Monitoring a place so nobody can kill themself isn't as good as solving the reason why people want to kill themself in the first place. Japanese society is pretty harsh, a lot of people give up because they can't keep up with the demands of it. Hikkis and NEETs exist a lot. Not doing anything productive can make you feel worthless pretty quickly. Add relationship problems, hard work ethics and other things and you have tons of reasons why people want to off themself. When you listen to suicidal japanese, they often say they just want to dissapear, like fading out of the world without bothering someone. I guess this is why Aokigahara is so popular.

Take the american suicide spot, the golden gate bridge for example. Setting up police there would only cause people to suiced somewhere else. The location is essentially not needed.

The guys I used to work with had a great sense of humor that made the job go by a lot better, but you don't know what hell looks like until you walk into a bathroom with a guy who slashed his wrists and sat there for a month soaking in stagnant dead body water because nobody checked on him.

If I stay as healthy as I am now I can probably keep up the same general life I'm living now for maybe 4-6 more years at most and be satisfied at least. If I get anymore disabled by life than I already physically have to the point of not being able to enjoy it freely anymore since I'll always be in some sort of painful disabling discomfort that makes me live like I'm walking on eggshells then what would even be the point in living anymore besides doing so just to do so. and then as you get even older like 29+, it's only going to get worse.

The problem of the american education system is that it produces people who are dissatisfied with life and disconnected from the ability to work.
Before appraising the mental health of the nation's subjects maybe worry first about having an education system that actually prepares people for their life.

tl;dr: The american system makes people stupid correctly but it doesn't fulfill even it's primary purpose.

That's actually not true. It might be different for that forest, since there's a lot of prep work involved in killing yourself there, namely traveling to the forest. But for suicide in general, most suicides are impulse decisions. Few are premeditated.
In England, coal gas ovens used to be a very popular method of suicide, as it was very quick, easy, painless, and most importantly, convenient, and accounted for half of all suicides in the country. When government phased out coal gas ovens for natural gas ovens, instead of seeing other suicide methods gain popularity, as one would expect from the "they'll do it one way or another" mindset, they saw the rate of suicide overall drop by a third, which means about 85% of people who would have killed themselves via oven, instead of killing themselves some other way, just didn't kill themselves.
Of course, there's still going to be a number of people who are determined to kill themselves, and will do it one way or another, but the majority of suicides can be prevented by as little as a single obstacle. Even those suicide prevention signs are enough to drive some people away.

Legitimizing suicide causes more people to kill themselves, which impoverishes society. Think about all the taxes you could have paid over the next 40 years. It also normalizes suicide and encourages a passive attitude towards suffering (die or don't, who cares).

Besides being a huge money pit and the morality question, it's a matter of vested interests lobbying (bribing) the government not to step in.

In Japan, your life insurance cashes out just fine even if you kill yourself after a waiting period.

Economic problems are a major factor driving suicide and some of those folks have a sizeable policy. After they die their loan shark gets money and their family gets money. Indeed, the destitute may be forced into it by their shady lenders.

>> No.13483329

The worst part about suicide is that you can't really tell anyone you want to kill yourself. I made that mistake, trying to talk to someone, and wound up getting forced into a psych ward by police.

It's essentially like being in jail in the sense that you're told specifically what you can and cannot do, when and what you eat, what you do, and what drugs you take. You're under constant surveillance, anything that could be used to injure yourself or others isn't allowed. This meant no pencils or paper, so I couldn't write. The only TV was ancient and hooked up to a VHS player with about a dozen movies from the early 90s and late 80s. I was institutionalized two years ago.

Because I was a 'danger' to myself, I wasn't allowed to make any of my own decisions. In fact, I was treated little more than a child. To make things even better, no one actually gave a fuck - it was all standard detached, distant doctors and nurses that would talk to me five minutes every other day. The only time I had a conversation that lasted more than a couple minutes with anyone over two weeks was with a social worker who treated me like I was legitimately retarded.

Managed to get out by lying my ass off and pretending to be fine. Any therapist worth his shit would've been able to spot it easily. And to top it off, I got an absolutely massive bill that I have no hope of ever paying. Nothing to make depression and suicidal thoughts better than crushing debt.

What's the point of all this? People get up in arms over suicide and how it's 'wrong' and all this other bullshit, but really, no one gives a single fuck. It's little more than a social or ideological stance people have. It's bullshit like that that's keeping assisted suicide and euthanasia from getting decriminalized and accepted.

I can somewhat relate. But before heroin, you might want to consider acid or mushrooms instead. They can provide insight and enable you to see things in a new/different perspective. You can wake up the next day feeling like a whole new person and you can start afresh. You might want to read up about them on erowid before doing anything though.

I've been locked up in a psych ward just like you and not after "telling someone", it was after actually fucking trying to kill myself and failing. Spent two weeks on the hospital with a tube down my neck and then got carried straight from the hospital to the ward on an ambulance. I hid a cellphone/charger in my underwear so I wouldn't die of boredom and I STILL got to leave after just three days.

But I don't know, I'm not american, maybe they're less lenient over there. Although your depiction of their treatment of patients was spot on even on my shitty third world country.

I don't really know how massive debt will be an upward force in such a persons life. Sure it's a cost that needs to be paid somehow, but isn't it silly to bring down the person even further, ESPECIALLY if they were trying to get rid of themselves? What makes you fucking expect that it will be a net benefit to society if you don't even fucking understand the situation or the patient. Even worse if you can't pay it and your relatives or someone also suffer because of that.
