It's a fighting game, so the "brutal raping" is to be expected. You kinda have to be slightly masochistic to enjoy/get through the constant losing that happens before you get good enough to win (You'll still lose more than you win until like half a year to year of experience.)

Man Eli, GGs, that was pretty refreshing!

It's nice to see you have a lot of melee mix up now. You aren't nearly as bullet heavy as before, and sometimes it felt like my pages were just being flipped. I'll be back in a bit, bit it's one of those afk thingies now.

I was fucking dying to see that Tenshi too, looks like you have her pretty well worked out, but my Komachi just wouldn't let you finish any of those combos~ :3

In any fighter period, you are going to lose badly in your first half a year.

A lot.

There will also generally be people you'll never be able to beat, if they're the top of the top tier at the game. Learn to accept that too. Just try to keep get better, and know where your faults are. And maybe eventually in years to come, you can become the best of the best, but it's unlikely.

you probably did figure me out a bit there, but i also tire out pretty fast against aggressive players that never give me any breathing room. around the 20th time i tried to jump out of your string even though i knew you'd do a 3a/6a instead of bullets to catch my jump out was a pretty good sign for me to exit out.

and i don't have a main anymore, honestly. i can't remember the last time i sat down and played a character for more than 2-3 matches, although i'm definitely better with some chars than others.

If you're talking about the game itself, I'll upload a recent build for you promptly if you want. Although please understand this is very early stuff.

If you're talking about the source code, I'm not going to do that until I rewrite a lot of stuff. It's full of sloppy shit that was done to save time and effort, and would be quite embarrassing if I released it in its current state.

>> No.6678565

>>6678458
Is there a video of this in action on YouTube?
I swear I saw a video that looked similar to this at one point, although it appeared to be very early. It looks even more projectile-centered than Soku, which both intrigues and worries me in terms of game balance.
Soku only works well because the grazing balances out the projectiles.

>> No.6678588

>>6678565
I only have a video of something from about a month ago. Probably the same video you saw. It would probably be best if I uploaded the current version for you guys to try.

I've tried to balance out the projectile-centric nature in a few ways:
- The projectile hitbox is separate from the melee hitbox, and is only 15x15 (5x5 during spellcards so I could put even more shit out there)
- A full flying mode, complete with focus
- Non-spell bullets have health. The bigger one will always do more damage to the other bullet for now.
- There still will be some projectile invincible moves
- If a bullet passes through your normal hitbox but not your projectile hitbox, you receive flymeter/spellmeter bonuses.

Who knows if it will balance out in the end, I'll probably have to add a few more things to make this type of system work properly. I don't know if anyone has tried to make a fighter this projectile-dense before. I'm worried that it won't work out, but hopefully I'll figure out a way to make it all work in the end.

How about a link to the game?

A few notes:
- Reimu, Marisa, Cirno, Flandre are pretty much finished. Chen is almost done (just a couple of supers to go), and Minoriko has only been started, so everything with her is placeholder.
- Windows might ask you to open up port 10800, because I've already started on netcode, although it's too broken and unsynced to release to the public. I need to do more research on it. If you're paranoid, just don't open the port for this program, I don't care.
- If you see any game-breaking bugs or crashes, please report them and I'll see what I can do.
- You can easily play around with characters and their projectiles by editing text/script files in the different folders. If you want to make something cool, I'm not stopping you.
- The music folder accepts any number of ogg/mp3 files you want to put in there.
- Any non-12.3 sprites were gathered from various websites (usually mugen fan-creations), I'm not an artist, and I'm coding this alone.

Thanks. The amount of CPU used might be unavoidable with my current knowledge, as I said this is my first big project. I don't know any neat optimization techniques yet. I'm probably doing a lot of things wrong that I shouldn't be, that I don't know about yet because I don't have the experience.

As for the controls, what was difficult/awkward about them? I thought I made them pretty straight-forward. I really would like to know, so I could try to fix that.

Some characters on the hisouten wiki have sections for spellcard combos, and a lot of combos that end in command specials can have a spell card substituted in their place. Use practice mode with block after first hit to figure out what actually connects with what or to try things out.

This, by the way, coming from an Okuu player who can only land Creeping Sun after 66C, Giga Flare after 3A, and throws out Subterranean Sun after knockdown. But it can't be helped.

If it's situational, that means you have to force the situation. There's no shame in blatantly keeping your 5-card in your top slot for 45 seconds if your opponent eventually does something that lets you do it; it's their fault. It's up to you to pick spellcards that fit situations you often find yourself in, though.

Sakuya's 66B into spellcard combo is about the easiest you can get hitconfirm-wise. The move itself has some good range to surprise even good players once in a while but it doesn't graze, is airblockable and leaves you at a disadvantage even on hit. 4card slashy combos from almost everything so you can put in four of them in your deck anyway. Fantasy Seal is better when used naked. Get your opponent down 1 orb, and they either try to graze through it and get hit, or block and lose an orb plus take a decent amount of damage. Really good round closer, you've just gotta watch out for stuff like your opponent having a reversal. With Sanae 66C, it's air unblockable so if your opponent has a tendency to chickenblock low in the air, you can bait that then 66C, or you can run 623 alt windtunnel, where you then 66C once the opponent is stuck in the air blocking the windtunnel.

Yup, Reimu's 66b is just bad. It grazes alright but it hits low and therefore has to be done early or the opponent can just HJC away.
Fanstasy seal sucks in combos, there are much better options. It does 100% limit itself and does low damage point blank. It eats spirit when its grazed and drains 5 complete orbs on block so think of it like a royal flare like move.
Her 2 and 4card balls are better to get some damage in. They combo off 5b, 2b and 66a and those shouldn't be too hard to hit though not as easy to hitconfirm.

As far as Aya is concerned, look long and hard at all her alts, especially 214. Her spellcards only add about 1,000 damage from confirm and most aren't suitable for punishing/pressure, so don't be afraid to use a spellcard-light deck and weather affecting/system cards instead. Typhoon obiterates Aya, so it can be good to keep a counter in mind. That said, don't underestimate her 5card runpast or 4card crows. The runpast is literally her only move that combos off of 2A and the crows can be used in the air to catch people off guard, combos off of 6C (very tight timing), and can be a good way to deal with Typhoon.

Get them below 3 or so orbs, do Seal. Don't care where they are or what they were doing, just do it. The only thing Flare has on Seal is that Flare will still do a lot of damage if only 1/4th of the spell hits, while Seal's damage is kind of crummy if most of it is grazed. In return though, Reimu can followup most of the time, and she is most certainly not vulnerable. 1 card is okay, but doesn't even do a full orb of damage and leaves enough of an open to high jump away. It's better for making risky moves safe. 2 and 3 tornados aren't tight so are are easily grazed on reaction and have insane lag, therefore punishable as fuck. Even if someone does get caught blocking them, they're easily BEed anyway. 3 card dash can't punish non-tight strings at all. It has the same startup lag as default 214 just with a giant flash too. Maybe giant wide open things only. It's is also easily blocked on reaction and then insanely punishable.

>1 card is okay, but doesn't even do a full orb of damage and leaves enough of an open to high jump away.

What? The entire bloody point of that card is to use it in order to extend your pressure? During pressure you got them to wrongblock for 3 orbs worth of spirit but are starting to get too loose? 1card, force them to keep blocking and eat that spirit damage, while starting your mix-ups anew. They can't highjump away right after the activation.

You can't BE moves like 2card and 3card tornado.

>> No.6695250

Alt. 22b into 1card is tight and gives LOTS of frame advantage so you can always drain 1(from the quake part of 22) + 0,5(from the 1card itself) + 2( from 6c 236b) and if the 22b is wronglocked, add another orb.

The 2card is tight off a blocked 236b. The combination of those two alone is almost 3 orbs. And you can follow it up with a dash attack and continue pressure.
The 3card tornado only works right if it's fired after a almost-corner 236b. Then you get to charge whatever you want and crush. You can't BE until the spellcard bg wears off, by the way.

The 3card dash grazes from first frame. And if the opponent just started anything grazeable, he's fucked. It will hit before the delay ends and you cannot HJC and block in time either.

I was thinking of the cards in terms of maintaining/adding to pressure, IE BEing on the last hit, not as the final hits in a crush string. You may as well use the system card if the goal is just ~500 damage and one crushed orb.
As for tightness, I'm not sure I've ever seen a decent player eat that stuff. She just lacks the options to be able to sustain pressure without putting herself at huge risk for little reward and I have never seen any good player use her like a pressure character. Her strengths are elsewhere, not in her ability to crush.

Orange tower and blue orb both combo from 2a 5b midscreen but you need to be somewhat close for the 2a to combo into 5b and right next to them to combo into the tower.
3a, 2a 3a, 6a 2c, 2a 6a 2c, 623c, 66a 623c, etc. all combo into the 1 card orbs in the corner. It's good for getting some extra damage when you catch someone trying to jump out.

Massive nerf to cancellable moves.

>> No.6695421

>>6695415
All I'm seeing is that default 236 doesn't travel very far on the ground at level 1 if done from the air. Elaborate.

>> No.6695432

>>6695415
Sure, some of the properties were changed, but not the cancellation points or anything. All Aya needs for pressure is default 236, and that works pretty much the same way it used to in the corner. Hell, not even that. All she needed was 2A/66A and 6A/3A, which are the same, property-wise. Aya's movement and general pressure seem mostly the same the me, you just take less damage when she guesses right.

>> No.6695446

I remember when Aya used to be good, and faced someone who could force me onto defense and promptly guard crush with her. Those were some really fun games. Nowadays it's rare to play guard crushers around here and it's become all fishing for moves to punish.

Maybe he meant early Soku since that's when Aya lost almost all of her cancelling properties. That said, I learned the hard way through a lot of frustrating trying that much of the info on the English SWR wiki for Aya is out of date.

I remember when Aya's 66A had massive + on block and everytime you block it, she could start her mixup. If you tried to chickenblock it or mash out or graze, you'd eat at least 3200 damage.
I also remember her f.5A being much faster before.

Can someone host 10.5 on port 6112?
I'm downloading 12.3 at this very second and I can for reasons which would need too long to explain not forward my router to accept 10800. (I'd know how to, I'm just limited here)
Thanks

You don't need an open port to join games. And I don't think anyone still plays 10.5 here.

My router is actively seeking to block in- and outgoing connections from ports other than 80, 6112-6117.
Guess I'll have to wait for the download to finish then.

I'll set up the controlls and train a bit, if someone wants to brutally rape me in the face then please host under one of the ports I listed above

you need to make the path at the top of the ini file refer to the 10.5 folder instead of the 12.3 folder

Perhaps you should learn how this board works before posting. Please only stick to the hosts and IPs on this threads instead of posting anything else. You will learn with time. Also, turn off your /v/ habits and logic in here, learn to draw a line and everything should be fine.

it was ok, you owned me though, patchy was my best character and i'm still contemplating on wether it's worth my time to train using her limited melee attacks, your youmu was especially good,
then again, this is like the 3rd day i'm playing or something and i didn't really expect to win against anyone even remotely good, though i was kind of dissapointed you even beat me so easily with aya since i've been playing patchy/aya alot with a friend lately
