I remember having huge problems eating at work, too, because I had a tremendous fear of buying food in cafeterias and standing in a line, and it took me a lot of time and courage to remedy it, but now I guess I'm finally cured and I can order food there and still find a place in there where I could eat alone.

Sorry to hear this. Teaching must be a tough job indeed. I don't fully understand what you mean by "in your face", though. Are other teachers making some nasty remarks or do you dislike people approaching you while eating and minding your own business? I think you are in a position to pour some cold water on people dreaming of a teaching career in Japan if you so desire.

I remember we had a physics teacher who seemed to have social problems and every break he was pacing around the courtyard, talking to himself or eating something. Some kids told stories about his seeming absent-mindedness, but I don't remember anyone saying anything actually mean. It pains me that I'd do exactly the same if I were in his place right now.

I spent all my lunches walking to or standing in different bathrooms during 10th-12th grade. People eventually found out which sucked.

I did that in 9th-10th. I went to a small high school where everyone knew everyone so I didn't like the thought of always being one of those people who ate alone. Luckily they gave us a lot of freedom and we could eat outside or even in some classrooms so I don't think anyone noticed since people moved around a lot.

In 11th-12th I went to a big high school and just skipped lunch and went to the library. It was nice on Wednesday because the guy who had the locker next to mine would have the same lunch time as me and he would always come talk to me even though he had a lot of friends.
