Okay, I'll choose an example that shouldn't be controversial and lead to countless bitching about nothing:

>The magician that appears before people during festivals and displays her street performances with dolls would be Alice Margatroid. [Akyuu, PMiSS]

>I don't put out performances for the public [Alice, SaBND]

Which one is true? You can assume Alice knows better what she does than Akyuu, who's known to make shit up. But then again, she wouldn't make up something this easily verifiable to the potential reader, and Alice may just be playing a hermit (bigger than she is) to fool the fairies because she finds them suspicious. Until we ever actually see Alice performing for people somewhere in the manga, both interpretations are equally plausible.

Touhou lore is full of things like this and the only correct choice is to assume any interpretation can be correct. Now, any preference of one over another is, to quote "speculah of random anons". It's perfectly fine, for fanwork use for example, until you claim it's the one and only true interpretation - which a lot of people here seem to be particularly fond of.

>> No.7251888

It says something like, ''A vampire from the outside and recruited a great bunch of subordinates, Reimu whooped its ass and made a contract establishing rules of conduct, youkai didn't like this so she agreed to change them into what would LATER become the spellcard rules, this event would later be known as the Scarlet Mist incident and it would be the first time that the spellcard rules were used''.

See it? I could understand if the last part had something along the lines of ''later on when the scarlet mist incident happened...''. But since they are confirmed to be the same event, it makes a paradox that the spellcard rules weren't there when Reimu beat Remilia (or the vampire leader if it's true that there's a mistake) and that the draft was a result of the battle, yet afterwards it claims that it was there when it was first used.

>> No.7251909

That's odd, it says ''vampires'' when only Remilia was the one who did it, and it says ''disperse the rebellion'' which I'm not sure if what Remilia did was group people to rebel against something. Then it says that contract thing which never did I see in the games, not even mentioned.

Is it really the SDM incident?

I'm pretty sure that there was an initial vampire attack before Remilla's mist. So it's two different incidents. Wasn't there a timeline on the wiki somewhere showing this. The SDM was brought over by some other vampires and spellcard rules were made after beating them. Remilla came later.

>It's said that the Scarlet Mist incident caused by the vampires that had stirred up such a fuss was the first time the spell card rule was put to use.

This is what I meant, it's either a mistake on the term ''such a'' which connects the SDM incident to the former Vampire incident since it's written on the same page on the exact same ''paragraph'' as the former one or it's actually true and it may cause confusion as a paradox.

Either way, it's confusingly written and someone needs to clear it up. I do think they're separate incidents and that it's a mess-up.

That's what I thought as well, a previous argument I had with an anon yesterday made me realize that the page could be confusing and read differently, and is what I wanted to clear out.

It can be read as ''Reimu beat up a vampire rebellion, set up a set of rules of conduct, then evolved to the spellcard draft, the SDM incident was the first time this was used''. Or as ''Vampire comes from outside (Remilia from the outside after all) and makes a rebellion, Reimu beats it up and sets rules of conduct which later evolved into the spellcard draft, this incident was named the Scarlet Mist and it was the first time the draft was used''. See it? If mis-read it could conclude that there's a paradox. It doesn't specify clearly in the last part of the ''sectioned paragraph''.

Here's an example, there's no reason for Akyuu to lie or very few chances that she's wrong about ''Alice being a magician'' while there is more reason for Alice to lie about it, personal reasons that is.

Youkai article states they eat people (hide your women, children and livestock!). Monologue says they don't.

This has serious consequences, for Rumia for example. By reading her article literally, you'd assume she's a maneater. Both Monologue and BAiJR ("attacking people, what a bother") suggest the contrary. The only logical solution: don't read it literally. Akyuu made up crap to make her chronicle more interesting.

Also, yes, there is a reason for Akyuu to lie.

The line:

In PMiSS, this article:

http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Perfect_Memento:_Encyclopedia:_Vampire

comes before Reimu's. In the vampire article, it talks briefly about the vampire incident being put down by a powerful youkai.

In Reimu's article, when it talks about the vampire incident, it refers back to the same incident. Refer to >>7252166. The only vampire Reimu fought was Remilia. Reimu had nothing to do with the first vampire incident.

There are only two vampire-related incidents that we know about. First one was a rebellion put down by a powerful youkai. The second was the Scarlet Mist that Reimu put an end to using the spell card rules.

Like I said before, I believe the main problem was the translation in Reimu's article which makes it sounds like she put the vampire rebellion when she didn't.

Rumia's PMiSS article explicitely states she eats people. In the present tense.
BAiJR includes interviews, which are literal quotes from the youkai. In the interview, Rumia outright states she doesn't want to attack people (using roughly the words I put in apostrophes).

It didn't say they went into conflict with Reimu. They went into discussions. Remember that the vampire had gathered a lot of subordinates. Not all of them would be vampires, so they were mostly various youkai. When the vampire was bind to a contract, the youkai found that contract unpleasant and went to the Hakurei miko to discuss the situation.

I'm sure that powerful youkai would have stomped them if they tried anything against said youkai.

I know about the whole trash-talking, but youkai still eat people, even if it's rare, so it doesn't interfere with PMiSS' depiction of Rumia. BAiJR's is an interview of opinions, PMiSS is a list of seen facts. Note the difference?

Okay, I know I'm now being a hypocrite, but you seriously must be trolling me.

BAiJR (the interview parts) contains a transcription of what the youkai said, to the letter. It is to be taken literally. (Which, of course, does not mean they did not say lies, and it's quite obvious in some cases (Mokou, Marisa), but the fact that they said what they said is solid and indisputable.)

PMiSS is... well, "a little different from reality", as confirmed in several different places throughout the canon. It is NOT to be taken literally (or rather, it is to be taken as a literal contents of Gensokyo Chronicle, which are written by self-admitted unreliable narrator Akyuu).

You got things completely backwards, and it seems you did not even read BAiJR at all.
