Playing IM0 for the past 3 days. I can't remember the last time a game has hooked me this much. I think I'm in chapter 6 or 7.

Not really. It's not particularly complicated in terms of difficulty, but it tries it's hardest to drag on and on. As mentioned before, the script keeps repeating itself (this is a forest, the leaves are green, this is a forest, I'm walking on dirt, this is a forest, etc.) and going verbose when not necessary (instead of just "this is a forest", it will be something like "The large density of flora, including trees and flowers, all along this path proves that I, indeed, am currently walking through a forest", which is seriously unnecessary fluff, and top of that it gets repeated several times), which will prove to be a chore to read. If these problems were fixed the script would be noticeably smaller.

It's a shame because there's a good game behind it. The soundtrack is nice, the art is fairly decent, the porn is good, Maia is pure love and I like the atmosphere and the themes involved, but the writing is probably going to give you trouble until you get better simply because it drags on and you're going to spend a long time with most of the script wondering what the fuck the writer is going on about with his verbose text... until you realize that it's all entirely pointless.

So... no, I guess. And I might have just made the same mistakes as Hapymaher's writer did with this unnecessarily long post, so there you go.

There was a comment posted a few threads ago which said that there was 5 hours of the same old slog until you get the porn you would expect from a fandisk, but still I imagine that the writer might have decided to tone it down due to complaints.

Well THAT was interesting.

Nagi's name in her past life as a human loli was Ren. Hikaru was a tulpa created by Ren so she wouldn't be lonely anymore. But then Ren died due to unknown circumstances, and Hikaru was so upset that she couldn't protect Ren so she became a Pieces. Ren became a Pieces as well because she died with regrets; Death-sensei took Ren under her wing and gave her the name Nagi. Unfortunately Nagi/Ren doesn't remember anything about her past life and drama happens.

People in this thread exaggerate how bad the writing was in the original. I went back and read Saki's route last week (and I'm really glad I did because it was actually pretty interesting, and developed the relationship between Tohru, Saki, and Maia a lot). Honestly, yes, the writing can get a bit obnoxious during the SoL scenes, but once things start happening, while it's still verbose, I didn't find it especially annoying. Tohru being such a spineless faggot was more annoying to me than the writing style.

But yeah it's not really at the level of Dies Irae yet, but the parts of DI that really made me think it was a masterpiece were the second part of Marie's route and Rea's route so I have high hope for the rest of Senshinkan.
Especially the knowledge that a Grand route exist make me all giddy.

Though if I have one complain about Senshinkan, it is that it's not as "cool" as DI and KKK, well spamming the rule of cool may have been too much for some people but it was one of the thing I liked in them, I guess the fact that there is no character like Shirou hurt.

Those are only during the relatively short trials (compared to majority of the game which works out like a regular ADV visual novel or point'n'click adventure) and the time limits are really lax in both games even on hardest difficulty settings, plus you can repeat and slow down the statements multiple times. Even if you manage to run out of time and get a game over you're offered a quick restart from the same segment without any punishment. The second game is much better than the first one, which wasn't too shabby either in my opinion. The real problems with both games were the almost non-existential side routes and I reckon hearing some people complaining about both being rather short for their asking price (not a problem for most of /jp/ I assume).

I'm more compelled to agree with the previous Anon's stance, but please lets not delve into /b/ tier arguments. I don't really understand why these particular games always manages to start big arguments.

God this chart looks like shit. Also way too big.

Also there aren't a lot of voiced segments in DanganRonpa and there's some scientific terminology in S;G I couldn't imagine a lot of newbies being able to comprehend. That and the slang.

>> No.11945364

>>11945306
Yeah, it's a trilogy. The first game is more of an introduction with a bunch of separated arcs / mysteries and ends a bit abruptly on a high note while the second one feels a lot more wholesome, but leaves plenty of unsolved mysteries, has a pretty big sequel hook and easily leaves you wanting for more.

>>11945346
It could have some short descriptions or warnings about the difficulty if the one making the chart is willing to put the effort. F.ex. as you mentioned DanganRonpa has plenty of unvoiced sections between the court segments but is otherwise really simple both writing and vocab wise. And while stuff like S;G, Root Double and Baldr Sky do use some scientific terms, they're usually repeated a lot and the writing itself is very straightforward. Though I do agree about some of the slang stuff in S;G.

Or to make it faster there could just be a big disclaimer about even the easiest plot-driven VNs usually being harder than the basic moege. IMO as long as it gives at least some sort of direction to newcomers it's good enough.

I have this one like stuck in my head かまわんぞい! I don't even really remember the context or the setting of the VN just that there was this girl with a really cute ぞい and she used it a lot. I don't think it was a recent game but I don't think it was any older then 2008. I think she was from a wealth family or at least a high pedigree, I don't think she was a main character she could have been I'm not too sure. I can't even remember if the setting was in school or not it could have even been fantasy or sengoku, I really don't remember.

I know that's not a lot of informations to go on but do you guys have any ideas? I've had this stuck in my head for awhile and I really want to try and figure this out.

Finished Senshinkan

I think it did few things a lot better than DI but at the same time there were more things that were disappointing compared to Dies Irae. Definitely felt that the writer wanted to make the whole thing a lot more accessible and easier to understand this time. I could write a wall of text of all the things I disliked and thought were disappointing, but I did still think it was a great read overall.

I'll probably get in more detail with my impressions and complaints once the dust has settled and more people have finished it. Meanwhile I think I'll go read a nukige or two to neutralize all the excitement and thrill that the final battle put me in.

Done with senshinkan. Spent all day with Mizuki's route, tiring as hell but rewarding when you actually finish it, shame I discovered how to skip ed movies too late.
Loved it in general, haven't been as satisfied with a game in a long time, my only complaint with it was that I'd have wanted a longer epilogue for the second endings, but I guess everything will go well for the rest of the cast.
Also more villains should go out in this fashion.

Finished loli robot route in Nostalgico.

Genuinely surprised by it; I went in blind expecting something cute with robots and maybe some half-assed techno-racism, and instead got a rather well-thought-out science fiction setting with some actual science in there, one of the better depictions I've seen of self-aware robots, quite a bit of future technology porn, and some reasonably thoughtful insights on transhumanism and robot-human relations.

It also made some unexpected references to Western movies, like one of the encryption keys to the main robot girl's primary systems being hidden in her memory, encoded as the theme song to Chariots of Fire.

Downsides are lackluster OST, art was standard pretty but CG proportions were off, and the MC being a non-entity I can deal with since it focused more on the setting and the AIs, but thanks to the route going in a completely different direction at the end he does nothing but echo people's names for the last hour or two. So it's not perfect.

But for a technophile like me it hit all the right buttons, was incredibly relaxing and honestly just interesting to read, something that I've been needing for a while now.

This is almost a year late but how did it go over for other people? I can see it being a major drag for someone not interested in teaching robots how to love.

>> No.11948867

>>11948824
Haven't played it myself, but I remember playing a bit of the trial and my impression was that it did seem to have a nicely developed setting. Everything had a decent amount of attention to detail, from the art to the interface itself, and had a bunch of helpful notes on a few relevant concepts like Neumann architecture. Seemed like the kind of thing that would grab the attention of the resident technophiles, but it didn't seem to end up grabbing much attention. Of course, that includes me, and I'm speaking based a very small section of the entire thing.

About the protagonist, I remember him being onscreen and voiced on a regular basis. Seems a bit strange to have him turn out to be not that relevant. The reference to the Chariots of Fire theme song conjures mental images of a theoretical cheesy and hilarious scene of the protagonist and his lolibot running towards each other with their arms spread wide in slow motion.

>> No.11948895

>>11948867
Fair enough. It's really slow-paced and relaxing, most of the common route is just them fixing up an old robot they found with plenty of opportunities for infodumps on the workings of quantum computing, and even if it was only just reading a wiki article the author did do the research.

The MC being voiced for all the important parts was nice, it's more like he just didn't play much of a part beyond emotional support. Maybe he does in the other routes, I'm not sure. On the other hand he also kisses a robot so hard she overheats and literally short-circuits.

If you want something relaxing I'd recommend giving it another look, it was pretty good at warm fuzzy healing stuff but with more than just the girls to keep it going.
