Why was the dungeon crawlers thread deleted? Was it because of the post image? Or too many download links?

In any case let's continue to talk about them here and not do whatever it was we did that we weren't supposed to do.

What have you been playing lately? What are you looking forward to? For newcomers what should we play what should we not.

Instructions for a Generation Xth 1-3 / Students of the Round / Meikyu X Blood pack (site won't let me post the link)
Google "Meikyuu Cross Blood pc download -360 -xbox -xbox360" without the quotes, in the first page there's a bts.ph link with a torrent that is still seeding.

A what? I don't know what that is (I'm new here) I just liked the previous thread and it never went overboard with anything which is why I was confused when I woke up and it was gone.

And I've seen people making new threads when the old got deleted, the rules/board culture doesn't seem to frown upon that.

My MPs and HPs drain super fast and I keep having to go back to town, heal it all, and go back to the dungeon (i'm only at the start on the second floor of the temple of trials). Is that normal or am I doing something wrong?

Also I feel like the game never told me how to recruit new followers. Off to google I go.

It's kind of like catching pokemon in pokemon, except you keep torturing the poor bastards before capturing them, instead of throwing an orb of some sorts at them.

The higher the charisma ranks of your party is, the higher the chances of the enemies being put in the "unchained status".
The lower their HP is, the more likely you they are to be inflicted with the "unchained status".
Every time you attack an enemy, it has a chance to be put into the "unchained status".

In short, have them be at approximately 50% HP or less. And then just beat them up with as many attacks as possible without killing them.
How much damage you inflict doesn't matter, so you could go at them with consecutive 1damage attacks from the 50% mark and then just keep on chugging at them until they hopefully submit.

And the higher your charisma rank, the easier it is.
And the lower their HP, the easier it is. That is to say, a 1damage attack at 50% HP can put them in unchained status, one at 25% is more likely, and one at <10% or <5% would be even more likely to put them in unchained status.

So be free to attack with your backrow mage for 1 damage each turn, or unequip the weapons of your party. Good armor/high defence helps so that you don't suffer too much damage as you hit them.

Thanks a lot anons. I've managed to capture one and unlock the Titan Darius area. I usually kill them in one blow so I had to lower the health bit by bit with the healer medusa girl.

Question though: she just leveled up, and on the skill map I'm connected to [Area Heal] but it won't let me activate it with my SPs. What is that about? Unless this is a story thing/a part of the gameplay I haven't unlocked.

>> No.10451696

>>10451670
If you haven't realized yet, the skills in the center of every grid are usually big skills that are worth a lot of SP. They ripped off that grid system from FFX if you didn't realize that either, you might as well learn how it worked in FFX and then you'll know how it works in Unchained series.

You're supposed to learn the surrounding skills in order to unlock them. It can be tedious and misleading, giving you crappy surrounding skills for a decent/mediocre mid one, or the mid one itself could be shitty and pointless to take.

Certainly not a semi-linear game I would play without a lot of planning.

>> No.10451700

>>10451696
I thought about that but I unlocked other center skills without doing everything around it and just 1 sp so I thought that wasn't it. It doesn't seem to say how many SPs you need though, oh well. Thanks.

Yeah, once your level is about par with the area (as in your exp bar gains aren't really high anymore) there are often many shortcuts you can unlock, such as opening a previously jammed door from the other side or turning on power to the elevator.

Also, an alternative is to have Mari (loli 4th character in first chapter) make a beeline to the top right corner of the skilltree where she gains two passives to automatically heal your party a little for free (while you walk and after every battle), making her like Princess from Etrian Odyssee III. However, this is up to you, because that means you will be avoiding good skills and making her comparatively useless in combat.

What? It has the standard wizardry gains. You have a certain 'target' based on your level+race+class that the game is working towards. There is no reason to scum for gains. You can hack 99 str at level 1 and you'll lose str every level until you get within +5 or so of your target.

Different guy, but it's pretty good. I played through about 50% of it on the emulator after the Wizardry Online CBT ended.

Somehow my computer was too crappy to continue emulating it beyond the floor with lots of ninja enemies. I'm not sure why but ninja enemies utterly destroy my FPS, dragging it down from like 40 avg to about 0.3. On the floor I gave up in, there were often groups of 4+ ninjas, so I just had to quit. There's something wrong with the emulator and those ninjas, or maybe the build of it had, other people reported the same problem on other poor computers, and people with better computers reported no issue.

Also Wizardry 8 is a fair bit different from the older ones. The Japanese Wizardries are more like the early Wizardry games (and things like EO etc).

I forgot about the Dark Spire, I need to give that a shot sometime. Will probably put it off for now though because I finish Unchained Blades recently and EO4 is coming in about 2 weeks. I'm so glad Japan is keep this older style alive.

Some of the Western "updates" to the style are kind of neat too. Grimrock was a neat attempt at an evolved dungeon-crawler.

Sure, Grimrock was pretty alright. There are many, many good first person dungeon crawlers out there but aren't so similar to the style Japanese like.

Might and Magic VI- The Mandate of Heaven for example is fantastic.

I wish there was a Dungeon Crawler game with fucking third person battles. I mean come on even smt 5 is first person again. I want to see my characters and weapons and different amour. they are making even 3d enemies, but they cant show your character? the only Dungeon Crawler i can think of with third person battles is persona 1 and 2.

You're right, I guess Grimrock was probably more like the half-way point between (Japanese Wizardry) and things like Might and Magic.

And yeah, M&M6 is one of my favorite games ever. I wish I had my giant oldbox still, but in poor foresight, I threw them all away because of their bulk.

I think it's more of a budget thing to be perfectly honest.

But let's look at this logically for a second, Persona 5 is in development for what we assume will be HD platforms. Kaneko isn't working on SMT IV. Atlus and Intelligent Systems are co-developing an RPG for the Wii U.

Kaneko is probably working on new demon assets for HD platforms.

I prefer first person battles anyway, they are much better pace for me. People speak about perspective changes being barring but then Devil Survivor had the same extreme perspective shift.

I would hate for EO to be third person, a lot.

I think a lot has been reasonably explained in this thread. Making 3D models in EO makes sense as it is a decently selling franchise they'll probably make more sequels to. It'd have to be done at some point.

Kaneko is probably doing HD demons for SMTxFE.

I've never really seen SMT as a series where I look at animations, armor, weapons etc and have no problem with SMT IV design choices personally.

Sadly first person battles make me not want to spend money on them. I might not buy etrian odyssey 4 and even smt 4 because of it. these types of games aren't worth more than 10-15 bucks because of the amount of effort the makers don't put in them. they most aren't worth 40 dollars thats for sure. Ill get them maybe when the 3ds has a fladcart, the same with soul hackers. >> No.10477168

You know you are posting in a dungeon crawler thread right?

Most people in here including me think you sound like a fucking idiot. All you are doing is crying over not seeing your characters and ignoring intricate dungeon design, the fantastic soundtrack EO in particular has and the sheer amount of content. To think little effort was put into these games if frankly absurd and childish.

And importantly, a game like EO in third person, the perspective change would kill the dungeons and the way it's played. Instead of being an immersive window into a labyrinth it becomes a barren corridor walking game. The perspective in EO is actually integral to the design.

If you think they made some mistake with SMT IV despite having all of this explained multiple times and the fact Atlus are a very low budget developer/publisher then that's too bad, but you've made no effort at understanding at all.

frankly, I'm glad there are companies out there like atlus who would rather have lots of content, well designed dungeons, nice looking art, etc., then some arbitrary third person models
plus, smt4 has third person models, and you can change your appearance, it's just battles that are in first person

if first person dungeon crawlers aren't for you, that's fine, but please don't shit up this thread with your complaining, it isn't conducive to anything

>>10477196
would you rather have them reuse sprites or 3d models that would look like shit on 3ds? besides, there have been screen shots of battles with dozens of demons at once, something that couldn't be done if they used 3d models

>>10477163
Sounds like what you want is a normal jrpg preferably with a class system. Well, you are in luck because those are common as hell.
Also, 3d looks like shit unless they put a ton of work into it. making 40 good looking models (for all classes), a good 3d effect system, and a unique armor graphic for each armor and weapon takes money. Lots.

>>10477196
If having a first person view during battle with pictures of the demon instead of 3d models would have ruined nocturne for you, I don't even know what to say. It's such a minor issue that can be nice to have, but by no means does it inherently add much.

I find that doubtful. They have at least 3-4 games in development. And even if they have, what will they do? Take Kaneko off of console development? Put someone who isn't Kaneko onto SMT IV?

I honestly don't see the problem here. As someone else pointed out we've seen screens with a LOT of demons that wouldn't be possible in 3D. They could exploit the perspective and add something new to gameplay, but people want to bitch about not seeing some animation.

This might be hard for you to understand I don't fucking know.

For one thing you see your demons in portraits. But more importantly LOOKING at your demons isn't the fucking point. Playing the game is, spending time trying to fuse a perfect team of demons is why people play SMT. Not to look at pretty pictures.

What's next, you want a 5 hour introduction and a story heavy experience?

And whoever was saying EO can be third person with "more effort" another pointless idea you idiots keep trying to force misses the entire point of why EO exists.

3DS has a lot of dungeon crawlers, yes. Soul Hackers is a game we should have gotten 15 years ago. EO is EO for fans of dungeon crawlers. SMT IV is SMT with first person battles.

Atlus actually supports the 3DS with localizations so go bitch to SE about Bravely Default instead of shitting up a thread about these games people like.
