Is there any Touhou doujin game that is free (as in freedom)?

Has ZUN considered releasing his games as free (as in freedom) software? At least the PC-98 ones?

Why would I want to work for months to give a free game to some lazy NEET?

Coding is a art. Art does not have to be free (rms agreed, don't bother him about it).

Why is "NEET" crap even an issue here?

Nobody who's a zero-reflexes mental cripple jerkoff shut-in fatso would actually be able to play this or any other arcade-style shooter.

Shove it.

ZUN is into the indie game scene, not the open source scene. And anyway, it isn't even just software he's selling, it's music and graphics and danmaku fireworks patterns etc. content

I was going to tease you about how you should write an open source DirectX implementation first, but then I remembered that Wine exists and it runs all the integer Touhou games just fine.

Given how accurate and fast STGs have to be, isn't this a bad idea? I mean, isn't this the kind of game where all those optimizations and high precision floating point things actually matter?

Cross-platform, easy to meddle with. Competitive players will not accept an engine remake even if it's totally bugfree and done in hand-tuned assembly and C, I think the guy just wanted so learn and share how the original engine works, and looks like he achieved what he wanted. But I'm also curious how snappily it runs.

I'm a game developer, and my philosofy is that games are gifts of the gods (and by "gods" I mean "programmers") to mankind. Gifts shouldn't be priced, after all, this is why we call them "gifts".

The problem is that the gods need to pay their bills and buy food, so unfortunately some gifts need to be priced despite the fact they are gifts.

However, such pricing must not only be reasonable, but also acessible for the largest demographic possible. What good is a gift that no one can receive? The more people that can receive the gift, the better!

Therefore, expensive games are not gifts and you shouldn't care about them because the gods that made them just want to wring out your money as much as they can. Your money is worth a lot, and it should be treated accordingly.

Making games is a pleasure if you are indeed a person meant to be a game developer, and the biggest pleasure of making games is having your game being played, rather than people simply buying it.

TL;DR Reasonable selflessness is a virtue, faggot. Be virtuous.

I'm developing a touhou doujin game and it's going to be completely free (and if I change my mind about it, I beg you in advance to pick a gun and come assassinate me, because I deviated from my righteous path).

So there's it.

As I said in that /jp project thread, I'll post about this touhou doujin game of mine as soon as I get a playable alpha working. All I have to show about this game for now is it's premises, art and story (Games are supposed to be playable applications and not walls of text explaining how they are going to be).

Why is accessibility inherently a good thing?

>> No.10904514

>>10904501

By "accessible" I mean "many people can afford to buy it", and NOT "casual shit that even a down syndrome amoeba can beat".

I should have typed "accessible price", but I thought you guys would imply that from the context.

>> No.10904545

>>10904514
But why should many people get the chance to play it? Those who REALLY want to play it can just pirate it anyway.

>> No.10904566

>>10904545

Why pirate a game you can buy for a low price? It's like you going to the shop and shoplifting for a single chewable gum.

Piracy can indeed support the videogame industry untila certain point. Beyond that point you are helping game studios to lose money and therefore making the life of the gods more shitty.

Come on. I might not have a wife and kids to feed, but I do need to feed myself anyways! Or, you either buy the games or you will have to tolerate people making craptons of freemium games and games cramped with thousands of advertisements.

>> No.10904570

>>10904545
Not him, but why would you force people to pirate when you can release it at a fair price?

>> No.10904575

>>10904566
Because I don't want other people, normals, to enjoy the same thing. I would much rather have it for a high price. This limits the market and cuts off undesirables.

More people don't pirate than do.
