Writing before you can read is a very bad idea. You shouldn't even think about writing until you can at least read shounen manga without using a dictionary all the time. Writing too soon only teaches bad habits.

Why? It's 20x faster to learn it yourself. Unless of course you like spending two years learning how to write sentences in romanji.
