If you're American, how do you avoid violating United States law while reading lewd things?

Personally, I don't read anything unless it has redeeming artistic, literary, political or scientific value.

I'm not from the US but I honestly wouldn't care, in fact, we are all breaking piracy rules by reading doujinshi anyways, unless you wanna buy them on DL site or whatever wwww

It's only criminal if you violate copyright for money. If you do it for free, it's fine.

It's still illegal, just that most of the time no one is going to bother prosecuting you for it. The viewing of underage material is illegal in itself, but LEAs focus their attention on the ones selling, distributing or producing it.

It's a civil statutory tort that they can only claim nominal damages for if they haven't registered their works with the copyright office. 'Illegal' like 'illegal immigrant', not 'illegal' like 'illegal drugs'.

can't

if you're reading doujins you're more likely to be guilty of breaking piracy laws than laws regarding underage nudity. Most state and federal law about the matter do not care about depictions of underage persons so long as the depictions are fictional and not drawn from reference of real material. it will however still ruin your public reputation if you're caught.
