot any fence like objects that are blocking my path in my Hetzer.

For starters, I can't damage jack with it. Granted, I only use the starter cannon, but the specs of the two other cannons aren't encouraging. One looks decent, but the other has what? 5 shots a minute?

Combine that with getting oneshotted by, for all I know, Loltraktors...
If I get solid proof the StuG is worth the suffering, then some of my hate towards it will dissipate. Until then, NOPE

What's strange is I actually saw the stock gun as the most efficient gun as the other only seemed to have a .01 accuracy boost and about 10 penetration more. I've actually penetrated Tigers with it, you just have to note that you will never penetrate frontal armor of anything but low tier lights and mediums and think of that red/yellow/green targeting thing as god, which it is usually very useful either way.

The speed was pretty hilarious but that first game of ramming the wooden fence actually got me enough xp to unlock both engine upgrades and then it's decent speed, go for the tracks next and you are good.

The 10.5 was it? if it's anything like the KV's 152mm howitzer or 122mm howitzer it would be a pretty fun gun, but ultimately a side grade I'd say.

The health is a problem though.

Since I'm a heavy tank driver though I don't know about the Stug, and I could have a lot more tolerance for the Hetzer because of how good the Tiger is at sniping I just kinda play it like I'm in a mini-tiger.

You are missing out. The Hetzer is very effective. The past few days, I've killed about 1 heavy per match, using the 10.5cm gun mostly. Even IS-4s get hurt bad by it. They lose about 10 percent of their HUGE total HP every time you hit them - that's a lot of damage. For Tigers, aim at the Turret. For King Tigers, same thing.

The L48 gun is also good, but don't expect to be killing the top heavies unless they show you their side or rear. Even then it will take several hits. Probably a lot of hits.

The Hetzer is actually quite effective. Personally, I believe that if you can't handle the Hetzer, you don't have the mentality to play the TDs well - the Hetzer is the trial by fire training vehicle that forces you to learn how light/medium tank destroyers have to fight to survive... the hard way.

They're low tier Panzer FlaK guns. Basically, a spray and pray gun. Low damage, high spread, but fast reload time and burst. Surprisingly effective in low tier matches. You'd want it if you're moving up the German tank tree.

The fact that it's (probably?) the only non TD/Arty that doesn't have a turret, in addition to it being slow as fuck, and having a high profile make it an slow, tall, retarded target for any enterprising TD, Arty, or any tank in an equal or higher tier than it. It's almost the same as the Hetzer, wherein your only real hope is to get into real low tier matches and be a big boss, or try to chip off the paint off some slow, high tier heavy for some exp, since it's cannot can actually cause slight irritation on some heavies.
