Well, constantly poning isn't a very good strategy. Unless you have a few dora or you pull some Akagi shit by kaning afterwards and getting dora 4 or 8 or something. Otherwise, enjoy your 2000-3000 point hands.

But if you're in the lead and want to keep control of the table, or just want to get a new hand since your current one sucks, calling can be a great option.

Riichi doesen't turn every hand into solid gold, either.
