JPSP is nice when you don't or can't sign for the package, but they tend to handle packages very roughly, occasionally take strangely long periods of time without tracking, and I believe aren't insured against loss.

EMS typically only costs a few hundred yen more, usually arrives in a few days, and rarely if ever damaged. The down side is you'll have to be awake/near the door to sign for it.

I really only use JPSP when there's a really large price disparity or I know I can't be assed to wait by the door all day.
