The whole archetype of males holding more physical strength than women then. Even though there are little to no magical power for males in Gensokyo, they still can be physically strong. Amping your physical strength with magic does not constitute one as "strong" as it comes from an artificial source. So; many of the characters are not accepted as physically strong.

It sounds more like ZUN had come with a excuse to deter the shitstorm that would cause if male characters were plausible or something along this. Just saying, although there's nothing to back up his statement and it's not like he doesn't change his mind about things sometimes.

this doesn't make any sense since those humans who originally were part of Gensokyo were ancient youkai hunters, who would of had great spiritual power and would of likely been male (at least, japanese folklore tends to make powerful monster hunters male).
