Do you know the truth about the problems with tattoos in japan?
i've heard that in some places they are forbidden but what about foreigners? i've been thinking on getting a henohenomoheji tattoo on my ribs, could that be a problem???

super traditional tattoos, you wont be able to go into most onsen (although it's possible, I've been to an onsen and some totally sleeved guy sat next to me in the spring since no one would sit next to us... combo gaijin and yakuza I guess).

like, super America tattoo (little one somewhere on your body), you'll probably be OK. But hey, if they say no, then don't fight it. Ultimately, breaking the status quo is worse than having a tattoo.

A Japanese sailor in the hot springs with me while I visited Beppu once told me the guys sitting on the other side of the room was "no good" because they had tatoos and were splashing each other.

When you go to a public bath, only the yakuza or non-japanese residents will sit next to you. Indians don't even bother going but the iranians are very friendly. And afterwards they almost always try to sell you some hash.

Tatoos are really not liked in Japan. I saw one sign in the Prince Hotel in Hiroshima that said no tatoos are permitted in ANY part of the hotel. They really dont like them

For the experience. I went once but it was empty (luckily :p). I would much rather take a private bath though.

>> No.968402

In Japan, only Yakuza used to have tattoos. That's why they are looked down upon.

>> No.968414

They aren't going to care if you have a small tattoo on your arm or lower back or something. Full-body tattoos, on the other hand, scream YAKUZA, and those are the people they're trying to keep out.

Not because they have anything against yakuza, just that it would probably discourage other customers if someone very obviously yakuza was hanging around.

white boy ≠ YAKUZA. Even with that I would personally hesitate to go in to a onsen since I have an armload of tattoo and tattoos on both shoulders. They might make others uncomfortable.

>> No.968503

Do they have a legal standing for refusing tattoo wearers? I'm sure having white people in the onsen could have made some customers uncomfortable at one point.

A second motive for the open border enthusiasm among contemporary left-libertarians is their egalitarianism. They were initially drawn to libertarianism as juveniles because of its "antiauthoritarianism" (trust no authority) and seeming "tolerance," in particular toward "alternative" — non-bourgeois — lifestyles. As adults, they have been arrested in this phase of mental development. They express special "sensitivity" in every manner of discrimination and are not inhibited in using the power of the central state to impose non-discrimination or "civil rights" statutes on society. Consequently, by prohibiting other property owners from discrimination as they see fit, they are allowed to live at others' expense. They can indulge in their "alternative" lifestyle without having to pay the "normal" price for such conduct, i.e., discrimination and exclusion. To legitimize this course of action, they insist that one lifestyle is as good and acceptable as another. This leads first to multiculturalism, then to cultural relativism, and finally to "open borders."

Think of it as payback.

Plus, Americans are smelly. And Caused death. And are always blonde and have blue eyes. Ever see an anime?

YA~~KU~~ZA~~! Tattoos are usually on Yakuza, the troublemaker gangs. It would be like walking into a bathhouse in the US(lol, legal?) with a fully automatic. Sure, it could be not loaded, but who wants to take the chances?

Foreigners can be drug traffikers. And you already stick out like a rusty nail.
