That's why fighters should NEVER be about story because if you don't make a happy ending for every character people feel mislead when they beat the final boss.

Tekken/Namco do it right most of the endings are not really part of the main plot or what if's if not out right joke endings. It's was pretty consistent up until 6

GG plot is only "good" because it has so much deph and is complex same could of course be said of BB but to a lesser degree

Fighting games have always been barebone as hell in terms of single player content, only the newage casuals care about the story and bullshit customization. Namco gave the Soul Cal V developers one year to make the game so they focused on what really matters instead of dress up

I've been following GG for like almost 15 years now but I still only know that Sol Badguy was a scientist who listened to Queen. Oh and he also had to kill all the evil robots for some reason (even though he himself is also a robot).

Also I can't figure out the Castlevania canon either. Same with Megaman.

regarding the fighting games plots, I always enjoyed their sillyness, even if to actually know what happened you had to wait the game after.
the KoF Orochi and K' sagas were pretty cool...same with Guilty Gear. the post atomic-fantasy-metal setting was a dream come true.

Drama cd. Originally Ky dies. Justice dies too, Dizzy leads the Gears 10 years later and fucks all mankind. I-No finds Thatman in Dizzy's basement and he goes all "it wasn't supposed to be like this >:", then she goes back in time and saves Ky, which results in the timeline the games take place on.

Guilty Gear is the game that made fighting games relevant in aspects other than the gameplay, like the music and the plot. In fact the first fighting game to offer a plot that didn't revolve around a tournament was Guilty Gear X.
Since then there has been official material such as novels and drama cds that expand on the Guilty Gear Universe.
Don't put Guilty Gear on the same level as street fighting by saying stuff like "only the gameplay matters". that's insulting and goes against everything this franchise stands for >:
