Best site to look up verb conjugations?

I often don't recognize conjugated words (especially if they are written in kana only)
Is there a site where I can either check the conjugations of a word to check if it is what I think or maybe lists all conjugations that exist in one place?

Or do you think I should grind tae kim until I know everything perfectly to avoid this?
I mean I have to admit I forget a thing or two, but looking it up while reading seems the better choice compared to grinding the grammar down again.

here's the thing. if you're still learning, almost everything you listen to will be partly comprehensible and partly incomprehensible. as long as a large enough amount is comprehensible, you're good. if you're listening to something that should be "easy" (ie you know most of the words and grammar) but you can't pick up anything, you could try following along with a transcript or subtitles for 5 minutes of it or so, then listening again without the subs/transcript, and you're brain will start putting those links together between what words sound like. this is a really valuable technique i think

Reading overly difficult things is mentally tiring, if you feel the urge to take a break you probably need time to recover and absorb from what you just did. Don't fall into the cramschool mindset where you need to do X words in X minutes, especially if you're a neet with the time to take a healthy pace. If you want to spend prolonged times on reading/exposure I'd suggest something more leisurely and ideally entertaining so you don't constantly want to get away with it. Porn is a great example, a rather narrow range of vocab with emphasis on body part interactions, usually pretty simplistic sentence structure, but you are still reading and each different genre will have a set of new vocab for you to learn.

I really can't say enough how important it is just to read easy things. Easy reading is the fluency equivalent to practicing stroke order except it's actually useful and enjoyable. Your recognition speed will improve, your confidence will improve, the association between language and difficulty will disappear and you'll feel better about doing things. The vocab you know will become firmly ingrained in your memory and you'll be able to distinguish the ones you don't know from the one you do. Japanese will actually become fun and clear-cut rather than the murky swamp of ambiguity that is flashcard hell.

Fair enough, I'm not really saying to be picky or anything, just that reading is almost always good even if it's well within your comfort zone. Also something someone hasn't read before already being 100% literate to them is pretty unlikely to begin with, there will be some kanji in there that aren't completely memorized, some atypical speech, or some slightly ambiguous grammar or nuance to cement. Games and comics are particularly nice because you have a lot of context in the form of both story and imagery, making it possible to accept a lot of ambiguity without getting walled or having to skip/pull open a dictionary.

What's a solid way to work on listening comprehension? Obviously it's to listen to things but I'm having trouble finding stuff this isn't outright too hard. Let's plays on youtube are slightly too difficult, and I might just have to bear with that, but things like dramas are out of the question. the point of radicals was to give every kanji one section in the dictionary that it belongs to and not all dictionaries agreed on them
with electronic dictionaries u can search by any piece of the kanji instead of the one that most dictionaries called the radical
so that also added a few new components to some lists of "radicals"
if u look for all kanji that contain 艮 instead of all kanji where 艮 is considered the singular radical u will find more and quite a few are common
to answer ur main question itll probably make some words/kanji easier if u know the most common simple ones but even that might not be worth the time
u can always look into it when u have a specific word that ur strugglin with
i think the most useful kind of shit u can get out of it is details like that the right half of 削 is from 刀 or the left half of 悟 is from 心

It's when you try for an i+1 approach to learning, without really understanding what it entails. So you pick up sentences with a new word you don't know, when the rest is something you do know.

In reality, I don't think this method can really work, not unless you mine dozens of cards with the same vocab in, which means your deck will be about 10 times larger for the same number of words.

The human mind loves to create associations, so instead of learning a kanji, what you're actually learning is the rough layout of the sentence, or even just the anime frame if you're really dumb and put that on the front, and tying that to the word.

Then, when you encounter that kanji out in the wild, you can't read it. You might've gotten it right perfectly 100 times in the context you've seen it in before, but in actual text, it's used in a new way and you can't understand it, because you've never really been looking at the kanji itself.

Back in about 2013 I started learning Japanese with my main goal being to understand anime without the subtitles with a grander aim being to one day live in Japan.

I self-studied on and off for a couple years, and by maybe mid 2015 I could form decent は and が sentences, use a lot of verbs, write full kana and new about 30 kanji. Unfortunately, after that I just kinda... stopped completely. Losing interest in anime was one of the big reasons for this, as I now had pretty much no interesting way to test my Japanese skills. I know no one else who is studying the language and I really wasn't the best conversation partner when using HelloTalk.

It's now that I've decided I really want to get back into studying Japanese again. My main motivation now is just to give me something productive to do rather than sit here and play video games all day. I'm just not entirely sure how I want to restart my studies.

Right now I feel I can recall: * All the hiragana. * Some katakana. * Maybe only 10 or so kanji. * Very basic vocab.

I was considering either:

a. Skimming through the stuff in the books that I've already covered to refresh myself.

b. Start completely anew and go through everything from the books thoroughly.

What do you guys think?

I've been trying to learn the Japanese language (日本語) for a two years. Over the years I had an app called "Dr. Moku" and I had learned Hiragana through that and I had it basically memorized. In the past two months I finally got it together and atleast once a week I'd do a few lessons on Duolingo. So I recently started MIA'ing and am trying to do the perfectionist past as defined on the MIA website. I have a good idea of the sounds of the language and when immersing can usually identify a couple words here and there that I recognize. I have anki and know how to use it

for context I have only read part of the ajatt website but have read the little that's on the MIA website and seen most of Matt's videos. I know how to make sentence cards (basically put the audio of the sentence that is i+1 on the front and on the back put the definition of the one word that I don't understand).

The part that I'm struggling with is how to actually find i+1 sentences in my immersion. I don't know enough Japanese for anything to really be i+1 since I only know a couple words here and there, but in order to learn more Japanese I need to find i+1 sentences so I don't really know how to break into the "cycle" (the cycle being what I just described: In order to find i+1 sentences you need to know at least a little bit of japanese, but in order to learn Japanese you to find i+1 sentences).

I know matt said that pre-made decks are fine in the MIA update video, but since I'm trying to take the perfectionist path (putting off reading and only focusing on listening until stage 3) I don't know of any decks that have simple sentences that would be i+1. Does anyone know where I can find some so that my input is comprehensible enough to find i+1 sentences? If it's important, I'm immersing with simple slice of life anime's like Toradora

Don't use OCR, learn to find radicals and use jisho to search by radicals instead. When you get used to it you can do it quickly. Don't be like those fags who avoid reading manga because of handwritten kanji or imperfect scans or avoid reading books/LNs because the scans are slightly tilted to the right or whatever. Not sure if this is the right place to post it, but technically I would be learning the proper way to convey what I am trying to say.

The tattoo would be done vertically down my spine.

My two options that I would like would simply be:

Well to be a successful attention whore you first need something unique to build your image on and then branch out from there. For example I started by challenging everybody to quiz and saying I can read the most in this thread, then I branched out to anime cards, expanded on that in various ways, built my relationship with other namefags, gave my hot take on things and just became known as a central part of this thread. I suggest you do find your own niche if you want to be as successful as me. The important thing is already having some success in learning Japanese because ultimately that is what the thread is about and if you are a random loser failing to learn Japanese you will fail the same way Toucan did. because with reading you get to take your time figuring out what a word means, while using your own inner voice which you're used to hearing (whether it sounds like a native japanese person's or not -- probably not).whereas when listening, you have about 0.2 seconds to catch the meaning of a word before the next one comes, and they're all in the voice of a native japanese person, which is probably very different from the voice you're used to hearing in your head when you read in your gaijin accent.
