Terribly sorry if this is the wrong board for it, but I want to know a little bit more about Japanese Knife Law.

Can I take a non-locking three inch folder to Japan? What about multitools? If I can't take some sort of pocket knife, I may have to reconsider some plans. These blades would not be for self-defense, rather they serve as tools.

Picture related, it's my EDC folder.

You can take anything you want into Japan, provided you can get it on the plane. They don't check luggage very thoroughly. I have a bayonet for an M16 that I took with me here.

Is this thing that small?

even if you cant bring it with you, japan has 100 yen stores where you can find many basic tools and shit.
hell, go to akihabara and see those crappy looking electrical stores, they sell shit like tasers, nunchucks, brass knuckles, all manner of knives and swords and shit.
pretty cheap too.

if you cant bring it, you would definitely find it there.

there's a length limit on knives in Japan laws, right? Does it count the handle length too?

If I have a really short knife but a really long handle, will it work

>> No.2113380

With the exception of any type of switchblade, any knife with an overall length of 15 cm (about 5.9 in), with a blade length of no more than 6 cm, is legal to carry. Knives must be concealed and should not be easily available. The Japanese Guns and Knives Control Law forbids knives being used as defensive weapons, but is relatively tolerant toward knives which can be opened using a single hand. For example, any type of butterfly knife is legal.

WOAH! GOOGLE IS AWESOME!
I remembered it being like 5 or 6 cm from some news story where some guy with a multitool was working on his bike in Akiba and he got hassled by LOADS of cops at once even though it was of legal length.
