Elona+ is already in /Roguelike/

As a matter of fact, I found out about Elona there. /rl/ moves a lot faster than than /jp/. So if you ask "How do I shot web?" it will be answered quickly too.

Actually a lot of generals diverge, there used to be a JRPG general, and still separate neptunia and SMT general, even persona general is separated from SMT general.
Elona general used to be a thing for a while as well, it moved faster and had larger threads than these in /jp/.

If the threads can't keep up, then they die out and fuse with another general, in this case it would be rlg.

>> No.14165605

>>14165561
This, if you want a quick answer the guys at /rlg/ can help out. I remember when that general was almost entirely DCSS posting, so it was pretty bizarre to see Elona+, a weeb rpg-roguelike hybrid, take over the thread for what must've been 2 or 3 months. The game still seems to get peaks of popularity during some weeks but last time I checked it was mostly Poschengband and C:DDA. I'd recommend anyone who really enjoys Elona+ to try out any of the games at /rlg/, that is if you can digest the ascii interface. I think it's fine that we have the Elona general here in addition to it being included by /rlg/, and I don't think it needs its own thread in /vg/. Both threads supply enough information and discussion in my opinion, and this one's pretty great for the roleplaying aspect of the game, albeit slow.

How am I doing? I picked up the cooking skill for my loli and I've been having breakfast everyday.

I was originally going to make a ranged character but I picked up a really nice sword. Should I focus on ranged for now and get the traveling skill next or should I go for 2H/tactics?

>> No.14165759

>>14165739
The experience from travelling is really useful early on, specially once you get to move between towns often. If you really like that sword you should perhaps stick to it and get tactics, but ranged is pretty good too (I find it less tedious to fight with too) but it's up to what you like more, really. You can always go hybrid too. If you feel things are hitting you too hard then I'd suggest training ranged first and melee later.

Rods of domination can be obtained here http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Miral_and_Garok%27s_Workshop
I'm not expert with rods but I think you should only attempt to use one if your magic device level is high. They cannot be recharged.

At your current level it's normal to have somewhat crappy potentials, the stuff required to boost it is harder to get at that point of the get compared to later on.

I've been getting less time I could spend playing since I have a job now and I'm very thankful that overdose exists, wish I found about it sooner.

From my own observations regarding pets cooking for you, it seems to require two things for me:
- You need to wake up 'Hungry'
- Sleep between 9pm - 11pm

That time frame seems to apply with pets making equipment for me over the night, although I'm not sure if the kind of equipment they make is determined by their race/class/sex (my female Wizard of Elea seems to only make things that go into the Arm slot).
The stuff they make is pretty high Godly tier though, which is a lot better than much of what you'd find early on, so having pets get up to Soul Mate a soon as possible early on can really help out (one of the arm equips the Wizard of Elea made for me was made out of dragonscale, for example).

>> No.14177850

>>14177798
I got it to trigger when I wasn't hungry upon waking up. I wasn't bloated or anything, but if satiation is a factor, you don't need to be strictly hungry.

I was also going to sleep after midnight. While that's probably a good time to go to bed, I think when you wake up is the bigger factor. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure it's impossible to control how long you sleep for.

On the note about my Little Girl being the main chef - she was the first to hit Fellow, and the first to start making breakfast after waking up at dawn. Even while my Wizard of Elea hit Soul Mate before she did, my Little Girl continued to be the only one to make breakfast - perhaps in this aspect it looks at whose Cooking skill is the highest out of all the pets you have active? From a few threads ago someone raised the point about magic device being a possible build, so I messed around a bit to try it out.

It is absurdly easy to level compared to magic since you don't have to grind individual spells. Might be the easiest skill to level out of everything.

Get yourself some stacks of potions, get yourself a populated ranch, and spam alchemical rain amidst all the ranched pets. Watch your MD and Alchemy skills shoot up.

Damage is comparable to spellcasting at higher levels - especially with the Quick Use hex giving you free turns. However, as far as I've noticed "Enhances your spells" equipments don't seem to help MD damage, so regular spellcasting can beat it in damage if you've got gear like that.

You don't have to worry about spell stocks but you need to be on constant lookout for carpentry materials. This is a fairly significant problem early on but becomes inconsequential late game where you'll be swimming in materials. Generally it's best not to waste carpentry materials crafting rods to level your MD early on - use the potion method instead.

Downside is the increased baggage you'll have to carry because you have to carry stocks of rods with you.

A MD-focused character or MD-only character is definitely viable, and in my opinion might be the least grindy way to get some high damage given how broken the Alchemical Rain training method is. However it does get outclassed in damage later on. I think it's a solid alternative to spellcasting for anyone looking to do a hybrid but don't want to grind spells or just looking to do something different.

Sounds pretty interesting. Is it really that easy to train MD? Rods are easier to use than spells, but I've noticed that some buffs (like speed) are also more powerful than the level 1 spell counterparts. If MD also raises quickly, then it can become indeed quite useful.
Can you elaborate a bit about how MD gets outclassed by spell damage later on? Is it just because of enhancing spells equipment, or MD levels poorly in terms of damage output?

Are you sure that "It enhances your spells." doesn't help MD damage? I ran a test and reached a different conclusion.

Currently I'm playing Elona Custom 1.50.1. Character has 616 Magic Device Skill and 681 for my Magic attribute. I decided to sandbag a rat and to take off all my equipment so that I can narrow down what's affecting my damage. Fully unequipped I was doing 12-15k damage with a rod of magic missile. When I equipped the Otogiri, which enhances spell damage, I noticed my damage jump to 22-24k damage. Finally, when I added the Mag Abyss my damage jumped to 34-40k damage.

Both equipment didn't give me any bonuses to my magic attribute so I think all my extra damage was coming solely from the "It enhances your spells." thing. Is my conclusion wrong/is my test flawed somehow?

Yes, MD is really easy to train with the alchemical rain method. At MD around Level 200, I was still getting about 0.15 to 0.20 every cast of alchemical rain. I generally tried to have potential on it above 300% at all times.

I made a generalization regarding MD damage based on observation that "it enhances your spells" modifier didn't seem to affect MD. Since another anon pointed out that his tests see that it does help the damage, I did a retest and seems like I was wrong before. Must have overlooked something last time.

>>14188704
You're absolutely right. I have to admit I didn't test it very extensively or so thoroughly. I had all my equip on and I just ran a few quick tests against some monsters. All I did was save/reload and use a rod against the same monster with/without my weapon, and it seemed to do similar damage across ~10 tries.

I just did a test on a sandbagged rat and MD ice bolt and magic missile damage goes up when I equip Mag-Abyss.

I guess that's what I get for being lazy.

There isn't really a good way to do it. Are there specific skills you are looking for? There are higher level substitutes but you'd have to dominate them rather than monster ball since higher level balls are really hard to get.

Let's talk mounts.
I did a bit of research the other day to find what creature had the best potential as a mount. We are talking potential here so stats/skills are not important since they can be ground.
Instead I focused on uniques tags and abilities that gives what I look for in a mount (in order of importance): speed, durability, damage/support (buff, debuff)

cResEle (near immun elem except magic)
cMetal (90% physical res)
cArmour (75% physical res)
cLayHand (big ass heal)

synchro hearts (boost+heal+regen)
gold rush (tons of buffs)
megid flame (cast elem scar)
run wildly (speed buff)
browbeat (debuff 50% dmg)
lulwy's trick (speed buff)
boost (speed buff)

After checking a fair amount of mobs on the wiki those 2 stood out:

xeren electric tank (and evo): cast speed, cMetal, cFloat, cHorse

black seraph (black angel evo): cast speed, boost, lulwy's trick, cFloat, cHorse (i think)

and I'm at 275

>> No.14195532

Wiki gives

Speed = MountSpeed * 100 / limit(100 + MountSpeed - MountStrength * 1.5 - PlayerRidingSkill * 2 - 50 * cHorseBit, 100, 1000)

I dont really know wtf is going on with the limit and numbers without operator but toying a bit with it i got

speed = 405 * 100 / limit(100 + 405 - 149 * 1.5 - 63 * 2 - 50 * cHorseBit, 100, 1000)

speed = 40500 / limit( 155.5 - 50 * cHorseBit, 100, 1000)

Now let's ignore the weird stuff, and assuming the creature doesnt have the cHorse ( meaning 50*cHorseBit = 0)

40500 / 155 = 260 speed

I think we can assume the xeren tank doesn't have the cHorse flag. My error was to think that since it's from the behicle race it automatically has the flag.
Maybe was it like that in vanilla ? But again there was only 1 npc in the bike race.

Also the cHorse flag gives a flavor message when you use riding if you want to quickly check.

I think eventually an anon figured out how the stats could be theoretically gotten via fishing with Super Lure, since you could grind everything except strength given enough money.

It did seem like a very min-maxy play style so it's not clear how attractive that would be for a typical player over the usual herb farming but at least it suggested that no herbs is doable for raising stats.

My experience has been different. My melee pet, the Valkyrie, probably does the most consistent and, on average, highest damage in the party leading her to steal kill. She does around 90k in normal dungeons and in the void 30-50k. My character can beat her in damage through spells but I have to jump through more hoops to do it. My gun usually does 3k-20k in the void and maybe up to 60k in normal dungeons. I'm currently training up an Exile as well. Her damage is a little bit less than what I'm doing with my gun but she still has lots of room for improvement.

Considering my Valkyrie is a two hand warrior, I highly doubt my gun damage will ever beat out her damage due to how damage multipliers are calculated. The final nail in the coffin is if I decide to equip her with a proximity assist item. Since she's kill stealing from me and my Exile which are trying to train, I've decided to leave her at home. She deserves a vacation anyhow.

>> No.14218048

Oh I definitely know that her kill steals are due to how powerful she is. I just wanted to share that a melee pet can do very well. I also wanted to point out that while a range pet can probably do well, I don't think it will match the damage of a two hand melee pet at the very least. Ranged damage sources: Perception, Marksman, and maybe Firearm/Bow skill. Two Hand Warrior Damage sources: Two Hand, Tactics, Strength, and Weapon Skill. The Two Hand warrior has me beat in sources of things contributing to damage. Dual wielding I don't know about but the fact that you are hitting multiple times with 2 or more weapons with their own invokes and abilities. I would think the damage would add up quick and either match range or overtake it.

Regardless, I didn't pick up the gun for the damage. I picked it up for back up damage and not having to deal with some of the problems melee users have to deal with. A pet with a range weapon I imagine would also benefit the same way. What I'm liking about pets is that I can kind of peer into the future of certain builds because they grow so fast. Like I can maybe get an idea of how an endgame mutant would be like if I had a multi armed pet.

Those numbers I'm seeing on Yumeria are very upsetting to me. Basically her damage scales solely on her casting skill, correct?

>> No.14224369

>>14224004
Her casting skill is definitely one of the major factors in damage calculations. However, the spells technical section of the wiki also leads me to believe the magic attribute plays an important role in it as well.

I wouldn't judge Yumeria, my exile, in relation to Yuki, my valkyrie, in regards to damage at the moment if that's what you're doing. They are worlds apart still. Yuki's tactics is 1074, two hand is 1077, polearm is 873, and strength is 2000. Meanwhile Yumeria has 865 magic and only 358 in casting. As stated above, lots of room for improvement for Yumeria. Now that I've recently completed my task of using AP to get her speed to 800, I'm beginning the process of farming AP for bonus skill points. I will use said bonus skill points to boost her casting skill to be more on par with the numbers Yuki is sporting on her skills.

Now, the casting skill is used to calculate spellpower. The wiki states for pets that their spellpower is calculated at Casting * 6 + 10.

http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Spells_%28Elona%2B%29/Technical

So for Yumeria, Spellpower = 358*6*10 = 2158. Spellpower, along with the magic attribute, feeds into a spell formula to get your damage. The exile tends to use nether arrow and dark eye so for this example we'll use their spell formula which is (Spellpower/80+1+magic attribute/18)d(Spellpower/18+9).

Plugging in the numbers and hoping I did my math right, her damage looks around 76d129/max damage of 9804. In the picture in my previous post she was doing around 2-6k so 9804 for max damage is believable to me. I'm ignoring the 24k spike damage since my nightmare spell maybe made the Elea fall below no resist leading her to take extra damage.

Now assuming Yumeria gets 2000 in her magic attribute and raises her casting skill to say 1077, her damage will be around 193d369/max damage of 71,217. I'm pretty happy with this and this is even before I add in the what ifs to the damage equation. Such as what if the 2.5x damage from "it enhances your spells" affects pets too and what if it's true that exiles have double cast. I think they have double cast but I'm not sure.

Anyhow, if I'm not missing anything and if I did my math correct, the forecast for the Exile looks pretty promising.

>>14224369
