How many of you guys have gone through that phase where you download Genki and try to learn Japanese?

I fell asleep reading Genki for about a month last year and suddenly dropped it and never bothered with it again. I find that browsing /jp/ and just waiting for crap to get translated is easier.

>> No.1287680

I have not gone through this phase.

>> No.1287681

I do twice a year or so, been trying since 99.

>> No.1287682

I did the same thing when I wanted to understand the story in LoveDeath2 and later when I wanted to understand the girls in AG3. That's just how ronery I am.

I decided that I was never going to understand it fluently after I realized just how much vocabulary there is. I'll stick to English and Google translator.

>> No.1287690

Why would you need that many Xbox 360s? Oh wait.

>> No.1287699

I will put my mind to learning Japanese once I'm done with German and Russian.

You forgot the RROD Xbox that he's procrastinating to send back. I'm guessing that's the 4th one judging both the tactful red dress.

Well obviously your motives for trying to learn Japanese were too low tier.

>> No.1287765

>>1287748
But there's two more Xboxes on top of those 4 ones.

>> No.1288308

There are no non-low tier reasons to learn Japanese.

Each and every one of them is pathetic in their own right, and no intelligent person would take it for their career since it's a worthless language to learn since tons of weeaboos are already flooding the "translator" market.

There are no non-low tier reasons to learn any language other than English, really.

>> No.1288364

It's been a phase since '04, I've only finished and understood one PS2 NTSC-J JRPG so far, and this was 2 years ago.

I learnt 500 kanji with on and kun readings with my summer off from uni, but that was just with the Japanese school kanji list and a dictionary, not Genki. I'm picking up bits of grammar as I go along, but I want to learn the whole of elementary school kanji before I learn large amounts of vocab and grammar, then slowly work on all these aspects as I learn the rest of the common use kanji.

But being a fan of loli-H games, most of what I want is never going to be translated, so I am forced to do it myself. I could kind of understand sections of Imouto Pets, enough to find my way through the route I wanted and realise what was going on.

I have this guy on my Xbox Live friendlist.
He accepted my friend request, and we've never messaged or spoken to each other.

I've done it, Genki seems good but I really need the workbook in paper format and I havent got a printer.

>> No.1289540

I dont know what Genki is but i went to a site that taught japanese for about a week.

>> No.1289585

I downloaded Genki and read it for a couple weeks. Then I decided I would buy it, because I hate reading ebooks. I haven't looked at it since I bought it.

I also learned 300 kanji with Heisig, then quit. Now I remember like 10.

7 360's? man he RROD most of them.

But they're right. Unless you want to work in Japan, there are no non-low tier reasons to learn Japanese.

Got mine from the bookstore at my college. I was originally going to take a class, but I dropped it because it was terrible. Also, try Amazon and Ebay, I think I've seen them there.
