If you like comfy slice of life stuffs I really suggest checking out this movie. It's only an hour long and you can just watch it on youtube. It's personally the best looking film I've seen.

Holy fucking shit, episode 10 of Million Yen Women got me good. I felt like I had figured out the twist of who it was and why, but it ended up being wrong. I really thought it was his editor. It felt like they were a lot of hints for that but I guess it was a red herring or maybe I was overthinking small things too much. Been a long time since I felt this bamboozled at a twist. I think it hit me hard especially since she was by far my favorite of the girls and she is exactly my kind of type. It seems like she has barely any other roles though, unfortunately. I really want to watch more stuff with her in it. Though in retrospect, I think I kind of like my own theory more than the actual development. It being just 4 fun isn't as interesting as what I had thought out. In fact, the drama seems kind of... pointless? now, but I guess it was entertaining and that's what's most important. Though I have to say, the final ending part with Hitomi did nothing for me. Oh well. Overall it was alright and is worth checking out at least.
Oh yeah, the ED song was pretty nice too. Anyone know what singer that is?

ED singer is Kotringo (コトリンゴ). She has a sweet voice.

I thought that the final culprit is kind of predictable. If you think about it, the culprit has to be one of the girls in order to know if the rules are broken. I was thinking either Hitomi or Yuki, with Yuki being the obvious and boring choice, while Hitomi being the twisty choice.
I agree that the motive is not very interesting, and the ending with Hitomi is weird since I feel that the MC has better chemistry with Midori.

Overall I feel it's still an interesting show and had fun watching it.

yuriko yoshitaka in galileo 2 plays a rookie investigator, 5 yrs later in seigi no sei she plays exactly the same role but now she's a prosecutor

Okay, just finished watching Shoplifters. Someone please tell me why they like it because the dominant emotion I'm feeling right now is anger.

The last ending just seems fucking stupid and irrational. I understand that the people in the "fake" family were deeply flawed, but they were still good people at heart that were fucked by circumstances. Especially the situation with Lin is awful, surely they can't ignore the fact that her original parents were irresponsible and that Lin didn't want to be with them? That she left and stayed with the new family out of her own will? I feel like in real life there definitely would have been an investigation into the real family to see what's up with that. Didn't they not even report her missing for 2 months, if I remember correctly? God. The final scenes with her, again alone on the balcony, mirroring the beginning of the movie but from her perspective, are depressing. And what the fuck is the deal with Shota? If he didn't like it there, why didn't he just leave / go to the police directly? Why get caught on purpose and drag everyone else in? I genuinely feel terrible. I don't see why anyone would like this if they didn't have a misery fetish. I wasn't this angry since the ending of Mother which was equally stupid. I really don't subscribe to this "separate child and parent figure forever and never have them meet again just because they aren't related by blood" that these drama seem to be pushing en masse.

This was my first Koreeda, are his other movies like this too? If so I'll probably pass. I just want to watch something happy feel good now...

I calmed down a bit with this. The actress of Lin is a really smart kid it seems. Maybe I'm underestimating 8 year olds but I don't think I or other kids at that age could talk that well. Might be a Japanese thing too, I guess.
It's also interesting that Koreeda says that he didn't pass the script to the actors, and that they all just sat together and came up with what to say on the scene that day.

ok, i watched this on your suggestion and enjoyed it. i thought it was well done. sometimes i thought they lingered too long on scenes where literally nothing was happening, but each time the shots were so well composed and beautiful it was never really "too much". i also appreciated it was only an hour, as western films of the same tone have no problem dragging you out for multiple hours. this was compact enough you could really enjoy every second, it felt like a time capsule in a great way. it was also amusing to me how many rolling boom shots there were.

I dont think she even said she didn't. Plus she's a child who could possibly be suffering from stockholm syndrome, they're not gonna take her for her word even if she said that.

There absolutely wouldn't have been. That's an incredibly idealistic view of the world that is completely not what the real world is like.

It's not supposed to be depressing, but I can see how you took it that way.

I only saw the movie once in theatres, so I'd have to see again exactly to give a proper answer. But it's a lot more nuanced than that. It's not that he didn't like it there, feelings tend to be complicated. And getting caught like that wasn't exactly a planned operation of his, it's just what ended up happening in the moment.

Because it's a beautiful movie about found family amongst outcasts of society. It's not exactly a happy ending, but I wouldn't say it's as depressing as you made it out to be either. And most of the movie isn't at all like that either. It's not exactly a surprise ending especially for a movie clearly not trying to show an ideal world.

Just loads of random stuff. Each other's attitudes in general. For example the taller guy didn't like his aikata's attitude towards manzai and felt they weren't achieving enough, the smaller guy accused his aikata of being selfish.
The fact that they hadn't really spoken privately in 8 years really came across.
