AoRF disowned the horrors he created. Eksopl recently expressed a similar sentiment.

Ephemerality was the best feature of image boards, even better than anonymity, and you fucknuggets had to ruin it, all for a quick claim to fame. Anyone ever could have implemented that same software, they were just respectful enough not to.

The archives did bring some negative consequences, but at least it didn't get as bad as we feared when /reports was implemented.
A hellish landscape of tripfags inflating their post counts and linking at the statistics as an ace to use in discussions. It would have been no different from regular forums and a lot was argued on this. And yet it didn't happen.

Ephemerality is mostly gone and the oral/reposting tradition was replaced. Even the OC repositories are gathering dust because there's no point manually saving and cataloging the produced images. But all things considered, it could have been a lot worse. We never devolved to "my post count/join date is superior than yours therefore I'm right" and I choose to count that as a win.

I wonder how different things would have gone if /jp/ hadn't been the first board to be archived from the very start. Less chained threads and isolated communities perhaps. Even more meta regardless of rule 8. Less anonymous and more names since there'd be no fear of saying something stupid that will be saved and filed for future mockery, which doesn't make sense anyway since we had too many names at the start.
Don't really know, but can't help but wonder.

It wasn't. The /a/rchive: the clue is in the name. If you mean from the start of /jp/, plenty of early posts weren't archived.
