Other thread 404'd out of the blue, so here's another one.

Haven't read any VNs since I've been in Japan for the last two weeks, but I did finish up Higurashi no Naku Koro ni before I left. Really great read, and I definitely enjoyed it a lot more than Umineko. Think I'll pick up G Senjou when I get back home in a few days, and then maybe Remember 11 or something.

I just finished marathoning Himawari and Aqua After.

It was quite a journey, I really liked it.
It wasn't as focused on the sci-fi aspect as I thought it would be but the development of the characters was really excellent.
If I have a complain it's that Aries feels a bit gimped even though she seems like the main heroine at first glance, she doesn't even have a good ending.

Does the PSP version add anything of relevance?

You could, but it would draw closer and closer to the "Apples and Oranges" argument the further one would stretch it.

And sure thing, one can of course compare flaws and strengths of certain works, and re-evaluate ones opinions on said works and matters because of it.
But in the end, when taken "too far", it just simply doesn't mesh well if the works aren't doing the "same thing" if you get my point.

You can certainly prefer an apple over an orange, but would you really be able to argue that one is objectively superior or inferior to the other?

And sure, this is just the basic idea, I am not saying it applies 100% in this case, but yeah.

Having only vague memories of Higurashi's anime, the borderline autistic fanbase for it in /a/ made me like it all the less. I went into Umineko thinking it'd be more of the same rubbish, but I actually grew to love it. I begrudgingly read Higurashi's visual novels over the space of a year, and I gained a new appreciation for the series. I don't love it as much as Umineko, but I can see why someone would prefer it. Its structure is more careful, as opposed to Umineko's convoluted mess. And Ryukishi obviously had a clearer idea about where he was going, resulting in a satisfying (if too happy) ending.

It's not as 'fun' as Umineko is, but people have different ideas of fun. I thought the twisted logic battles that Battler and Beato had were a blast, and found my skin crawling having to read through Mion's punishment games and the club plotting in Angel Mort. You might think differently, and that's cool with me.

Can't we all agree that both series have their bad, and good points?

Finally playing the original Killer Queen after putting it to side for so long and always hearing that it's better than Secret Game. the original one had only two scenarios right? So far the first scenario isn't that different from SG in quality, but I guess the praise comes from the second scenario where I hear that Yuki is quite different from her SG self?

Just personal preferences/guilty pleasures: Damatte watashi no muko ni nare looks as run of the mill as they get, but I like the heroines and that's enough to make me want to play a game.
Gokudo no Hanayome is pretty average, the action power-up clichè and bullet-cutting KATANAH are laughable, but I'm a sucker for criminal underground settings (main heroines are a kansaiben-speaking yamato nadeshiko and an italian Balalaika-lookalike mafiosa) so I'll probably play through it.

>>6790170
As for whats coming soon.
In march there is both SG CODE:Revise and Aiyoku no Eustia, which both had great promise. Both of them have pretty great production values in them and full voice acting (yes protag included). Eustia has great setting, characters and character interactions and very fitting BGMs and mood, overally it had really fantastic trial. As for SG C:R the trial was pretty nice, and then how the trial ended in a twist that pretty much quaranteed for awesomeness. Oh yeah, both mentioned also have some great protagonists that actually have brains in them, which is a big plus for me. I wonder how do I manage to read them at sametime as both are must reads for me after the trials.

In April there is Kamidori from Eushully if you like gameplay, it has some great art and dat mud. Other good releases altough I don't really look foward to them that much are Daiteitoku from Alicesoft and Rewrite for Key fans with added touch from Romeo and Ruykishi.

- A lot of technobabble that you will have to to believe instead of real science.

I wouldn't say that Baldr Sky is that hard to understand. It does pretty clearly explain most of the major plotpoints, but yeah there is lot of subleness in the story and few plot points where you do have to rack your brain a little to understand. But it isn't that hard to understand the overall picture in the end. And I like how it leaves few plotpoints up to you how you interpret them.

Okay, let's say I want to get into the Ikusa Megami series.
Is there any recommended play order without having to read anything ultra old and still be enjoyable?

Start with Zero, if you want to see the background of a part of the cast of Verita play Genrin no Kishougun 2 (has a summary of Kishougun 1 in-game, also it's fire emblem-ish and not RPG), then Verita.
you can still play Verita without Kishogun just fine, but it's nice to see where the characters come from. Just try it and drop it if you see it's not your thing.

Chronical order of the BG-storyline is:
IM Zero > Genrin1 > Genrin2 > IM Verita > IM1 > IM2
It's good order to play (if you want to play them all). you can skip genrin1 or if you want to read it just read the summary in genrin2, it should be enough. You can play Verita without playing genrin2 too, but you miss some stuff with all the backgrounds. IM1 is just avarage and old as hell altough IM2 is pretty good I hear and still playable. But there are some rumors floating around of remake of IM1&2. By the time kamidori comes out or bit after it there probably will be more info on that.
And kamidori happens bit after Verita I think, but it won't be tied in any deep way to BG-storyline tough I think. I might see mentions of Veritas Events there and some cameos.

Thanks for your posts.
I had seen this kind of posts a few times but I can never remember to save them.
I think I'll start with zero as you suggested and probably skip the first genrin, the second is from 2004 and it isn't THAT old and since it has some summaries better for me.
And luckily I've found an /h code for zero just in case.
Thanks again for your fast answers.

Finished Vjedogonia. Didn't expect much but it was actually pretty nice, if only for Leanhaum's ending. Mora's route was fine too but I didn't like Kaori and Misako, especially Misako.

And if there are people here that are interested in the VN but are put off by the gameplay, just patch the game. It adds an option to skip all battles once you cleared one route. Just bear with it for one route or download a save if you really don't want any of it.

Anyone can tell me what exatly does every stat?
Some of them are a bit vague when I try to use them, or maybe some kind of wikia.

Attack power: tells the attack power of one attack
Attack rounds: how many "strikes" one attack action is
Defense power: tells how high your defense is in one defense
Defense rounds: tells how many times you defend against one enemy attack action
Magic attack
Magic Defense

so if your attack is 50 and att round 3: you deal 50x3 damage. if your defense is 25 rounds 2, you can defend agains 2 attacks with strenght of 25.
If that makes any sense.
examples
50 x3 att against defense of 25 x2 would deal 25+25+50 = 100 damage (because you dont have as meny def rounds as att round during attack you wont be able to defend against one attack at all)
again
again att of 100 x2 against def of 10 x4 would deal 90 + 90 = 190 damage (altough you have more of deff rounds than enemy has att rounds during attack, these addititional rounds dont get added to defense)

The stats you up just effect how much your actual stats rise and it shows how much they rise with+

The last two seems to be better vthan the rest since they spread more points, is there any reason?
Thanks for your answer by the way, I've just started but zero is pretty fun.

they spread the stats, but others rise some specific stat faster. theres also limit how much one stat can be risen. also rise the stat that increases hp well, you'll avoid certain small problem at the end game then.

But yeah enjoy the IM series, Zeros plot doesn't really start properly until you meet Haisherra at chapter2, after that it starts to spiral to greatness. Also if you don't know anything of the series enjoy your chapter3.
