If all previous fights between Touhou characters has been through a magical, non-lethal duel of Danmaku, why do fans argue over the supposed lethality of their superpowers?

Reimu and Marisa would be dead just from the radiation Utsuho would omit if she really shot suns at them.

This. Touhou is a game series first an foremost, music second, and actual story/plot/lore last.

People who care about power levels are those retarded kids who was so unfun to play pretend with because they'd invent all that stupid shit to never lose, now they just grew up.

Still youkai using their real powers are lethal, heck in FS we just saw even a bunch of crappy tanuki can kill a human if you take them lightly.
Also Reimu and Marisa during SA comment on the hell being too hot to bear to the point right before meeting Okuu they get the fuck out of there because they can't resist anymore, maybe the youkai helped them somehow (they already lended them their bombs for example so it's not that much of a slippery slope).
