Why didn't they find another editor from the start? I bet they all knew he would pull this kind of bs from the start. I don't think there is a need to drag on this project any longer. It must be hard for the people who are actually waiting to play the game. Everyday someone from Fuwanovel goes to the IRC and asks them when it'll be finished. Moogy answers most of the time by saying "tomorrow", according to them.

>> No.13890872

Good question, since he pulled the exact same shit with Grisaia. You'd think in the three years they've been working on this game they could have just replaced him with an actual competent editor, but TLWiki is just a weird cult of friends who do things "for the lulz" and don't really care about releasing patches.

He might be hardworking, he might not, but the one thing that can't be denied is that he's a master shitposter.

Last I heard through the rumor mill, he was actually in serious fucking hot water over the Frontwing thing. >I used to not care about translation quality as long as the text is readable.

Absolutely disgusting. I know the reason why some people think like that - desperation and knowing you're not getting anything better, but I can't still accept it.

Over the last five years I learned Japanese to a very satisfying level and I can easily enjoy any VN I want without subjecting myself to terrible fantranslations or having to wait forever for those few official releases. And I don't mean a pseudo-reading with constant use of English dictionary like some Fuwanovel stars promote.

Just giving you an example that it's possible to learn Japanese. You probably waited years for all those "kamiges" and there are million other good VNs you never heard of anyway, and it's not like they're not going somewhere, so just give it some consistent effort, cut yourself off from all these cancerous 4chan/Reddit/Fuwa etc. threads, where everyone only shitposts about VNs they didn't read and about the terrible machine translations they use, and you'll be able to learn Japanese.

MG updated the translation status of their projects. I'm assuming that Pygmalion and W Happiness are inactive until their translators complete their current projects. Higurashi Chapter 2 jumped to 77.60% translated. Haruka is now 25.1% translated, so Aru is keeping his pace. And the all-ages SonoHanabira game is already at 90% translated.

>>13891869
This is excellent advice for a lot of people here, as I'd imagine the majority of the VN readers around this place don't really do anything else besides read VNs and wait around to read more VNs. However, just to give another perspective, there are people like me, who have plenty of other games to play and other such things to do, and as such are pretty content with playing what's available not learning much more than some simple Japanese. So to me, this is just a place to hang out for some "truly epic lulz." Every so often something like Subahibi might come out and I check it out and have a good time. Incidentally, I haven't even wasted my time on stuff like Ixrec's work. I've pretty much exclusively played VNs with well-regarded translations, such as Umineko. I'm more interested in why it seems to always be BLACK lilith titles. I have zero interest in those, but I would be paying for the other standard titles. (Even more so if they localized the single Lo-Lith game)

For Lilith themselves it must be a bad deal to only get to sell to the niche market that wants rape and abuse titles. You are pretty much trying to sell Rapeplay to a Rapeplay incident region.

>> No.13892299

I recently read an interesting article here in Sweden. Some guy obviously deserving jail for being part of a circle that created CP on demand happened to also have porcelain dolls with genitals. Supposedly they were slated for destruction, but did not become part of the actual case so it is not confirmed to be CP but the prosecuters believed they should be clear CP.

It makes you a little worried that they had that as a goal, but court luckily didn't let them attempt that. Remaining a gray zone is better than illegal.

Sales do not depend only on your own titles. It depends on your competition. So far English market has barely any competition at all.

At which point you should be aware that any torrents you downloaded will get you fines, and any loli you've browsed past will get you jailed. Not to mention Big Brother would track your phone to know exactly where you are at all times.

Getting caught with loli these days usually require you to use the postal office, be a part of a real CP ring, or travel with a PC that has loli shortcuts.

While I don't like machine translations, I don't think it's a bad thing that they exist. Any competent translator who is put off working on a game by the existence of a machine translation was not going to finish their hypothetical project anyway, because if anything they should be more motivated to give the game they love the translation it deserves. At worst it leads to more interest in the game, and that's actually a good thing. Many games will simply go untranslated without machine translations, but machine translations could possibly lead to legitimate translations.

The adult version had some engine related issues, so we've updated to the latest version of the engine. The fan translation used a hacked executable, but using that would break the engine licensing rules, so we've gotten official support for a properly localized engine. Changing versions has resulted in a bit of a bug hunt, not to mention that there's been some outstanding bugs and minor issues in the original fanTL. We've been busy going back and forth between the project staff and frontwing to prepare test builds, finding bugs, and then fixing them. It's frustrating that it's taking longer than usual, but work is wrapping up shortly and the end result should be a better and more solid end product.

I don't dislike the people working for Sekai, I've worked with a number of them in the past and they're all pretty cool, including Dovac. They all seem enthusiastic about their work and want to do a good job. It feels as though they have challenges related to communication though, and they have apparent issues related to the quality of their work, which I'm worried they may not be acknowledging with how they appear to tune out all the negative feedback. Hopefully they can get those issues straightened out.

Which is bad, since kickstarter backers expect constant communication and transparency. And at least with Clannad and Grisaia, the details of the releases didn't seem to have been worked out before the campaigns started, which led to surprises like potential DRM and the OST being released by Frontwing directly, etc.

Three words: self-lubricating anus.

... yeah, that got rewritten to something bit more believable. Seriously, more nukige need to approach anal realistically: with a very long, uh, "introduction" and a copious supply of lube. As someone who's worked EMS before, I've had to treat the results of improper lubrication before firsthand. It ain't pretty. Lots of blood. Lots of crying and dropped spaghetti.

As for SFX "translation", it's really subjective. I can read enough hiragana/katakana to sound out SFX myself, so that helps some, but then you have to deal with the issue of people's tastes. Some people insist on "Nn...", others on "translating" that to "Mm...". Then you open up the game alongside the scenes and you realize that the voice actor is definitely going "Aahn, aahn, aahn!" on that line and you just kinda sigh and glare at the world in particular. And THEN you realize that most people tune into the fact that it's a sex scene and have tuned themselves out to anything in the dialogue box, and it just makes you depressed.

Where things actually get tricky is when speech gets modified, especially when the character slurs part of their sentence but not the rest—say, when bobbing on and off a dick. There's a finicky balance between matching the VAing, changing enough letters to inform the reader that "this speech is modified", refraining from changing so many letters that they can't figure out what the word is supposed to be, and keeping in line with reality as to what what can and can't be said with an obstruction in the mouth.

It's a science, not an art, and while I have made a table of phonemes by now, I keep coming back to it to make adjustments and add exceptions/modifications in the case of common words, especially short monosyllabic ones.
