Okay /jp/ ,
one of the few things that I have yet to touch on lately in the otaku community is touhou.
I've seen Bad Apple, fanart, Ronald McDonald parodies, and I checked out some gameplay but it just seemed like a regular old schmup, so I tossed it in the back of my mind.
But I've come to realize that every day on here there's like 8 touhou threads going on.
So please, enlighten me, what seperates touhou from all the other schmups?

I'm starting to reach that conclusion
But it's hard to ignore it just like that when in Japan they have stores dedicated completely to it.

Because it has little girls in it. Japan loves little girls, weeaboos like little girls and pedophiles like little girls.
And if you don't happen to like little girls you got your, mature girls, big tits girls, big ass girls. Seriously no one would give a shit about Touhou if it weren't for the female cast.

>> No.9210087

Because the characters are easily relateable because they are fundamental personalities that people can relate to. Being able to relate to it is a big thing.

That explains so much more than touhou

Because the main cast are terrible people

Reimu is an uncaring drunken hobo
Marisa is a thief and a psycho
Everyone else is immortal and therefore bored to insanity, willing to kill and terrorize to belay their crushing empty lives

And they all have the power to burn entire cities to the ground, if it weren't for booze and tea they'd have killed each other long ago.

Also hats and hat accessories.

I'm just going to give in and try it later for myself.
There's really no escaping Touhou.
But atleast I'll know for sure if it's worth it. rather than ignore and ask the myself the same question everytime.

> Doesn't know all important/esencial things about a game.

Let's see... Touhou is a normal Shoot'em up with some special things.
1: It's creator is a one-man Doujin circle, who cares about his creation and does all the things on his own.
2: Zun the creator is really dedicated to his creation. He makes the games with love in mind not money.
3: He gives almost total liberty to the fans to create content about Touhou.
Sometimes he even works with artists to make backstory mangas. Said works are usually considered canon.
4: Entire girl cast (in the games), enemies, bosses. friends.

Those are the main points I see as really unusual that make Touhou good in some sense. The games aren't really challenging compared to some of the newest, but you can enjoy it if you know how to.
Last:
> but it just seemed like a regular old schmup
> Implying that's a bad thing.
Some of the best games of the human history are really old or they have a really old school style, deal with it,you 12 years old brat.
PS: this thread smell like /a/ so much...

..Okay well, firstly, I didn't criticize it.
If anything all I've done is given what my perspective is from as far as I know, and that doesn't even show in the post you referenced so good job.

Secondly, me saying it looked like a regular old schmup, was me saying "Why does it have 20,000+ images on Danbooru, Stores dedicated to it in Japan, all over /jp/, etc. if it doesn't differ much from other schmups"
I'm just curious why it has a huge ass fan base.
So hop off my dick, you ignorant fuck.

>> No.9210644

ZUN emphasized the boss battles and wrote unique themes for all the characters. The scoring system also is good at encouraging competition and can keep the games entertaining for a long time. If you want to understand more about why the Touhou games became popular you should read some of ZUN's ideas on game design. Unfortunately most of the stuff he said about game design is untranslated (good thing you have rikaichan).
