I've had the same question for years but still have no answer. I want to enjoy cozy moments with /jp/ again like in the old times, but it seems everyone left and I don't know where they went. Spin-offs are mostly dead and aren't the same.

I've thought about founding an imageboard to re-create old /jp/ but I think it'd be populated by the kind of annoying people who treat imageboards like a Discord channel.

Maybe the only option is to finally learn Japanese and lurk Futaba, but I don't know if it still a good place. I remember they had a large red text telling people to avoid talking about politics, and they added a child-rearing board. Doesn't seem very otaku...

The question is: Why wouldnt it end up dead like the rest?
One would have to create something that draws jaypees near the board and makes them post and discuss stuff, but I cant think of anything that could achieve that.
Maybe some sort of funposting AI , or maybe some concept that eliminates generals. Who knows. It could be worth a try.

Everyone just went their own ways. No point being sad about it because we all knew it was going to happen at some point, and trying to get people to join another imageboard leads to another krautchan or infinitychan where it's worse than here, or arguably in krautchans case because I'm not really sure about those guys anymore. The point is its kinda the anti-thesis of this board to try and tell people "hey, let's talk over here" since like you said it'd just be populated by the people you don't want. There's really no way to filter that out.

That being said, Futaba's still kinda trash. 5ch as well. You'll never find a direct replacement for the golden days, and as far as I'm concerned thats a good thing. Spending all your time chasing and trying to recreate the glory days isn't really worth it, better to just move on.

Nonetheless, the idea of idols is still prominent in 2D works. Not just idolmaster, but lots of things, moreso older works and especially otaku oriented games, have idol type characters or have clothing inspired by idol clothing.

This is pretty much the entirety of the rub in a nutshell.
Out of all the insufferable mentalities on /jp/, idolfaggotry is the most odious. Idolatry doesn't promote OC and multifaceted discussion like fictional and hobbyist works. It's more encouraging of image-dumping, petty dissing, and an overall lower level of discourse. And because it is real life, you get real butthurt, real drama, and all that comes with that (doxxing, etc.). And to top it off, many just don't really care about anything non-idol, and perceive random 2D/niche content as less deserving of a thread than their girl(s), if not actively disliking it like >>22329545 .

On the other hand, arguing they aren't otaku is absurd, and I believe it is only done with the hope that they'll be purged from /jp/. If you seriously don't believe them to be otaku, just watch Perfect Blue or go to literally any site dedicated to idol groups. Even on other sites they're more /jp/-tier than almost anything else.

Modern /jp/ is so repetitive. The same threads get posted week in, week out. A designated thread for every touhou character. A designated thread for every popular idol. A designated general for topics that aren't popular enough to be spammed all over the board like the idols and touhou. All of these threads are filled with the same kind of shitposting week in, week out. Sometimes there is new content for all these designated topics (like when the new touhou game was released), but this happens rarely, and it doesn't take long for the stale shitposting to resume. Doesn't anyone who posts in these threads get bored of this shit?

Not at all, but now I think I understand their reasoning.
I assumed the 2ch poster was talking about the buying, selling, modding, and discourse of electric guitars. But in reality, he's just talking about electric guitar otaku trying to practice/experiment with their guitar.

Not a guitarist, but I'd assume that unless they're willing to pay to rent a soundproofed room, or go to a secluded location (where getting power would be an issue), the electric guitar otaku are infamous for practicing within audible distance. Or be fools and try to practice quietly in their apartment.
