What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

I was using my Macbook Pro and realise that the trackpad wasn't clicking properly. On one side it was clunky, and the other a bit more "twangy" or whatever you want to call it.

Seeing as I had paid an exorbitant amount of money for the thing in the first place, I figured it warranted being sent down to Apple to fix. Anyway, after the person there saying it didn't look right, he took it in to fix it.

Two days later and my 'fixed' Macbook pro is seemingly pretty fucked up. Some of my programs are no longer working (why.jpg), and the trackpad is worse than before. It's not level and on one side it keeps getting stuck when I click. Not to mention they gave the computer back looking pretty dirty.

What do? The computer guy claimed the trackpad would level out if I click on the other side enough, but my feeling is that is bullshit and he should've fixed it properly to begin with.

Threads on /jp/ about the UBW installer came and went, and with them months passed. But now the day was finally here; the installer was complete and would be released in a matter of minutes. As my download was running I kept thinking about how it'll turn up to be a simple, trivial piece of software and I would be joining the shitstorms flaming Message on /jp/ soon enough. But I had no idea then...the download finished, the installer ran. But instead of what I expected, the screen went black for a moment, with the text "Thank you for downloading our program; UBW installation will soon be underway." flashing on it. Then the application closed and refused to do anything on further executions. I figured this was an elaborate prank, and as I thought, nobody on /jp/ was the wiser.

This way, a few hour passed, with no response on Mirror Moon's part. And when I was about to give up and watch some random anime, I heard a knock on my door. Strange, I had no friends nor family and I didn't see who could be here at that hour; nonetheless I opened the door albeit cautiously. What stood there defied logic. A face and body that were all so familiar from manga and anime, yet should not exist in real life. But she was no doll, no costume. Everything from her eyes to her skin were visibly real, soft human tissue. I was speechless. My mind refused to work. I stood there, stunned for what seemed to be an eternity. She was the one to break silence. "Sorry for making you wait, I'm the UBW installer. Mind if I come in now?"

Dear reader,

There has been an overwhelming amount of FUD surrounding this project. Unfortunately, because of how the internet works, it has spread farther and deeper than attempts to counter it. I have since given up on that, but decided to write this appeal to give a better idea of why things turned out this way.

Like everyone else who reads translated visual novels, at first I had absolutely no understanding of Japanese, but through repeated exposure, gradually gained fragments of knowledge. I had always wondered "how much was left out in the translation?" but it had never taken much thought until I discovered tools like Translation Aggregator/JParser/MeCab which provided powerful dictionary lookup and nearly instant access to an entire array of varyingly accurate translation. I could finally see what I was missing (and what was not in the original text). After reading a lot of various other material besides visual novels, the understanding I could gain was increased much faster than I thought. Leaving the exact words to the dictionary at first, parsing the grammar became straightforward; gradually memorizing more vocabulary, soon I was able to read entire sentences.

I have no idea what to do
I don't know what to google as i can't narrow this down specifically enough to find anyone else with the same problem.
My monitors keep blacking out during certain things. when it is at its worst i can trigger it, for example viewing a video in firefox would cause it earlier, and playing league of legends causes it. but sometimes it happens for no apparnet reason.

When it does it, all three monitors will go black, and for brief seconds will show things again, then go black again, and will repeat until i can close or alt+tab out of whatever is causing it. I can't control anything during the black moments (alt+f4, ctrl+shift+esc) don't work, although i still will hear sound going as normal.
This only happens if i have all my monitors enabled, with just one i dont get the problem.
This has happened only since i recently reformatted my computer. I did all the windows updates, updated my graphics card drivers completely and it still did it. I even tried reformatting again, it still does it.

It's no different from what you experienced on a daily basis, except it'll be real this time.'

Not long after that, I noticed the FH translation project. I took a few quick glances at the script and that's when the idea occurred to me.

Could I do this?

At first, I only waited and helped inspire interest in the project, intending to fix any translation that was missing words. However, at the lack of translators and slow progress, I decided to go ahead. It was much easier than I thought it would be, and although many false accusations came up, I ignored and disclaimed them. My style of translation is to follow the original as closely as I can; while that may cause a result that doesn't look like it was written originally in English, that was not my goal.

Once it was finished I went through the scripts again for editing. While many have said that it still looks unedited, there was a reason. Several others I had asked to edit wanted to change too much, to the extent mentioned above. My choice was to only try to fix obvious spelling errors, and leave the rest unchanged. Why? To show that this project, my first visual novel translation, is undoubtedly not perfect, to show the flaws that are normal for such. I want to tear down the arrogant "barrier to entry" and classism that surrounds visual novel translation. I want to preserve this imperfection as a first step, a milestone to serve as a reminder to everyone and inspiration to others who are also just starting (and we need more of you!) - there is no need to be ashamed or afraid. Anyone with enough time and determination can do it. This has been an enormously enjoyable learning experience for me, and if even one person who would've otherwise been entirely unable to read Flyable Heart can now do so and understand it to the extent that I could, then I'm happy.

OP I completely understand how you feel. I used to be a weak scrawny thing myself, so I can relate to the problems you are currently facing. Whenever I stepped outside of the house, I was constantly terrified I was going to be stabbed, or assaulted. Even something as little as peoples gaze would make me wilt.

Liking Okuu isn't that different from liking Cirno or Flandre. They all have gimmicky powers, and cliché and shallow personalities. The only real difference is that Subterranean Animism came out in 2008 while Embodiment of Scarlet Devil came out in 2002, making the former less of a target for new and inexperienced fans.

And this is while characters from Undefined Fantastic Object and Ten Desires are hated or shunned, simply because they're "too hard to understand". While in reality it's just that their powers are original and their backstories elaborate. The casts of the two later games are more popular in Japan than here, perhaps because a native japanese person has an advantage when it comes to knowing of and understanding the original historical events the characters are tied to. To like Okuu all you need to understand is that she's "a badass idiot who controls nuclear fusion".

While I like the setting and general story-line of Subterranean Animism, I'd like to point out, that not only including and post Mountain of Faith but perhaps in all of Windows era Touhou, Okuu is the least developed, least interesting and least intimidating villain. Not to mention her motive is the least elaborate and engaging of all.

Despite how moving much of KS was to me, I still found much of the writing to be of average quality, and the game filled with tired cliches, and predictable twists. Don't get me wrong, I quite enjoyed it, and I've shared a few feel stories as a result, but the idea of having a derivative work created in imitation of something unexceptional seems like a bad idea to me. The only problem was that it was too long.

Most of the bit at Shizune's house could have been cut. All we needed from that segment was to learn about Shizune's relationship with Jigoro. Shortening that section of the story, and pruning some of the irrelevant scenes from all over the story would have let it get to the real meat of the story, Misha's confession, a lot sooner and not get so much flak for being boring.

In time, Alice got used to this new device Nitori called a "Computer", and eventually all the commands and whatnot would just come naturally as if she had been doing this forever. In that time, many other people took liking to this invention, including many people from the human village.

One day, Alice came across a website with lots of texts and images. When she asked Nitori about this, she said it was a Message Board, a place where people would post messages accompanied with images about various subjects. She noticed that one subject was very popular, a game called Uohout, created by a man called NUZ. She later learned that this was what they called a curtain fire shooter, and that it was really popular in the human village. Alice decided to try these out for herself, as many people exclaimed how fun they were.

The first time she decided play, Alice was quite confused. First of all, she couldn't decide which character to chose. There were many, after all. Anon, John, Steve and Ryan were the main ones, with many side characters as well.

As interesting it was, I found a giant flaw in the entire experience.
You are dealing essentially with five different alternate universes.
You have 5 diffeent Hisaos, but surprisingly, all girls appear to be the same.

While engrosed in reading, I could not relate to Hisao in all 5 instances. Sure, I saw what he went though and understood it, but when looking upon the character traits and the differences between them, I saw the reason why.

Any one guy would find it impossible to be attracted to all of the girls at once in the same way, otherwise it would not work. And to make it work, each route/story had to have a slightly different Hisao.

That being said, I assume that everyone has their preferred character and by that assumption, their version of Hisao.
but even there , there are some reservations about certain behaviours or lines.

Kenji also seems to be bit unstable or different with each route, nonetheless this does not matter much with him.

I hate to say it, but I'm going to be by myself this year. It seems like no one in Gensokyo even remembered to give me any valentines. Isn't that funny? I tried to ask Marisa about it but she said she was too busy and had some stuff to do at the Hakurei shrine. It's alright though, I've got Hourai and Shanghai to keep me company and we're going to make some valentines chocolate maybe just in case some one comes over and wants some chocolate. I'd really like if someone came over, just once. We could drink tea and have chocolate and I could show them my lovely doll collection. I want to show Marisa but she always says she's busy and has to go to the Hakurei shrine. I wonder what she does there? It must be quite an exciting place, but when I try to go there Reimu just tells me to go away and leave her and Marisa alone. It makes me feel a bit sad, but I can always come home and tell Hourai and Shanghai about it. They listen to me. They're good dolls. They never call Alice names like "creepy", "leaks poop" and "freak".

Still, this valentines day I wish I could have found out what it's like to hold someone. I once worked up the nerve to ask Marisa, but she said some horrible things she couldn't possibly have really meant and told me to play with my dolls. It must feel so nice to have someone in your arms. I bet it's really nice. Oh well, maybe next valentines day someone will come here and eat chocolate and we can try holding eachother. It's really curious that no one came this year, isn't it? I guess they were all busy, valentines isn't a holiday or anything. That's probably it. Lots of important stuff can come up on a day like today.

Kana continued to run back home, imperssively dodging and juking around people and telephone poles while balancing the grocery bags at her side. There was no way she was going to catch another cold. At this pace, she'd be home any minute. The empty stretch of sidewalk encouraged
her to run even faster. She could hardly wait to snuggle up under the kotatsu while enjoying Haruka's delicious yakitori with a steaming bowl of ramen. Just the thought of her and her sisters enjoying dinner together put a smile on her face. Her fantasy was suddenly destroyed when the wheels of a shiny, black limousine splashed a bucketful of water onto Kana, soaking her from head to toe. Wet and shivering, Kana was furious.

Im going to keep KSG alive for as long as i have to. Until everything is back to normal.

It must be wonderful to do small things like eat meals with another person around. It's usually so quiet around here, with no one coming to visit and me being alone all the time. I don't mind it so much, though. I have Hourai and Shanghai and all my dolls to take care of, and they keep me company even if they can't talk. Have I told you how good at listening they are? They'll just sit there and listen for hours to me talking about any little thing. I once tried having a long conversation with Marisa but after a few minutes she told me to shut up. I don't think she meant it though. She said she was busy and going to Hakurei shrine. I probably interrupted her from doing something important and she said some rash words that she didn't really mean.

Getting hugged must be great. I know you'll be surprised by this, but I've never been hugged. It seems like the kind of thing that would make valentines with another person nice. Isn't that funny? Little old me never having been hugged? I think it's kind of funny. I guess I'm just unlucky. I almost got hugged once but Marisa told the person who was going to hug me that I leak poop and then they didn't hug me. I felt a little bit sad but I suppose it's alright since it was just a joke.

Kana stood there, unsure what to do, when one of the doors at the front of the limousine opened. A tall, broad shouldered man pulled himself out of the car. He sported a shiny bald head, black sunglasses, and a black suit. His head darted left and right, as if anticpating some sort of attack. He cautiously approached Kana and told her something in a foreign language that she barely recognized as English. She was never very good at English; she had no idea what he said. The man took her groceries with one hand, and with the other hand, opened the back door of the limousine for her. Frightened and cold, she felt she had no other option, and she reluctantly stepped into the luxurious car.

Kana's wet bottom squished as she sat on the leather seat. After she settled, she finally looked up and saw the face of an older gentleman she recognized only from TV. The president of the United States of America, George W. Bush, was sitting across the limo in front of her! He sat there smiling, one leg crossed over the other, with his hands resting on his raised knee.

So, I honestly dont know how to tell this story. Neither am I sure if you all are able to believe it. I myself dont know. I would provide screencaps if possible, but the file had already been corrupted at this point and thus dubbed inactive. I dont plan on fixing that corrupted game file regardless. So anyways, here's the story.

There's an anime imports store around the area I live in and I was bored so I checked a few of their merchendise out. Nothing really caught my interest, until I saw one. A copy of Touhou 12 UFO.

Of course, plenty of people online have downloaded the game as opposed to actually buying the disk. But hey, I was bored. I had enough extra cash with me and I've recently started using a new PC so why not just use a disk. So thus I purchased it in the end. I asked the owner where he had recieved the copy. He informed me that somebody had just mailed it to him. I didn't really know what he meant, so I just played a long.

I even went as far as cracking up a joke on my head, "Pffft, yeeeaaaah and next thing I know, this disc is filled with those goofy creepypasta I read online, hahaha." I really wish I had just been kidding after what I finished playing.

I really hope I can spend this valentines day with Hourai and Shanghai. For some reason they haven't moved at all, and I'm a little bit sad because they're usually the only ones around besides me and it's hard to find anyone else to listen. It'd be nice to have them up and about because without their help the chocolate I'm going to make will turn out bitter, and that would be just awful if anyone happens to show up. I'm only a little bit sad, because I'm sure Hourai and Shanghai will get up again in time to make chocolate. Just in case anyone drops by. It's funny that no one's ever come by here, isn't it? Not even for valentines chocolates. Can you believe that? I've been here by myself for as long as I can remember. I even made a funny song about it. "The ground is down, the sky is up, and Alice is meant to be alone." Well, actually Marisa made the song about me.

It's a little bit dusty in here, isn't it? All this dust is making my eyes water. I guess I should clean up a little in case anyone comes to have chocolate on valentines day. It would be nice to have someone come. Maybe if they ate my chocolate they might like it enough to even try giving me a hug. It would be my first one. I think that would be really good. Hugging someone must feel so good. I don't leak poop, it's okay to hug me.

I guess I should start getting ingredients for the chocolate. I should get enough for everyone, just in case they all decide to come here and surprise me on valentines. I'll make lots of chocolate. I'm sure everyone will want some.

So, it was settled. As soon as I came home, I had some freetime, so I popped the disk into the hard drive and installed it as usual. However, something sort of made me think. The disk itself didn't have any of the game's charas or ZUN's art printed, let alone possess a guide book or booklet. It was just a white disk, with "LOTUS SAINT" written with pen.

I thought, "People and their goofy ass creepypasta. Well whatever I'm sure this will just sport the usual mumbo jumbo text." And finally, I started playing.

A few things I noticed right away. When the loading screen came up, instead of the usual "Shanghai Alice" mark popping out, it just said "Keep flying, dont return. Keep going." I just thought this was some shitty ass danmakufu bootleg and just again, played along. The title screen showed up and this time, something caught my attention. The menu was the same...but Reimu riding her treasure boat was nowhere to be found.

Instead, all I am greeted with is a black UFO, with red japanese text all over it as if was just messy handwriting. I had no knowledge of japanese so I had no idea, neither did I bother to try translating. So I went to character select. Again, something odd. Only Reimu was playable. many of you are aware that Sanae and Marisa are also playables in UFO...yet the option only gave me Reimu. It didn't bother me so I played on.
