How’s the progress on moving to Japan?

Are you going the English teacher route?

Why would I leave my easy and comfy life here and move to the karoshi country? Poor, alone and working 20 hours per day. Fuck that. I’m satisfied with going there as a tourist and that’s that.

YEah, get a Chemical/Electrical Engineering degree so you can get a shitty and alienating job in a highly xenophobic country.

English teachers make more than enough to live comfortably.
>As an ESL teacher in Japan, you can expect to earn anywhere between 200,000 and 600,000 Yen ($1,700 - 5,000 USD) per month
Average house in Japan is 50,000 to 80,000 yen a month. You would have plenty left over to have fun in Tokyo.
>>22427392
Average English teacher doesn’t work that much.
>Schools typically offer 20 to 25 hours of work per week (and sometimes more), leaving plenty of time to travel and explore
What are you waiting for?

Literally barely liveable. Even the lowest paying software engineer jobs in my shitty third world country pay more than that.
Hell, even civil engineers and public school Math teachers earn more than that.

How is that barely liveable? Minus rent ($800) you still have a few thousand for food and savings per month

Considering how expensive food is in Japan, that's considerably little.
You'd probably earn and be able to save up more as an English teacher in Mexico or Vietnam than you would in Indonesia.

The more research I’m doing you guys are right. Some guy said he made more being a waitress than being an English teacher. Even being a good boy and going by the book you will still be poor. Why does it seem like every career path leads to being poor? Anything short of being a CEO of a company or being a doctor, you will be poor. Thought this was just in America but I guess it’s that way everywhere including Japan.

I was stupid thinking I could survive in Japan. I can’t even survive in America who am I kidding.

I just want a new start. I want to eacape everywhere around me. I’m still somewhat young and have no kids or anything holding me back. I thought maybe I could entertain the idea of living the dream. They say to take big risks before you turn 30. My life is a joke and I’m probably going to be stuck in this situation for the rest of my life.

Just don't pay your loans then. Get on IBR. I have like 60k that I'll never pay. I'll be a damn doctor before I make a payment on those and it'll be $0 like it has been for the past 5 years. I also make $70k a year but I write it all off on taxes and my agi is only $18k so my student loans are between $0 and $50 a month.

You can also just do teacher stuff or public service in some way. Even just regular jobs for a government or nonprofit agency count. You could be a janitor or something as far as I know. Also, foreign-earned income can lower your AGI to $0 or at least less than the $18k it takes before you start making payments. Pretty much a free $100k+ if you do it right.
