The touhou metal scene has been fucking dead since 2015 and listening to the latest AGENT 0 song gave me a shot of nostalgia.
I fucking hate that things have to end. Makes me want to start my own project.

Demetori's been pushing out albums up to 2018 and last I checked he was in a compilation album recently though I forget which one. Other than him you're right that its kinda slowing down, but I'm pretty sure that's all arranges as a whole. I honestly can't remember the last time a jazz album that wasn't by the NEETs dropped.

>>22607365
Yes, it's not exclusive to metal, this is just the one genre I'm most familiar with.
Demetori is still up and running, yeah. Shame they also started to get progressively more boring to listen to. That compilation song was a step in the right direction though,

That means nothing. It's selling better than ever and still has two of its OWN *massive* conventions. In fact, one's opening up in my prefecture next year come to think of it, which is new. There are more manga out, more fanwork initiatives, there's a regular magazine and there have been incentives to tie all the disparate music circles together. Kids are into it and talking about it, and it's not just because of memes anymore since most of the series is readily available digitally...

I wasn't joking, Touhou is on the rise.

Music scene in general has been narrowed down to pop and techno stuff more so than previous years. Not many other genres have made it into mainstream attention nowadays.
That goes to Touhou music scene too and it's even more appearent, though Touhou still has tons of typical jap rock constantly being released and less electronic stuff aside from pop. On the other hand, metal, jazz, traditional, orchestra, etc have been losing presence in the last few years.
Compare that to the golden age of 2009-2015 where you can find 3-5 circles for any possible genre and overall has a lot more of presence variety. Now we went from having tons of 2hu metal circles, from mild to hardcore, to only having Iron Attack and possibly UC, and from Tutti Sound, Morrigan, Carrotwine, etc to only NEETs and only recently HariHara in orchestra scene. Just from that you can assume that other genres are dying in 2hu music scene.
I wish someone could prove me wrong and I'm just missing a lot of hidden stuff.

I don't know how eurobeat touhou circles have been in the past but each Comiket and Reitaisai I usually have from 7-10 new eurobeat albums on my to-buy list. So at least that genre is doing very well and there are clear differences in the styles of each circle so new content feels varied despite being the same genre.

I do wish Demetori was more active and that EastNewSounds and ZYTOKINE would go back to the style they had 5 years ago.

Depends on what he's talking about.
Touhou games? Yes. ZUN's booth during WBaWC release was the most crowded ever according to some sources, and Steam release definitely raised the sales significantly.
Touhou metal? No. Most existing metal circles have gone and the interest has pretty much dropped. Even among few ones left I say only Demetori and Iron Attack that I can see still doing fine.

Let's just say hand-played metal is something actual metal fans appreciate. You can tell what he's looking for from the circle name he dropped and bunch of previous suggestions.
I do like Aether and synth metal (not that I'm a true metal fan in the first place, mind you), but I don't think it shouldn't be grouped with organic metal.
I want to say that organic metal is usually influenced by popular metal bands as its appeal compared to synth metal but technically it's not something exclusive.

This is the closest thing to a music thread right now, I need Touhou doujin remixes and covers that ellicit the religious feeling (sic) like these two songs (and the rest of the MoP OST) do especially well. Probably going to sound a bit entitled but I feel like the lack of people uploading newcomer content from Comiket and other similar events makes it feel like theres less than there is.
It's hard to find brand new artists online without already following other artists or just going to Comiket yourself and looking at the catalog. Uploaders are already used to their NEETs and Iron Attack and know just to get those and rip them.
Either that or new artists all moved to places like iTunes or something, I've seen a few big groups put their music on stores like that.

I guess it's easier for distribution that way, but nobody here in the west really keeps track of all of that.

IMO, I wonder, are there any "western" arrangement circles? I wonder how a western Touhou metal band would sound like, provided it was more trad or something.

i actually own this album. took me a long ttime to get it, and i hold it very dear in my heart. That being said, the same can be said about a lot of circles in general. Alstroemeria fucking sucks now and just copy pastes boring ass EDM songs, though they've been on this decline since the DANCEHALL series first started back in 2011. of memories/trois noir were their last good album before minoshima started basically plagiarizing david guetta

Border of Nightmare on Youtube is a metal artist but I think they just do guitar and the rest is digital synthy whatever the terms are.
If there are people who do arrangements in the west its usually just one person and not a whole circle.
I do wish it was easier to keep up with new circles but there's language barriers and if it's not that it's traveling and location and money.
