Kumiromi is the defacto best god as of 1.55 because of his absurd stamina boost. This is going to change in an upcoming version (see below).

https://arch.b4k.co/jp/thread/14806719/#q14810101

This is someone translating part of the Japanese changelog - hasn't yet been implemented in the English version.

>[Changes and additions]
>- Added 6 high-level members to the Shell race. Added 1 evolution pattern.
>- Doubled the effectiveness of the passive ability from worshipping Mani.
>The ability from Opatos has been made to affect more than physical damage.
>Yacatect's ability will now also increase the drop rate of regular items.
>Speed increase and speed cap for worshipping Lulwy also increased.
>20% of max health added to formula for Prayer of Jure, but only for the player.
>- Made it so that Mist of Silence effect will not show up even when out of sight."

There's good reason to believe, in my opinion, that the other god perks will get buffs to put them on par.

>>14882151
The rewards for worshipping. Saves between versions work just fine, although if you move from Elona to Elona+ there's a bit of a gameplay power gap because Elona+ is like steroids for a vanilla character. Always backup just in case.

If anyone is interested, up5563 contains a map with a cat god custom NPC and a summoning crystal. I've summoned her into my game a while ago, but I haven't seen her yet. She's near the center of the map at the dirt patch and follows you around. She has superb resistances against mind, darkness and nether with little against all other types except magic — the usual no resist. She's proficient in swords, martial arts, bows, evasion and medium armor. The summoning crystal is top right where I'm right now. The map is build like maze. Just mine your way.

I just visited the lvl 34 dungeon which popped up right next to my home. Thought I could give it a try and lo and behold I found her. You find summoned custom NPCs in dungeons relating to their own level. As for the speed, yeah. Since her race is catgod the god recruiting penalty applies. It reduces their stats to make them less overpowered. Forgot that one. If you plan to get one use a monster ball. I've casted domination around 30 times and always got the "nothing happens" message. I just squeezed her almost to death and used a monster ball.

I always start at 400 and train down to 200. Won't actively train with less usually for sanity reasons.

There is also one spell that I have that doesn't allow me to train below 200 potential curiously enough. This spell is magic dart and this happened around lv 800 or so of it. I'll get to like 210 potential and whenever I cast magic dart I won't get any exp like I would with other spells. Have to raise the spell potential above 210 to actually level the spell and start getting exp again.

My highest level spell is magic storm at lv 1002 and that doesn't have the problem of magic dart insofar as it can go below 200% potential. Makes me wonder if certain spells are easier to reach higher levels than others and the existence of soft caps.

On a side note I see that my pet Akeno has been thinking the same thing with proximity assist. Good job Akeno in making yourself deadlier and crafting something that doesn't just end up on the shop shelves.

>> No.14886355

Magic dart gives 40 exp, and after making it go through the experience formula, it gives 0.99 ( 0.00099 in ingame value ) at 200% potential and 800 spell level, i.e. rounding to 0, so there's nothing wrong.
Also, the maximum level magic dart can be is 1590, since after that even at 400% potential it gives 0 experience.

Well, that's not correct since if experience is 0 you get a 1/(SkillLevel/10) chance to get 0.001 experience ( 0.005 if high learning proc ).
But just going from 1590 to 1591 would require something like 150000 on average, so it's effectively the cap.

In a perfect world, the most efficient way to level spells would be to gain one spell level, sleep two days so potential reaches 400 again, and gain another spell level. That would use the least amount of casts and stock to gain 1 spell level.

That way is very time-wasting for the player, though, so you have to consider whether you want efficiency or if you want speed. If it takes you 1 hour to pass 2 ingame days for that spell level, it might take you 5 minutes for 5 spell levels, it's just that your potential will go way down and you'll end up using a lot of stock and MP to do it. As you keep doing that, it will become more difficult to gain spell levels, but then again, you'll have more power earlier.

Especially in the early game as a wizard when you need spell damage, don't hesitate to cast just because you want to be efficient.

God pets like the one you get from earning enough favor with a god? No penalty and most if not all are useful in some way. They make good pet candidates.

As for an actual god(Lulwy, Itzpalt, Mani, etc) or a pet of the race god with good attributes then the god penalty applies and it really destroys their attributes. They'll be just a fraction of what they were in regards to power. Up to you whether you want to raise one.

The golden bough has a base difficulty of 4080 because the reading difficulty of ancient books is

50 + 50*Index + 20*Index^2,

where Index is (Guild Point - 1).

If the book is blessed, then difficulty = base difficulty / 1.2
If cursed, then it is base difficulty * 1.5

When reading,

if rnd(#of party members? * literacy sum * 4 + 250) < rnd(difficulty + 1), then you have a 1/7 chance to fail.

(The rnd function in hsp generates a number from 0 to the given parameter - 1.)

If you didn't fail, but 10 * literacy < difficulty, then it rolls
rnd(literacy * 10 + 1) < rnd(difficulty + 1) to try to fail you again.

And if you still didn't fail, it'll perform two more similar checks if you have 20 times or 30 times less literacy than the difficulty.

So if you were trying to read a blessed golden bough without reading party, it would take 788 literacy to read it 100% of the time... if I didn't get the formula wrong.

Other base difficulties for comparison:
Dominate: 2000
Wish: 5250
Magic storm: 1400
Oracle: 1500
4D pocket: 750
Water bolt: 350

By the way, turns to read = difficulty / ( literacy + 2 ) + 1
If in a reading party, then turns to read is 1.5 * [ difficulty / (literacy + 2 ) + 1 ] + 5. In other words, it takes 1.5 times as many turns +5.

Black cat is nice to have if you want the best equipment (If she kills an enemy, there's a chance she'll bless an equipment that drops from it with a random attribute, so you can tack that onto a fully crafted fully levelled living weapon, if i'm not mistaken.) Also they get browbeat when they evolve, which is nice
Fairy is great for seeds, evolution has a nice ability to root multiple enemies.
Exile does a lot of magic damage, but Elona custom makes melee so much better than ranged or magic for pets.
Protector has the Lay Hand ability, if I'm not mistaken, which will save an ally from death and is recharged by sleeping (Basically, is fairly useful if you're squishy and you want to have a backup in case something happens). Evolved form has absolute protect, which protects all allies from harm.
Golden knight has the ability to carry a lot of stuff, and can carry furniture, which is nice early but quickly becomes obsolete.
Golden Goose has platinum song, casting a bunch of buffs on allies, so definitely worth considering if you're going pet based (you can self-cast those buffs though, so if you're running with only one pet it might not be worth it).
Black angel has boost. When evolved it gets lulwy's trick, which will make it one of the fastest pets around
Android has the armor tag, which is nice, but plenty of pets also have it. When evolved, they get an ability that allows it to have all allies in range perform a ranged attack on its target, if they are capable of doing so, which I imagine would do a lot of damage.

Basically, consider
Protector (if you don't like dying)
Fairy (seeds)
Golden Goose (Platinum song)
Black Cat (To make the best equips + browbeat)
Black Angel (lulwy's trick)

The rest are only if you like their design, or if you're like me and are specifically going for an army with one of each divine pet.

This dechi. If you gotta have all the cute evolved pets, you gotta do whatever it takes to get them. Personally, I think the moral quandaries only come up if it's helping you get through the story dungeons, a big boss, or the Void, if only because you're cutting out the biggest part of the game (grinding for these encounters). There's a lot more questionable stuff you can do legitimately.

You can keep things legitimate by Astral Penning the South Tyris demigods. You'll get the second-best weapons in the game, more body part customizability, a different (maybe better) set of abilities, and a strong pet that has wallet-sized holes in their pockets.

Also that INI, AP training makes my original pets way more powerful and easier to train than the evolved pets in the lost continent. At this point I think I will just become a deity slayer and start killing them for their hearts. I'm at least thankful for a steady supply, just need to get that good.

I personally don't understand the rush to get the hearts that you and others have. While the bonus to stuff and cosmetic difference is nice, I don't think evolutions are so critical from a game mechanic standpoint. Most of the time, an evolution isn't going to provide a night and day difference to the performance of a pet. With Elona Custom new abilities from an evolution might not be as amazing either since chances are, you could of probably taught your pet something if you really wanted to. Also, if you really wanted your pet to look different you can take matters into your own hands without the evolution system.

Since I don't view evolutions as truly amazing I'm under the impression that one can afford to just wait for them to come.

I never even considered that different elona variants would have varying levels of support for talk files or CNPC. I want to test it but I don't know what spells are being used and since I can't recognize moon I'm not sure if she'd even be rendering the text properly. It's the numbers in the AI section.

aiHeal. "403"
aiAct. "410,410,405,405,414"
aiActSubFreq. "50"
aiActSub. "621,621,404,646,459"

You can find out which ID numbers correspond to what spells in the table at the bottom of this page:
http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Spellbooks

But some are special actions and the wiki doesn't have their ID number listed, so here they are:

403 cure of jua
410 short teleport
405 healing touch
414 magic dart

621 harvest mana
404 healing rain
646 death word
459 crystal spear

I looked it up, and this seems like it was created for elona_omake or omake overhaul. There's the transmissivity value and stuff in it.

Have any of you tried a Snail-Tourist run yet?

I'm doing one currently. I must admit, I'm a little new to this game and I was a little afraid to do it but so far it's a lot of fun. I got pretty lucky and managed to find a really powerful gun pretty early on, so I've mostly been building my character around that. I bought a Yerles Machine Infantry slave in Derphy and it's been incredibly helpful, ironically, Hunting quests have become a breeze because the combined gun power can stop most enemies before they can get anywhere near me. My biggest mistake so far was picking the cat as my first pet, although I have only myself to blame because I wanted to make the game more challenging. I'm making decent amounts of gold just walking between the numerous settlements and doing all the Hunting quests I can do.

My biggest problem so far are the street cleaners. It's easy to avoid them as long as you remember where they generally tend to be and you abuse teleport scrolls, but I find myself using a few too many teleport scrolls and end up wasting my money on them.

After some leveling your casting rate for the spell is at ~75%. Not bad, right? Extra DV for super low prices. Then you stumble upon Hero which is even easier to cast. Why not? It only benefits you to buy ten books. Then Feather. Then basic heals. Those spells plus Shining Wave/Pets should be enough, more even, to get you to South Tyris easy. THEN Element dragons start popping up. Shit you can't one shot that also start using Bolt, Ball and other shitty spells. Good thing Attribute exists, right? Pets don't have Superb#####++++++? Second, any go-to preferences for wishes or gods? I've only played basic Elona, so I don't know if Elona+ or Elona+ custom has added anything new I should be wishing for (or worshipping, for gods) that isn't detailed on the wiki.

Ehektal is 1) the most tedious god to max and 2) imo the least useful. She goes last. Once you have some farms up Kumiromi is stupidly easy to level but most people go for Mani first.

pcc mods allow you to add a large amount of cloth/body/hair etc customization to any and all characters. Item.bmp files change the sprites of items and the basic interface is hideous so you might want to swap it for something else. With enough creative you could even make it so that your game consists only of Edo period NPCs fighting strange and evil creatures.

That said, after installing a shit-ton of pcc (260 pcc_cloth and nearly 300 pcc_etc) files my game has started to lag heavily on startup.

I've seen this notion that pets are much stronger than the PC over quite a few threads now and I guess I'd like to share some of my own observations.

Pets benefit much more from herbs than the player does. I would definitely give pets herbs to increase their overall power however, attributes alone isn't always indicative of damage potential.

For instance, my character Kai has lower attributes than his strongest pet Yuki but I consider much much stronger than all his pets. The damage I shove out is either equal to her power or leaps and bounds higher than hers despite lower attributes and comparable skill/spell lvs (My lv 1002 magic storm to her 1000 skill lv in two hand and tactics). Yuki's average damage is around 50k and her crits are in the 100k+ range. My damage with spells is either as low as 10k or as high as 20 million damage. Also of note, due to how spell damage is calculated for the player compared to how pet spell damage is calculated the player will win. So far I'm under the impression that if you go the spell casting route at least, none of your pets can surpass you in the damage department assuming you take the time to grind out the spells.

Pets get more bonus skill points out of AP exchange than players. A melee or ranged only oriented character can match a pet in power but due the AP exchange rate a pet can probably become stronger faster. The picture becomes strange if you are a hybrid melee or range caster though in regards to skill points.

You see, pets don't necessarily have a trick to level up easily after lv 250ish. The player however does through killing off the high level spirits he/she summons through spells. Due to this, the AP bonus thing of pets does not compare to the player who can make 1000 bonus skill points through level ups in a short amount of time assuming his/her summon spirit stock holds up. Since no level up trick exists for pets, I don't see my pets having more HP or MP than my character for a very long time too.

So in short, the easiest way for a player to become stronger than his/her pets is through magic. Although having said that, a non magic character can certainly control the power of his/her pets whenever they wanted to. It's not like you have to give your pets herbs or take advantage of AP. You can always slow it down. Also, I actually highly recommend you don't let your pets become much stronger than you because a lot of problems result from that. Lastly, you don't need to play with pets and people have done amazing things without pets. The god slayers that came before me that I saw in past threads didn't even run with pets.

Without any magic I believe you can match in power eventually but the pet will grow faster. Pretty much both can reach the end 2000 skill and at that point both of you should do equal damage but the pet will get there faster if you let it. I will put forth you don't let it run too far ahead in the race to 2000.

If someone can't handle the dungeons that their pets can handle the game will force correct the situation where progress for their pet will hit a wall until they catch up. From what I've seen, this looks like a pretty painful situation. If they reached the point where they have to actually wall up and hide inside their bunker until their pets hopefully clear the dungeon floor they really need to cut their pets off. Redirect their efforts into growing their character. Make the herbs go to their character instead and solo things by themselves until they can look their pets in the eyes again and tell them that they got their back if things go wrong.

You want the highest number possible before the multiplier kicks in to do the most damage so Z is helpful. Also, what wiki page are you referring to? I've always been under the impression it's xdy + z * multiplier. So for her, random number between 1 to 150 add 358 then times 183.3. Sorry was accidentally adding the lightning damage her weapon does when I said 100k non crits.

Here's a tiny bit of data regarding herbed food.

I know the wiki mentions somewhere how food that boosts stat growth (putitoros, steamed meat buns, etc.) does not affect the herb bit, and so it's pointless to use those before chomping on herbed foods. However, after one test each of eating 50 herbed curarias with or without stat growth boosters in a hunger demon session, the stat growth boosting foods did have a small effect. I think this is because the base stat experience from the curarias, independent of the herb bit, was boosted.

So, if you really want to be efficient and you eat your herbed curarias all at once, do eat stat boosters beforehand.

>> No.14914560

>>14914495
Possible eureka moment!

If you were to eat stat boosters before eating rare herbs straight, would those gains be higher than eating herbed herbs?

http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Food/Technical

Herbed herbs give 800 + (original food bonus). In practice, that means 800+100 in all stats for a curaria. The "herb bit" is unaffected by stat boosting foods.

The buff for stat boosters "says" it boosts stat growth by 45. I'm not exactly sure what this means or what the disclaimers are, because 45 seems like a huge number. But if it applies to plain herbs like mareilon, that would be 45 x 800 (average stat bonus for a rare herb) in 2 attributes: 36000. Divide that by 4, since you have eight stats and each rare herb grows 2 stats, and you still have 9000. 9000 per 1 rare herb. That's ten times the growth of plain herbed herbs, or, if you eat stat boosters with herbed herbs, it's a little under 2x as much.

Assuming stat boosting foods actually work as they say they do, can anyone point out where this math might be horribly wrong?

Sidenote to the herbed herbs, also: They train speed, which plain rare herbs do not do, so that's an additional bonus to herbing herbs that you won't find in many other places after maxing out AP speed at 800. I respectfully disagree. It's my understanding that the herb bit is calculated separately from nutrition, so it's unaffected by the stat boosters and just given as a flat 800 bonus in all stats at the end.

If it didn't, we'd be looking at 800+100 (the 100 is from curaria) = 900. 900 x 45 (from stat boosters) = 40500. 40500 per one rare herb. and

Found the formula for pet training cost in the comments of the potential wiki page.

CostCheck = (INI, Stat * 8) + (INI, Speed * 10)
if ( CostCheck > 20000 ) {CostCheck = 20000}
Ending Cost = CostCheck - (Charisma * 5)
if ( Ending Cost < 0 ) {Ending Cost = 500}
if ( Ending Cost < APCheck * 50 / 100 ) {Ending Cost = CostCheck * 50 / 100}

So basically, for INI x/y, it gives a minimum training cost of (x*8+y*10)/2.

1002 for my weak snails, 1642* for my weak meshera, and more relevant for a lot of you 1748 for the starting little girl.
*For comparison, a meshera freshly copied cost a minimum of 10038 per training session ! It was worth the trouble.

My problem is the game still keeps trying to stretch these new, larger images. Even though they'd fit perfectly without stretching, it still stretches them to the point they're too large for the window.

The game does not stretch user images in the user/graphics folder. Only those in the face1.bmp (default portraits sheet).

Does anyone know a way to disable this stretching/expanding for default portraits in the face1.bmp?

Note that the game caps custom profile pictures at 40. So you'll have to rename and reorder to get the ones you want.

>4 or 5 rewards lined up
At the strange scientist? Uh... it may be a good idea to spend the rewards on something better. Like kumiromi's gemstone, for example. It's better to just improve the artifacts later on with artifact fusion.

My precious artifacts are all in a pile, and if I get an extra I also toss it in. I then pick the inferior copy and grab it. That's when it turns into something else.

If for some reason you really, really want to reroll artifacts at the strange scientist...

Given the same luck (base + equip + feats) and ehekatl's feat, equipment with the same name on the same day of the month offered by the strange scientist will always have a fixed enchant.

So if you have say 900 total luck + ehekatl's feat, and you check in with the strange scientist on the 5th, then keep rerolling the list until a <Moan of Gay> shows up, it will have the exact same enchants as the <Moan of Gay> that someone sees at the strange scientist. Provided that the other person also has 900 luck + ehekatl's feat and also checks the strange scientist on the 5th.

That's what people say anyway, and apparently it also works on static precious artifacts and their luck-based additional enchants.

Listed here are the days + luck + equipment name + other factors and the extra enchants people saw on some equipment at the strange scientist:

This isn't D&D or anything; you won't really get screwed over for playing hybrid builds. I personally play a hybrid shooter/boyer + caster. You can blast away all the weak mobs with ranged weapons and pet assistance, and save your spells for the powerful or high PV/DV mobs. (You can go melee too, but you get a minor spell casting penalty with heavy armor, shields, or dual-wielding, so ranged weapons are usually better.)

I haven't seen a werewolf for a long time, so this is off the top of my head. There are two ways of killing one - by confronting it and fighting it, or by voting for its execution. For the former, you'll need to be strong enough to fight it. For the latter, you need to have enough fame in town to reinstate voting.

A werewolf will carry a disguise kit. Check the inventory of the townsfolk with pickpocket. There are werewolf detectives too, however, and these are friendly and harmless. They will also carry a disguise kit.

Alternatively, talk to a detective who arrives in town after a couple of deaths. I think there's an insane detective who will claim that someone is a werewolf when he really isn't, and you can fix that by using a unicorn horn. After that he will point out the real werewolf.

A third way is to look at them with the target key. A werewolf is a lot stronger than a town citizen at level 35, so it'll display a different message if you're at a somewhat low level.

I'm not sure if you can just attack a werewolf when you haven't confronted them about it yet. Try it out and put it on the wiki?

Getting the werewolf killed through direct confrontation or through execution should reward you fame and whatever the werewolf dropped. Alternatively, you could keep it alive, then keep executing the wrong people (like adventurers) so that you get their stuff.

>> No.14917459

>>14917450
How do the executions work? Do you just use the accuse function to mark them so you can kill them with impunity? Or does the city perform the execution?

And do you always have to kill them solo, or do the guards ever help?

By the way, it's been so long I have to ask... do quest-related vital NPCs respawn and/or have immortality? Don't want to get screwed over by getting one killed.

>> No.14917486

http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Praise#Revival_of_the_right_to_vote

I *think* they change to a werewolf if you confront them head on...? The wiki says they will, but my werewolf just started stammering and... I don't remember the rest. If they transform, any guards in the vicinity should help. They probably won't home in on it from across the map like they do when you have low karma though.

>quest-related vital NPCs respawn and/or have immortality
Everyone respawns after a few days. Except if it's a story-related death. In those cases, however, you can find them on a map in part III of the main quest. In Gwen's case, she grows up and the old NPC is no longer accessible. Adventurers also 'retire' and disappear if they die too much.

If you're impatient, you can use a one-time use book of resurrection, or cast resurrection. Resurrection doesn't work on adventurers.

What do you mean old world map and new map? As in vanilla elona and elona+, or as in north/south tyris?

Most people crowd their buildings around palmia or yowyn. In both vanilla elona and e+. (Actually, I'm not sure about yowyn in vanilla elona, because herb seed rewards are a E+ thing.) Palmia because of the embassy and it's near the centre of north tyris, yowyn for the gardening quests. Lumiest can be good because of the 2 magic vendors, but you'll often encounter snow mid-way to palmia. There's also not much space to hold the 20+ farms you'll have in late-game.

It's not really worth moving to south tyris in my opinion, as you'd have to move everything like ranches and stuff, and re-invest in all the vendors. There's also no benefit to do so.

You can only teleport back to your house out of all the deeds you can buy, so nyo creating a teleport network! No bump-bump for nyou.

There probably won't be any more any time soon; I already combed the entire Japanese Elona sprite database for (what I considered) the best stuff, and then reformatted and repackaged it for use. But I've already done enough that the game engine is close to its stability limit, and there's already far more than can probably be used (160 PPCs, 100 profile pics), so I probably won't do any more unless the Japanese guys upload something new to the database that I find interesting.

The only other thing I have is a collection of those static, one tile sprites used for pets and NPCs, which I filtered for the largest and highest detail sprites. (Totalling about 100 images, I think the game only supports about ~15 custom pet graphics).
