Did anyone read the WA2 IC "rough patch"?

I did and it wasn't nearly as bad as people claimed it would be. It was a bit awkward in parts, but it made sense and it got the point across. The main point of a translation is conveying the same message in another language after all. I for one welcome our new machine overlords.

It's both the number of errors and the egregiousness of them.

Or I guess it's a philosophical exercise. Which is a worse translator, one that gets 10% of every line wrong? Or one that gets 100% of every tenth line wrong?

Though I guess in Ixrec's case, it's kind of both.

Ixrec makes more errors than I personally find acceptable and is not a skilled enough writer to manage some complex stuff well in English.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it. IRC works well, can be accessed on pretty much every platform, is quick and has a good degree of anonymity, supports all essential features perfectly, is extremely customizable (both client and server-side), and is guaranteed to remain stable.

But of course you prefer caving in to peer pressure to belong with the cool kids, using instant messaging software requiring you to register using your real name and phone number, being only usable in specific devices, only one device per user, being forced to use their specific proprietary client which lacks basic features such as client-side chat logging and much more and has no customization, being able to reach only the people you're close enough to in real life, and with every word you type into it with your crappy touchscreen keyboard recorded to be sold to any company that is willing to pay for it. But that's okay, you can now be confident in knowing you're one of the cool kids.

No thanks, I'll stick with IRC.

WhatsApp requires all of that and is currently the most popular IM client. Skype is slightly less retarded and is second most popular. The further you go down the list, the less retarded the services become, but the less people are using it. As a general rule, the newer the service, the more restrictive it is. I read through the entire game and I will not deny that the translation sucks, but I will question the claims of a Machine TL. Machines do not make spelling errors and dumb grammar errors. Machines know how to spell "embarrassed" properly, they know the difference between "your" and "you're", and they don't jumble things up such as "wiht" or "good jbo". That alone makes me think that it was done by a typical ESL "translator" who didn't check their work.

The translation needs a heavy edit and plenty of TLC, but it is certainly readable. I'd say it's about on par with the Clannad patch which was shit, but not shitty enough for me to give up on it.

I have been playing around with the idea of trying one for a while. Before all of the naysayers chime in, I know it's difficult and honestly, I'd be surprised if I got far enough with it that it'd see the light of day.

But, the reason I ask is because I've picked one out "Kimi ga Aruji de Shitsuji ga Ore de", and have been looking into tips in general. So the script is decrypted. It's an "nscript.dat" file. I can open it and successfully edit it with notepad++ (notepad works but it's crazy slow and just shoots the entire thing out as a wall of text). With notepad++ it opens it quickly and provides it in an easy to read fashion. The edits I make work and the translated text show up in the game where it should. But I'm having trouble with some spacing. Sometimes the spaces I put show up, and other times they don't. For example, the first thing I come across is "Would you like to skip the opening?". At least that is how it should read. What I get is "Wouldyou liketoskipthe opening?". Would anyone have any tips on what to try to fix that? No matter how many spaces I add, it still shows up the same way. Some letter combos just refuse to have spaces in between them. I realize not every VN works the same way and it's difficult to pinpoint the cause/how to fix it, but I'm open to advice.

Yeah, Baldr Sky is pretty easy to read. The only thing that might fuck up people is that if you don't pay close attention to the infodumps you might get all confused later on. But even then, grammar-wise there's nothing out of the ordinary. There's the fact that you can't hook the gameplay info like the description of techniques or weapons but it's not like anyone cares about them anyway.

Using notepad++ works on changing the text, and that's how you're supposed to change the text in the script. But you have to use a hacked exe to start the game to make the text display support english, hence the use of ONscripter-en. It's an interface for nscripter that supports english text. Put the onscripter-en files inside the game folder and try starting it with that, that should work.

What I meant was that onscripter-en IS the exe you should be using to start the game, not the original exe or the no-dvd version exe, since onscripter-en has english support and the original japanese exe doesn't. Then again, if you're having difficulties getting it to start with it, then it's very likely the game isn't programmed as simple as the other nscripter games, probably because of the no dvd protection that onscripter-en doesn't have the function to bypass, which means you probably need to get a hacker to help you out on that.

I know. I put it in the game folder and tried to launch it with ONscripter-EN. I wasn't treating it like a 3rd party plug-in for the game or anything. But still, it refused to open up. It made my computer act like it was trying to do something, but aside from my mouse arrow turning into the little loading-wheel icon for a few seconds, nothing happened. While I have applied a no-cd patch, the launcher I'm using was edited by proger to open a decrypted nscript file. The script was decrypted using a tool by asmodean. Apparently the game itself can recognize Unicode blank characters. At least an ideographic space or the EM Quad. Don't really remember which at the moment, so I suppose I can always use that and continue with the translation. It's not ideal, as the space is slightly wider than a normal space, but it's still preferable to no space at all.

Thanks for the help, guys. I'll continue worrying about it later down the line.
