Scroll down and read the rules at the bottom. Look up yaku and furiten on arcturus, and you're good to go. Remember your hand needs one yaku to become a valid hand, and dora is not a yaku.

Arcturus has about everything you need.

In particular, you can start with this:
http://arcturus.su/wiki/Japanese_mahjong
http://arcturus.su/wiki/List_of_yaku

You also may play games against bots on tenhou before trying to face actual players. See how to here:
http://arcturus.su/tenhou/lobbies-games.html (See the Test Play section at the bottom. I recommend Ari Red.)

Well, after better check in log I exaggerated a little with
>everyone keep dealing into his hand like retards
Sometimes it's hard to judge things after first check when you AGAIN lose by ippatsu tsumo haneman when you were oya. Kamicha and shimocha do nothing (that much) wrong, but toimen was still lucky bastard.

>Throwing out the live dora
I could agree with you, but I cannot. If you think about it, there were no 8m left, so the only possibility is wait on tanki/shanpon. Kamicha is unlikely, because it's almost obviously honitsu. Shimocha drop 8m already and it's unlikely that he could be on tanki/shanpon wait with yaku without riichi. My discards are weird, but it's still was unlikely that I could be in tenpai - I would agree if I call that ton before riichi, but it was after toimen's move.

>Damn. And I thought I acted too cocky sometimes.
Well, it's not so stupid in certain situations, but I think that furiten riichi is better lesbian move than this.

It isn't as though you played perfectly that hand either.
>If you think about it, there were no 8m left, so the only possibility is wait on tanki/shanpon.

Which is the exact kind of wait you don't want to deal the dora into? There were fully live sets of honor tiles more than half way into the round. The dora was definitely dangerous there.

>>15002096

Explain further. And if you talk about that 5s later, ryanmen 67m was still superior to lone 6s. At the moment when I get 4s it was furiten possibility if I end with 36s and ton wait. On the other side 1333s give me very good blockade on low sozu and prevent others from moving their hand without droping 12s (unless some lucky bastard don't get ankou).

About dora I explain you why it's very unlikely that anyone was in tenpai at the moment when toimen called riichi. But ok, assume that someone is waiting on shanpon/tanki. You called riichi here and two turns later draw 9m. Seems even worse to me, because you lose extra 1000 points from riichi stick. And don't even try to prove me than anyone would bail with shanpon dora here - someone else deal this way few hands earlier.

Not increasing uke-ire because of an easily avoidable furiten doesn't seem very smart. If you were so intent on getting the ton, you could just dump the 5/5/7p and be left with two ryanman waits. It also would have given the hand the flexibility to become open tanyao if you gave up on the ton (which would have been good to do when the 4-man was thrown rather than to wait on 2 tiles which could both be in the deal wall.)

There's nothing to indicate that no one is in tenpai at the point he riichi'd. You mentioned the 8-man being all gone, but none of the 9 was thrown out at that point. Since it's the dora, there's certainly nothing wrong with being cautious about it. On the subject of "folding," I don't have to prove shit, because your kamicha folded with a hand of equal value to one you're referring to.

You're just throwing a broken English bitch-fit because things aren't going your way when they had no damn reason to. You aren't owed a win by Tenhou, but you could have perhaps earned one by playing better.

Okay, what is this shit?

I just lost a game where my R was 48.5 points above the table average and my R was reduced by 30 points.
Then I won a game where my R was 71 points below the table average and only gained back 26 points.

Shouldn't this be symmetrical, so I should've won back more points than I lost, since my R was across both tables below the average?
The game where I won had overall higher ranked players as well.
Also the two games were only 3 games apart, so my number of played games should be negliable here.

If you're that curious, you can try manually plugging all the relevant numbers into the formula here:
http://arcturus.su/tenhou/ids-ranks.html

change = adjustment*(base+(average table rate - own rate)/40)

adjustment = 1-(games played*0.002) if games played < 400 | 0.2 if games played >=400

base = +30/+10/-10/-30 for 1/2/3/4.

In any case, if your R is changing by 20-30 at a time, you barely have any games in the first place. So three games difference in your total could very well have a disproportionate impact.

The question is - do you really want tanyao that much here? In worst case scenario this hand is worth 7700 from ron and became mangan with single ura.
With tanyao you secure 1160 from ron, but 3s is more flexible and way easier to use in other hands, so enjoy your oikake.
If you draw tsumo it really doesn't matter, because you need two ura dora to haneman, which is not worth the effort (if you ron someone else it's still mangan).
Of course you also can wait for better shape (riichi+tanyao+pinfu+dora is almost the same as this daburu and give you more winning title), but I don't think it's a bad move (and hey! It's always nice to throw daburu riichi).

6-8-9m
1-2-3-4-5-6-7p
5-6-8-9s

14 tile types, 56 tiles (46 when we subtract the ones he already has in his hand). The odds of drawing one of those tiles is pretty high. If all of them are in the wall it's higher than 50%, if half of them are in the other players' hands it's around 25%.

It's just way too impatient to go for a double riichi with a tanki on a number tile when you have so many ways to improve your wait. Just because 9p is a normally unwanted tile doesn't mean it's going to flow out super easily after you riichi.

Nope, even Ryanpeikou alone is about as common as the more common yakuman hands. What's a yakuman hand is just not based on probability alone, otherwise San Kantsu would need to be Yakuman as well.

>>15031577
Look at it this way: As dealer you're ability to overtake other players is bigger than when you're not dealer. In other words the dealer has the greatest influence on the game. However if you're dealer early it's more difficult to estimate when it's better to defend and when to attack, because you don't know about the exact points you will need. In Oorasu this is easier, and it is an advantage to be in the most influential position (dealer) while also having the most information about how you should play (Oorasu).

Specificity and Restriction.

If you look at yakuman hands, they have to be specifically this - or that. After that, you count the different tile types needed to build them. If there is one thing you'll notice, the count is very restrictive.

Riichi rate is .171, hand completion rate is .233. My hands are generally cheap but I dont have a good number to give. Maybe an average of 4 to 6k points? The exact call rate is .583 now that I checked.

You are definitely calling too much. You should be able to get .230 win with less than .400 call rate. All you are doing is making your hands cheaper.
