My only fear in relation to PS4 is that it'll become big like the JoJo fighting game and bring a bunch JoJo-fan tier westerners. The Touhou fanbase in the west is already bad enough.

Jojo was kind of always secretly waiting to explode, it just never really got the chance in America because 1) faggot Americans need animes and hate readin mangas 2) regardless, America never even got Jojo beyond part 3 because Araki got mad about them changing the sound effects

As an old time Soku player, HM and above doesn't really cut it that well for me. I can't say I'm much of a fan of the floating thing, last words are often useless and to top it off drain all your popularity afterwards(in 13.5), you only get static 2 supers and all that shit. Decks(if you can call them that)got hardcore nerfed in 13.5 and then removed entirely in ULiL, which were actually a pretty good system in 12.3. Popularity was crap in 13.5 and would spoil perfectly good fights and lead to pop farming. The story mode, even on Lunatic, was a joke in terms of difficulty. To be fair, I didn't play past 13.5, since ULiL wouldn't work at all for me, wouldn't launch, period, but 13.5 just wasn't that great to me.

If you want more solid reasons less based on opinion, it was buggy as shit. Crashes, netplay issues(both connection and lag, the netcode seems to be fucking awful), the works. As many people have said, it was pretty incomplete on release.

Compare to 12.3 with better systems, more available comboability, a bigger roster, plenty of fan tools including frame rollback, etc., it's not hard to see that a lot more work was put into 12.3 in general. I don't hate 13.5(and assumedly the newer games as well since they appear to use most of the same shit), but it has(they have)a lot of glaring flaws that should be addressed.

I would probably address flaws in 14.5 as well, but since the game won't even fucking launch no matter what I do, apparently that's buggy as shit too. Go figure.

I don't think Soku itself is the problem, per se. I presented my argument about why I didn't like HM too much in a reasonable fashion, and used Soku mostly as a comparison to give examples and set a bar for quality to demonstrate how HM did not life up to it's predecessor in some aspects.

I also never went beyond the point of saying that anything gameplay-based I'd said was anything beyond my own opinion. Even if it's technically not the right thread for it, stopping people from talking about Soku doesn't really fix the problem, it's more like throwing a band-aid on it. It's some previous' posters opinions of "this post is bad, and you're wrong, now kill yourself" that is really the biggest problem. It's hard to have a mature discussion with people who aren't, and their attitudes will not only apply to Soku and other Touhou fighting games, but virtually anything and everything under the sun that the can(and will)try to argue about.

I don't hate Soku necessarily, but the entire style of combat feels wrong to me. It's weird to be stuck in the air and always gravitate to the middle. It's like you're attached to an invisible tether. I haven't played much of ULiL admittedly, I stopped after beating all the story modes because the netplay is shit and I have nobody locally would would be willing to play something like this, but just the feel of the game was off to me. It's not a huge, deep analytical criticism, but if AoCF is like ULiL I can't see myself playing it for long unless the netcode improves.

Controls are super floaty.

The bizarre gravity effect bringing you towards center point of the stage. This is both on the X and Y axis. I could understand neutral input resulting in a return to the Y=0 line but being pulled to X=0 makes no sense!

ULiL still has a lot of the flaws that HM had (but thankfully removed that god awful popularity system which just didn't work). The entire cutscene super attacks just provides YOU CAN'T ESCAPE situations. In Hisou or other fighters you can just block out and take chip damage (or at least reduced damage) but a cutscene attack is all or nothing. Which is kinda cheap.

The smash ball gimmick (Let's call the Occult Balls what they really are) is even MORE RNG than the card/deck mechanic in Hisou. This results in just stalling to get super.

The removal of ANY customization, which IMO was a huge thing making SWR and Hisou stand out is really regrettable. While HM really cut down on the customization it still let you tailor a character to have moves you liked or for ways you tended to play.

A lot of characters are STILL overly reliant on their character gimmicks to the point where you're not playing a character you're playing a gimmick. So you either really like the gimmick or you're going to just have to slog through it.

Of course with some gimmicks the AI knows how to use it far better than a person which results in Koishi being really cheap at times since she can do the attack queuing gimmick better than you.

Overall it's a really flawed game. Less flawed than HM overall but it threw out a bunch of decent ideas with the awful ones.

ULiL really felt like ZUN (or TASFRO) played Smash Brothers Brawl and wanted to have 2hu Brawl so he wanted the Occult Balls to be Smash balls .

AoCF feels similar but it was playing Marvel Vs Capcom with the entire focus on character swapping gimmick. It's likely to lead to extremely broken and unfun situations as I really don't fully expect them to implement it well.
