Depends on the touhou.

For instance serious Mokou and serious Yuka are pretty awesome. While Reisen can be nothing more than a useless moeblob rabbit who's only use is sex appeal in my opinion.

Like how in canon, when dialogue is silly all the time but the context can be pretty serious -- Last Bosses, for instance, are more or less always lethal fights, but the heroine jokes about like its no big deal.

Danmaku is never lethal, nor is any boss fight in the series leading to inevitable doom, except Utsuho. ZUN said in one of PCB's songs' descriptions that both girls that are fighting will always be relaxed during the battle, no matter what the dialogue beforehand is like.

That's more on the epic side of things, I'm guessing this more of a choice between goofy 4komas and sk-ii-ish doujins since Touhou is always kind of a joke on itself.
