I completed the CG set of IM2 short ago and am now pretty much done with the game. First playthrough took over 65 hours, which is a good bit longer than the duration of the other games in the series.

What strikes me the most gameplay-wise, is how much better the dungeons are designed in here compared to the later entries. You have multiple layers, numerous map interactions, hidden rooms, diverse locations and a reasonable walking speed, not long linear corridors with the odd tangent leading to some treasure chest. The battle system is the usual fare, the balance is off though with the enemies being generally too weak for my taste, and it's not like you can avoid grinding when auto-battling is faster than simply escaping from encounters. I did like the adventure interface, manual party stat management and limited inventory however.

What I also mostly liked was the art and its colouring. I thought the "battle cards" and their different poses were especially well done. The party member sprites in dungeons, while moving awkwardly, also look much better than the SD abominations of the later games.

In relation to the first game, the sequel's plot is a lot grander, but also less focused, suffering from pacing issues. Some subplots remain not resolved or only unsatisfactorily so. It's very similar to the way the story developed from GnK1 to GnK2 in that regard.

Were there more choices and branching, independent player initiative in progressing the plot, cutting or editing of the more superfluous text, better pacing, improved game balance, a cleaned up interface, this could be really something. Not that I am holding my breath for the probably inevitable remake. Even if they magically got a new writer, reconsidered IMM's questionable gameplay alterations and all, the stupid retconning they began in the prequels wouldn't go away. After I learnt how some of these past events were originally envisioned, I can only shake my head at the elaborate nonsense they pulled in IM0.

I was actually planning on going a bit more into detail there, but I reached the character limit and couldn't be arsed to separate my post.

Anyway, I was specifically thinking of the original backstory and personality of Celica, how he met and came to fall for that certain someone, and what caused him to turn on her in the end, which is all brought up in IM2, but was heavily altered in IM0. I simply like the original ideas there better now that I know of them, which naturally causes my evaluation of the prequel to take a hit.

Just finished Sharnoth after 12 hours of straight reading, and it being on hold forever.

10/10 ending and world building. The first half was almost painful though, and I understand that the author wants certain things to feel extremely important by repeating their 5 minute introductions, but it doesn't need to happen 23 times jesus fuck engine corridor. I swear it would've taken 10 hours less if the repeated text was just minimized to the more important scenes where you needed that stuff to feel important.

Finished Reminiscence - Re: collect. It sort of delivered, I felt the end could possibly be drawn out a bit more as it was rather snappy. I suppose I would've liked a short prologue explained the meshed route leading upto this story as it takes elements from all routes of original heroines.

Now that I am reflecting on the major retcons, revealing what they are is deeply intertwined with the main twist of the game, so I don't actually think it's a good idea to read them up if you ever plan on playing the game. It's only all disclosed in the finale of the last chapter of the game.

In retrospect, I also would never recommend anyone to start the series with IM0 (like I did), since if you are able of counting one on one together, you can make an educated guess about the nature of the mentioned main twist with the knowledge of the prequels in mind.

Finished Re;Lord. The gameplay was a bit too simplistic but I didn't mind too much since it's only a half price game (and therefore half length) so it ended before I got bored of it.
I laughed a little at how much work they put into the clothes destroying system though. Almost every piece of clothing can be destroyed and has a different image for not destroyed, half destroyed, etc. The clothing status also applies to the h-scene afterwards so it's possible to sort of customize how the h-scene will look like.
The game ended in a "to be continued" kind of thing and even announced the title for the next game so I guess now I have another game to look forward to.

Going to play SofthouseChara's Out Vegetables now just because of the silly name.

This may seem like an odd request, but what's the eroge with the most 'unique' art you can think of? All moege and normal-ish eroge seem to look kind of the same. Same washed-out pastel palette, no defined outlines, little attempt to make things look three dimensional and so on. It all has the same kind of 'feel'. I can only think of littlewitch games as far as ones that have a really distinct art style, and I suppose cheapo nukige sometimes look different as well.

After getting done with all my other stuff, I was finally going to start BSD when I noticed shortly into the beginning that the merger of Dive 1+2 did in fact not succeed (I wrote about this some time ago if anybody remembers).

Now I don't feel like messing with reinstallations and everything all over again, is it really a not recommended to play Dive 1 "normally" from its own folder? I read a few times on here that D1 ought to be played via D2, but what does that change anyway?

I played both separately but it's more because I've had a problem with the version I downloaded. Honestly the only thing I would recommend for people merging Dive1 and 2 would be to skip jihad when playing D1, and watch Restoration through a youtube video or something. To be honest, I think Jihad only actually suits Sora's route, but it'll grow tiresome if you keep listening to it ever since the first route.

That title screen came up after I reinstalled and then booted D2 up while having D1 installed (though IIRC it had more than four options), so I simply wondered what would happen if you started the game from there (I just closed it back then because I thought it was proof that the merging was successful).

But yeah. I agree. It's super long though. The whole series, including Higurashi, took me literally half a year to finish. Though I did play a few other games in the mean time. But damn, it's still so long.

I liked chapter 3 a lot, it's probably one of my favorites. That CG is from the end of the chapter, right? I'm not sure what to say about that since I don't really remember what happened in what chapter. I don't want to accidentally spoil you.

A recommendation for slightly less hardcore Mareni would be Shinju no Yakata. With the exception of Romeo's route, the text in that felt a lot more like something I'd expect from a novel than an adv game, but it was still probably a few steps below what Mareni's written for railsoft in terms of difficulty.

Felt like they conflicted with my image of the character.
Honestly makes no sense to me now, but tastes change I guess.

Just started this - there is something very "cool" about the dialogue writing, even it's something the MC enjoys. This teasing already feels quite different to most VNs I read before, the closest to this feel initially (I am not far) would be Bradyon Veda, which had a more scifi clinical chillness writing to it.

I also randomly got one of the enkidu combinations correctly and supposely the routes/events changes slight. Does anyone know what range of change does it do, like ordering of events or slight change of dialogue?

Does somebody have a walktrough of or can somebody tell me how to get the Natsuhi and Kagura routes in Summer Radish Vacation 1.1? I wish someone would translate it, but it's a game from fucking 2003 and doesn't seem to have enough fans to generate enough demand for that.

Near the bottom is a list of the heroines, so pick which one you want and I think it will show you how to get their routes. I didn't pay too much attention since all I did was a half-assed search, so don't hold it against me if I'm wrong.
