Someone post the 6-8 ratings. These are honestly my favorite things from SCoOW. I love reading how the characters feel and it's funny to see what they each value differently.

I don't get how reimu rates things. Why are Kaguya, Eirin and Mokou so high? Maybe this is more ZUN than Reimu or Reimu really likes shut ins for some reason. Normally Reimu rates everything upon how useful they can be for herself. Recently everything with Reimu paints her as a horrible person.

Reimu rates based on pure power or personal use (unless she has a personal grudge like most of her MoF ratings) which is why Flan gets a 10 too. Marisa typically rates based on creativity of danmaku. Reimu is stronger than most people so the rankings are low. Her IN ranks tend to fall in line with her PCB ones, the high ratings at the end are probably because the Hourai immortals are powerful. She gave Yuyuko a 7 like Kaguya too, and if Yukari and Kanako didn't piss her off they'd probably get up around 8-9 as well.

Reimu has always been abrasive. This is clearly game Reimu. ZUN stated in a previous SCoOW that we don't know what Reimu is really like because all his works are through another's POV, including the games. FS took away the perspective of someone who looks up to Reimu, so now we have WaHH from Kasen who doesn't respect her and VFiS from the fairies who like and look up to Reimu, but are scared of her getting mad. We don't know Reimu's "true" personality.

IaMP/PoFV didn't get a rating review it instead had a category award from the main playable characters with them shooting on each other in the same vein of the ratings.

-Feels obliged to do her best at giving a fair award, felt out of all her opponents Patchouli was the most difficult close down distance on.
-Thinks Sakuya prepared all the food because she gives the impression of such a skillful and dutiful maid.
-Yuyuko is her most special person, no other reason. (MUH YUYUKO-SAMA)

-Doesn't really remember anything other than lots of drinking and the oni having a lot of power. Not really worth copying due a lack of delicacy.
-Was interested how the little ghost half movement is manipulated without getting tired.
-No real interest in anyone particular but curious what that human magician will get upto.

-Not sure if you're supposed to dive head first into danmaku but it's an entertaining quirk.
-Suika can have it since it got her to leave the house out of interest
-Gives it to the magician who is good at puppets wonders if she would have a good time with it. (Suika)

-Not bad for 'just a vampire', can't be helped since she is a oni afterall, it's no comparison.
-Holds drink better than anyone she's ever met almost comparable to a oni. Though wonders if it's kinda cheating since Yuyuko's a ghost.
-No contest, just really happy to finally meet someone fun with a spine like Reimu.

Sanae seemingly having the idea that she will betray Suwako and then Kanako someday is fairly unsettling.

Loosely based around the mansion and her own experiences, and how useful she thinks the characters would be for the mansion.

In EoSD she judges based on the mansion heirarchy other than Patchy (she gives her a 2 because she shouldn't have been involved). So Remi at the top, Flan below her since she's the younger sister, Sakuya high because she basically runs everything, and Meiling right below Sakuya. Rumia and Cirno are irrelevant to the mansion so she judges them based on potential usefulness to Remi.

PCB's a little weirder and less consistent. She judges based on usefulness to the manor for the first four bosses like she does in EoSD. She judges Youmu and Ran relative to her as servants I think, and Yuyuko and Yukari as masters. She doesn't seem to comprehend Ran, docks Youmu points for serving a worse master, and gives Yukari points for being the ultimate Youkai. So it's a bit less consistent.

Reimu's PC98 design and her later redesign(s) manage to remain miko-like while not being too similar to each other. ZUN could have taken an entirely different approach to designing Sanae, like he did when redesigning Reimu, rather than just change a couple aspects of Reimu's base Windows design and slap it on someone with green hair.
Of course, like Reimu said, this could have been avoided entirely if Sanae wasn't a miko in the first place.

Sanae being another miko is the entire point of Sanae's creation as a character. She's her evil twin, though since Reimu's kind of a prick she's more like her good twin.

I get the point behind Sanae's role as a competent miko to contrast with Reimu, I actually like her a lot more. My qualms with her being another miko mainly stems from, and really only applies to, her numerous roles as a playable character. It feels redundant to have your selections be between a miko, a witch, and... another miko.

Also, with the other duplicate roles you mentioned, those don't bother me because of how different their designs are from each other. The magicians, hermits, and even the fairies (apart from Daiyousei and some of the nameless midboss fairies in PC98) look nothing alike. I would also complain about the maids looking mostly the same if Sakuya wasn't the only recurring one

Eh, Aya's a pretty huge asshole and had made no attempt to look inward and reflect on herself or her writing until Hecatia gave her a crisis of conscience. She was fully willing to double down on sensationalist lies in AFiEU because she was scared Hatate's paper was going to overtake hers. But she reflected and ended up cancelling it. Not even the Yama got through to her like Hecatia did.

There isn't any question she's one of ZUN's favorite characters. But her in-universe hatred is pretty well-deserved considering the shit she puts out. Paparazzi are pretty reviled in the real world too. It's harsh but it's not like she's a character that did nothing to deserve bullying. Satori's hate for example is a little more disproportionate but satoris are also dicks by nature.

I'm more put off by how much ZUN tends to write Reimu bullying. I understand a lot of this is Kasen's judgemental POV in WaHH and Reimu's mostly an abrasive person with a good heart but he really likes dumping on his favorite character. To the point where Aunn unconditionally rooting for and wanting to help Reimu is an extreme breath of fresh air.

i can't stand Sanae's attitude, a lot of what she does is because she wants to gather faith for her Shrine and clearly does things like making a show of upkeeping some of Reimu's shrines in the village to boost perception of Moriya. she definitely wants to be the shrine maiden of Gensokyo and resolve incidents. I think she DOES truly want to do good for people but definitely does things with a purpose for her shrine. She is fantastic at doing what needs to be done to gather faith and is an excellent miko in that regard.

Her reviews of Kanako and Suwako are pretty unsettling though. i hadn't really considered that she was planning on taking the shrine for herself as a god someday

I might be biased here, but is Aya's reporting really so terrible? AFiEU aside, none of the stuff we've seen from her has been all that bad. There's a few bad eggs, and she's a little too opinionated, but it's not like she's blabbing about people's relationships or darkest secrets or any of that stuff.

This is actually correct up until AFiEU which is the actual first time she does tell blatant lies.

For all the jokes about Aya being a liar she really isn't and Yukari herself pointed it out at some point way back in BAiJR.

The problem is Aya's arrogance which is a pretty Tengu like trait. She believes only in her one truth the one she herself sees with her own eyes. Issue is when she only sees a very small part of the grander picture. So she becomes a liar through omission and bias, but it's not intentional.
