I've finished the first Ne No Kami. Took a while, but stuff came up.

I liked it. The cast grows on you and it manages to do a good balance between somewhat lighthearted and serious/mean stuff. Not sure about its ending though. Feels like the bad ending is better than the good ending. And not because the bad ending is actually kinda good. It definitely isn't. There's a fandisc of sorts that's supposed to explain the motivation of the one causing all of the rather unfortunate events, so maybe that'll put things right. It'll be hard though.
Music was also rather nice. Battle music was also nicely varied so that it doesn't get boring. They definitely put some effort there. The art on the other hand can only be considered as sufficient for what this game is.

Oh yeah, there's also some really weird "yuri" in this. It's no romance, but generally something.. weird. Maybe underworld "gods" like the phrase "sharing is caring" or something, because those sisters really don't mind when their most loved sister gets kissed, fondled or whatever by another sister or similar things. Outsiders stay out though. There's a clear line at least.

So I was playing the Gore Screaming Show, and after seeing the child rape scene in Akane's route, I stopped playing. Fast forward a couple weeks, and I've started having nightmares about the stupid clown creature. Should I continue? Does he get more powerful and scary, or less?

Kiika's route, especially the first bad ending is the peak of the horror aspect of the game for me. If that little bit in Akane's route was too much for you than I don't know if you'll like the rest of the game, though the nee-san and true routes aren't really that much horror. I really like how Yamiko solves everything and her route is the one with the least deaths which shows that the characters really shouldn't have lied to her in all other routes

“Nooo, I’m banging my not blood-related brocon sister every night! Why did I get into such a shitty situation?” said no man ever, except the protagonist of 何処へ行くの、あの日.

The game starts off with an interesting premise: the protagonist is tormented by a vague memory of killing a girl who he can’t remember for reasons he doesn’t know, while in the present there’s rumors going on about a drug that allegedly lets the user dream about their past and possibly alter it. Naturally the guy jumps at a chance to find out what actually happened, right his wrongs and hopefully stop plowing his sister every night. I looked up some anons’ impressions from way back and have to agree that the game has some nice ideas, but the execution is left somewhat lacking. Aside from the drug itself, the game bombards you with a number of different over-ambitious plot elements, many that could even easily work on their own and be used to base an entire game around, but they don’t feel like they’re tied that well together in the end or utilized in a satisfying way, but it’s difficult to talk about specifics without heavy spoilers.

As an example the central drug doesn’t directly have anything to do with later introduced アレ since it’s Ema who is actually important in that regard, while even the supposed time travel part of the drug (when it rarely works) is only used like two or three times in the entire game and not even in the final route, so the whole thing mostly ends up just being a convenience for everyone to experience constant flashbacks in their dreams. The drug's origins are also explained once and then left up in the air. By far the worst offender was the whole side-mystery regarding the cat’s transformation that didn’t really serve any purpose whatsoever in the main plot, as if it was just a twist for the sake of having a twist. And it’s never really elaborated further, a problem that seems to plague nearly all the plot elements. The game only ever scratches the surface level of every single one, opting to instead focus on character drama and everyone being unable to get over their past failures. I'm alright with leaving things open, but in this case it's like the characters themselves almost never really bring up any questions or talk about the even weirder stuff they've already gone through like, oh I don’t know, previously fighting against what might as well have been the literal end of the world, instead mulling over their other more mundane past events that are ultimately irrelevant to said plot. Regardless of the number of mysteries there’s simultaneously going on, the game feels first and foremost character drama driven rather than plot-focused.

Problem for me in that regard was that none of the heroines really stuck out, nor are the daily life scenes very interesting or fun either, and the romance is sometimes sudden with usual shit like confession followed by instant sex. I only got somewhat invested at Kazuha because the romance was a bit better paced there, I liked her personal drama more and probably just because I happen to love her VA. The main heroine Ema’s route in felt off because by that point the player is through other routes with their bigger revelations so you’d normally expect something akin to that from the word go, however it’s only then that the game decides to properly dive into the whole taboo aspect of the already ongoing incestual relationship, whereas the dilemma was pretty much side-stepped entirely in other heroine routes. I suppose the game makes it or breaks it based on whether you happen to like Ema herself as a character, but I never found her one-sided relationship with the protagonist that endearing, nor the protagonist’s struggles with the situation very relatable.

As for music, the insert song’s placement felt really weird. It’s not really played at any pivotal plot or drama moment, or even after anything has really been solved in any way, it’s just there in the middle. Perhaps it was supposed be a “Yay, I’m currently doing relatively normal stuff with my sister for a change instead of fucking her brains out!” fanfare. Overall the soundtrack was alright, but nothing really stood out and I’d have preferred if the game used its solemn tracks more often. Some of the upbeat music feels a bit silly in the middle of all the serious events happening.

General content and route structure wise replays were a bit dreary because you’re forced to start from the beginning of the game for every route and there’s also a handful of new scenes sprinkled around the common part as well depending on your choices so it's not just a flag hunt, meaning you end up switching between skip mode, picking choices and reading new or only slightly altered scenes before entering the route proper. Overall the game was alright, but nothing really left a lasting impression.

quick question to you guys. Why do VNs feel so differently from anime? I tried quite a few already, but I just can't stand the general lack of animation and spare voice acting. These games just feel very bland and lifeless to me. I even tried most of the super well made ones, where I really enjoyed the anime, like Steins;Gate. I also like reading books. But VNs are super hard for me. Did you like them from the start, or do you need to get accustomed to them first?

I guess I can do that after all. One way of doing it is:
OBS without scaling + obs-virtualcam ---> potplayer (open cam as TV) + madVR NGU which I'll be giving different settings per game (art style). The latency feels like ~70-100ms which is good enough.
The huge image is just an example. My monitor is not far enough to use that.

It's been about three years since I've read it, and not sure if you would have gotten to this part yet or not, but there's a gemstone thing that Yoshiki (sunglasses wanderer guy out for revenge) has that weakens Gore and makes it so that he can be fought against. Not sure if you should continue if rape scenes bother you as if I recall correctly there is a ton of it in the game, especially if you get a bad ending.

So Baldr Fist is like Variable Geo but with Baldr gameplay. The AI is kinda weird so far. In the actual tournamet most opponents will use ranged attacks way too much which makes it really easy to get closer when they've overheated and do melee combos. But on the battles during the preparation phase the drones act a lot smarter and will start doing melee attacks if you get close instead of just spamming missiles. Also Anne is really fun, she's like the writer watched Patlabor and thought that it would be great if Noa and Ota were the same character.

Western release of Nanarin just came out and the uncensored art actually looks pretty nice for once.

Couldn't figure out how to repackage the .arc files to make a patch for the Japanese release but it seems like just overwriting Script.arc from the English release with the one from the original release is enough to turn the game into Japanese, though the UI and menus will still be in English.

I had mixed feelings about this, like it's supposed to be one but for some reason when they discussed about their ideals at school Elsa always came with long reasonable arguments about democracy but the rest just went really upset and didn't argue other than "b-b-but muh empire". Also Elsa didn't feel like a "villain" to me, only in the antagonic sense that she was willing to defeat our protagonists but she wasn't portrayed as "evil", she had pure ideals to the point of antagonizing her own father (who did get portrayed as evil and corrupt), there's also the fact that at the end we end up with everyone accepting a mix of both systems, much like how Japan ended up post-war. I think the game was just going for the aesthetics and history, not pushing anything ideologically. I played Mekuiro which is supposed to be in the same setting as this one, I even started the FD but lost interest at some point. It was ok, basically a magic high school battle harem story compressed into a short game. The character roster is so small that when you get to the tournament part of the game for the second or third time it's already boring to read even if the pairings are different. You could probably read a longer light novel series and get a better experience, except without the ero. That at least is pretty good, especially the American girl who got the best confession scene and was such a beast that at some point they fuck for an entire day.

Anyone else getting low fps when emote sprites are onscreen(30 fps with 1 and like 15 with 2+) especially with more than one in study steady? The game does have a lot of flaws thinking about it. E-mote could use some work, I don't like how the expressions go back to smiling by default after every e-mote animation, it makes some tense and sad scenes feel weird when they're smiling over it. Missing voice lines, not many but I've seen like 2 so far. Bad optimization, the game uses a lot of ram even for e-mote and has low frame issues.

So, today I've downloaded my first untranslated vn. It's 3Ping Lovers! Ippu Nisai no Sekai e Youkoso. I'm not an isekai fan, but I liked the tags, and installing it on my new laptop with no Winrar or Daemon Tools or the Japanese locale was a test of endurance, but I did it, the game's running all right. I've noticed that watching something animated can tire me out and feel overwhelming, while static images and text are almost medetative. Just finished binging Demonion, Demonion II and Dungeon of Regalias. Demonion was pretty standard fare aside from the infamous NTR maids, but Demonion II was great. Much better than I expected. It's a much larger and more expansive game in every category, and Caym is a really fun protagonist, much more so than Astaroth who felt really generic. You have a mix of girls who fall for Caym and girls who Caym fucks into submission, you have multiple male support characters, you have more represented fetishes, you have actually challenging at times gameplay, it's great. Dungeon of Regalias was an alright dungeon crawler. Heroines were cute, Orias is better than Astaroth but worse than Caym, gameplay is really simplistic and you can auto the entire game if you want to, plot suffered from the extremely overused jrpg trope of just dumping a ton of exposition and new settings on you at the very end of the game. I got through the entire game right up to the last dungeon only to find out Regalia were an actual thing in the setting and not just the name of the game and that you need to go find them, and then when you do you do nothing with them and they don't get brought up in the final chapter? Felt extremely weird. I'd recommend Demonion II to anyone in the mood for a nukige with actual gameplay but Dungeon of Regalias and Demonion would probably require you to already be a fan of those specific genres.

literally who cares, as long as it's clear a crack is required or included separately that's enough, is what i would normally say, but now that i think about it i'm a little confused. i knew about the virus and that it was nasty but that's about it. did elf specifically share the version with a virus themselves? because if they included it in their dl version from dmm (did they ever use other sites like dlsite?) that would have been problematic. and if they released it themselves unless they were dumb enough to go out of their way to announce they did so later how would anyone know they did it. either way even if they released the virus on their legit dl edition they probably would have had to rerelease a clean version and it wouldn't be a surprise if that got shared later. the version i have is from a few days after release and none of the exe's install any virus, at least on win7, so maybe it's a clean version or a pre-install version if the original wasn't?

just kidding. i installed it in a VM of course and actually looks like i was wrong and it technically works on win7 it just puts the virus files in a different folder for some reason, but it seems the files themselves do nothing. installing it on XP is the same except it places the files in the correct system32 folder, but again they seem to do nothing. supposedly the virus kills daemon tools but even after installing an ancient DT version and rebooting it worked just fine, and i noticed no new background process running
