I've been having some issues of Genius of Sappheiros v2.06 (english version) lately. A certain cutscene (the one where Utsuho and Rin first appear) consistently causes the game to crash. I know that this is a common problem with the english patch, but I have to know how to fix it so I can progress with the game...

It's a common problem. Try different compatibility modes, that may or may not stop the crashing. If it doesn't, get the Japanese version and upgrade to 2.08 which doesn't have the crashing problems. But that version doesn't have an English patch.

2.08 actually does have an English version now.
2.08 shouldn't crash and should run much better than before.

When you get the 2.07 and 2.08 patches from the game's site you'll need to run a save converter that will be in your saves folder in order to keep playing. You can only patch from the original Japanese version so always keep a backup of those.

What about save converter? Get it from their official site?
So I just dump my backup game.pak/img.pak to change it back to japanese, run the save converter?
Then install the 2.08 patch and put in the translated *.pak?

Use the backup img.pak and game.pak to make the game Japanese again. Update to 2.07, then 2.08 from the official site. After the updates there will be a .exe in your save folder, run that to convert your saves. Then backup your game.pak and img.pak again and overwrite with the new english ones.
