So I just found out Prince Shotoku was probably homosexual. But it all makes sense now because Miko was actually a woman. So she's gay for men.

Really, until the creation of consumer-oriented pleasure culture, there weren't really a concept of 'heterosexual' or 'homosexual'; while Abramhamic religions made homosexual acts sinful/punishable, one wouldn't have the concept of identifying with a particular act or another because the vocabulary of consciousness just wasn't there.
