So I wanted to learn Japanese recently for many reasons and started to take japanese on Duolingo a little over 2 months ago now. After looking up how effective it is, I have seen a few posts talking about how it doesn't teach grammar effectively and teaches illogical sentences. (Which i have encountered only 1 so far which is すみません、私はりんごです. Which means "Excuse me I am apple") But almost every bad review and post dated back to around 2017.

Now it seems since then they added a "tips" feature which seems to pull up a lecture explaining grammar, basic words and explanations as vital as like how -ます is used for verbs how how verbs normally come at the end of sentences etc. And upon scrolling down, it seems the lessons will begin to teach some really core stuff and in depth things such as government, food, honorifics, travel, events, science and almost tons of other things.

So it seems to have massively improved and gives the much needed explanations now (mostly, since some lessons dont have a lecture). But I have a question for anyone who's fully used it.

Is it best to continue using Duolingo to learn Japanese? I have already finished many lessons and am soon to be taking the 2nd placement test, but I'm worried that even by the end of the course I'll still have no idea how to speak in a slightly literate manner. I feel like it's been effective so far, and it has seemed to improve a ton over the years, so I am probably overreacting. But i want to know if the course is a reliable method.

TL:dr: The app seems to have improved but I'm concerned if it's a reliable source.

I hope this kind of post is allowed in here, but here's something really cool I discovered while learning kanji. In the anime No Game No Life the brother is 空(そら)and the sister is 白(しろ), when you put them together like 空白 it's read as くうはく meaning blank space. Hence "together we are blank". I wonder if they chose the names specifically for this.

It's probably not that interesting, just wanted to share >___<

Do the key vocab and select one sentence for each. If it's too much, you can just add the sentences to the back of the vocab cards as an example of the word used in context instead of as a separate card.

You can also just read the graded sets alongside your KKLC progress on your phone whenever you feel like it. Using KKLC shouldn't be that much work. I finished it in about 5 or so months doing 13 kanji a day and all the key vocab, which was around 4500 since I did all the vocab for the first 50 kanji as well.

KKLC by itself is more than enough to get a good grasp on everything. I think it's a mistake doing the full 9k+ vocab, which will definitely be unreasonable to do at a solid pace since you'd end up doing 50+ vocab a day on top of the kanji if you did more than 10.

If you probe around Google, itazura is being used by language learning communities all around the web, across various language demographics. It is likely the result of the new owner directly referencing DJT on the site with the discord link to Mary's circlejerk that the thread itself has seen heavy backwash from shitholes like that reddit subforum over the past handful of months. The old owner explicitly removed references to DJT and 4chan from the site to prevent this mess but that went to shit when he gave the site to a literal redditor.

the end goal is to recognize it as one independent and indivisible chunk which you don't have to think about to process, but while learning compound kanji words it is helpful to use semantic hints from the individual kanji and associate them with the meaning of the entire word
repeated exposure in input context will make the process automatic and before long you will stop thinking about the components separately

2 years. looked through both kklc and kanjidamage early on, but didnt feel convinced by either of them, since the keywords very often align with the meaning of one word that uses kanji rather than with the kanji itself.
eventually i just ended up realizing it made more sense to learn words, since knowing a single character's meaning doesnt always help that much in guessing the meaning of words.

I wonder if they chose the names specifically for this.

how do people normally deal with mining and reviews? i just recently started mining and on average i add like 100-150 new sentence cards a day but i only do 10-15 (sometimes 20 if i feel pushy) new cards per day. i will never get through all of them at this rate

you will probably naturally get sick of it like i did. review those who you habe learned and dont add new ones for a while until the daily reviews become bearable. the trick is that anki shouldnt get in your way of consuming compelling content.

right now i keep my reps to around 50 per day. i have about 170 unlearned cards in my mine deck and i will only add new words when i really want to or once iam down to about 20 new words.

tdlr: dont try to learn japanese with anki. use anki to support your japanese consoomings

>right now i keep my reps to around 50 per day
do you hard limit the amount of reviews per day? that kinda defeats the purpose of SRS, i wouldn't recommend doing that, i set my max daily reviews number at 9999 (and so should everyone else)
>tdlr: dont try to learn japanese with anki. use anki to support your japanese consoomings
im really not doing that at all, i spent the first 1-2 years of studying/immersing in japanese without almost no anki (i just used it for like the first 500-800 most common kanji/vocab then i gave up). most of the stuff i learned i did with just normal immersion, but i noticed a real plateau in more technical and advanced vocabulary so i decided to actually start mining for real now and i already notice improvements

i see
right now im just adding stuff from anime/shows (on netflix using the language learning with netflix extension + mia mining anki add-ons) and vns, it takes me literally like 5 seconds to add a new sentence + definition + audio/image cues to a card, so it's not really a big deal to just keep mining and adding new vocab as i encounter it
the only thing is if i want to watch tv or read manga in my living room, i can't use that but in that case i don't mine

the help part. discipline is defined by standards which are constantly subject to change. if i really want to eat marshmallows right now and i succeed in doing that but fail to give my future self the opportunity to eat more marshmallows, i made an unwise judgment and ignorance about reality. but it's not that i'm damned to "be" undisciplined. rather i just gave into a moment of greed and that greed will surely multiply itself. but discipline as is a function of inertia and less commonly (since people tend to be unconscious) knowledge about reality

gotta remember that the more senses a memory taps into, the stronger it is. acquiring optimally from input means getting your senses online instead of just decoding and analyzing what’s written on a surface level. what are the characters feeling when that event happened in the story? what would the scene look and feel like if you were there? develop your ability to feel what you read/hear with more detail and clarity. not only will you have more fun but your ability to acquire new words and phrases naturally will skyrocket.

what obligation? decided by who? i only pointed out that no one's going to bother entertaining your assertions.
>is an unambiguous and well sourced assertion from the wikipedia article
i already pointed out the huge issue with that study though which is that the researchers controlled for factors like income which controls for factors which reflect willpower in the first place. also they looked at variance within income groups and not between, which is called range restriction and would weaken the relationship between gratification and delay. that's a huge oopsie that makes the entire study a dumpster unless i'm missing something.

because it is. and unlike flat earthers, i'm not claiming it without evidence, nor am i asserting the evidence exists without specifying where. i have already told you how to find the studies but i am saying i will absolutely not do the work of linking them here individually or explaining their methods/reasoning/conclusions or verifying their data for you.
