You really should give a look some of Carl Jung's books on that Esoteric topic. Particularly the ones he talks about religious influence as part of society and the very conceit of faith/belief.

Ryukishi seem to be a big fan of his, given how astonishingly similar some of his concepts in general are to Jung's theories, especially regarding the meta elements of Umineko as a whole, which really ends up in fact being a presentable literary collective unconscious.

Someone on vndb once commented on this, the discussion became a bit messy and unnecessarily rude, but his point stood, so I checked it out myself buying a collection of Jung's works in the end and then I just abandoned most of those halfway and went to play Persona, since it was a funnier thing to do and had an... Dubious yet interesting usage of those elements.

If there's anything more to write about Rena then it probably her relationship with Keiichi cause family play a big role of Rena character arc though I think Ryukishi decide to rather not have romance in Higurashi because there's a lot of people prefer Keiichi to be with Mion or even Rika so it hard to happen

There's a section in EP 1 of the manga, where Battler asks George what's going on with Maria after she starts acting odd. The resulting explanation is where I got my information from. Looking back at that section again, I see now that he meant the disorder.
