You can go to /ck/ but I doubt you'll get anyone there that doesn't think western liquor is better

All I know about Sake is I had 3 bottles of the stuff and can't remember anything from that night

>> No.17768845

I only tried sake that is usually used for cooking. It was pretty terrible honestly, but I am still curious to try a higher quality one.

>> No.17768868

>>17768845
Like red wine, cooking sake is pretty horendous on its own.

I really enjoy sake. Smooth and naturally sweet nigori without additive flavors is the best.

>> No.17768896

I only enjoy amazake, which is not really sake, but I hate drinking anyway so it works out.

Quality nihonshu can be quite good but Japanese whiskey is where it's really at

Whiskey and beer tend to be their drinks of choice but the native Shochu is still quite popular

This is the only sake I drink. As far as I'm concerned it beats the shit out of everything else anywhere near it's price.

I tried two cheap variants and they both had a very nasty ''sweet rot'' aftertaste, which I suppose is to be expected when buying low quality stuff

The cost on that spiked way too much after it won whiskey of the year, there are good Japanese whiskeys but at that price I'd go for a decent scotch, irish whiskey, or hang my head in shame and drop a ton on decent bourbon (Bakers is where it's at)

warm sake is cheap table stuff. it is heated to help mask the bad flavors.

good sake is always cold.

The brewing process is pretty interesting.
Never tried making actual sake, but amazake and mirin come out pretty nice.

I'd like to try shochu.

So I'm gonna visit my parents in a few days and I wanna try sake. Are there any popular brands? I'm looking for something fairly priced but not too cheap or expensive, and Japanese import. I'm in Canada so the LCBO is the only common place I'd be able to get some.

Chu-hi.

i used to get so trashed on these when I lived in japan.

>> No.17789983

Its hard to get any decent sake in US. Anything drinkable is over prices.

Maybe the US micro sake brewer might have something decent.

I tend to like nigori (cloudy) sake over junmai (clear). The best I've had is Tozai Snow Maiden, but I'm sure better exists.

There's thousands of brands of sake, I have no way of knowing that they'll have. If they tell you what kind of sake it is, just try a bit of every one.

>>17814887
Try the 炉里ピッス, if they are a Japanese Culture convention that wants itself to be taken seriously they must have it and offer it to you.
