How are you /jp/?

I come here with the question: What's the best way to play the Touhou games, Pad or Keyboard? I've been playing for only a few months, and I alternate between both. I feel that I do better with the pad, but only because I use it more. Is it better to get accustomed to using the keyboard? I'd just like to hear some opinions on this, sorry if it's a repeat thread.

>> No.2777231

The keyboard is precise enough for me.

>> No.2777239

I dunno, I have a controller sitting around in my room somewhere but I haven't bothered using it yet.

>> No.2777242

I prefer keyboard.

>> No.2777250

I guess a gamepad, I move too jerkily with the keyboard.

>> No.2777261

Keyboard because it's more accurate than a pad.

The best option would probably be a full-sized arcade stick bolted immobile on the table, if you have one.

>> No.2777268

Keyboard is fine for me, but I've never tried a pad.

I'm not used to using arrow keys, so it really doesn't work as well as a gamepad for me(I use my PS2 controller).

I suspect joystick is best because some replays I watch have people in total control, while I'm a bit more jumpy on my keyboard (and even worse when I attempt D-pads)

Keyboard, but I'm going to get a SFIV fightstick delivered in about an hour so I'm going to be probably using that when it comes in.

>> No.2778726

I'm more comfortable with a keyboard, though I do have a pad and a fighstick lying around. I tend to only use the fightstick when I'm playing something through MAME though. I haven't touched the pad in ages.

Hello OP... being accustomed to the keyboard is fine but for really heated moments (not just Touhou)... you will need one of these... (see image)

I mash, bash, bang even kick it but it's still fine... building one maybe a bit hard at first but for only $40 it is cheap and very much worth it... it now sit in the storage awaiting the day I will play with it.

Tell that to my beloved $10 Logitech pad.

>> No.2780429

Real men play IaMP/SWR using the keyboard.

>> No.2780433

I tend to use the keyboard, except for when I play as Sakuya. Then I grab the pad.

>> No.2780438

Sticks feel kind awkward for Touhou at first because of the focus button (SlowShot alone does not solve this because sometimes you need to focus but not shoot) but once you get used to it, sticks work fine. Basically sticks and keyboards both work fine, pads are shit.

>>2780403
Hello Jones... well Logitech is cheap but back then, we were hardcore arcade KOF/SF/any fighting game/ players... so we need something tough. So we buy heavy duty Arcade parts and build a very strong frame we could bash and kick without worries...

Take a look at BA 5's breakdown:
20 Saturn pads, 9 Saturn USB pads, 14 PS Controllers, 0 Arcade sticks, 3 Keyboard warriors.
Clearly, it takes a real man to use the keyboard (or arcade stick I suppose) at the tournament level.

Actually, that's EXACTLY what I play with. Well, not exactly. I'm in the process of building a mame cabinet and I plan on putting touhou in there. So my arcade sticks aren't bolted down yet, but thats what I use.

>> No.2780846

>>2780797
When you build your MAME cabinet... I suggest you use cheap USB pads for circuit instead of keyboard... Due to the way keyboard is designed... keyboard recognises very limited number of button pressed at a time...

Try this, open notepad and makesurer numlock is ON... now press and hold 1... while holding 1 press 2... while holding 1 and 2 press 3... you should see 123 in the notepad... now press 4 while holding 1 2 and 3... nothing happens... 4 doesn't appear...

>> No.2780876

>>2780846
I don't mean to sound rude, but why would I put a keyboard on an arcade cabinet? Unless you're warning me against usb arcade sticks, in which case it's already too late. But I think I'm alright, because the computer recognizes when I mash all the buttons at the same time, so I don't think I have to worry about the limited input on your standard usb keyboards. Thanks for the advice though.

>> No.2780902

>>2780876
No Problem... I was under the impression that you were going to gut a keyboard and use it's circuit... A friend did that quite a while back... Playing solo with it is fine but problems arise when we played in two players.

>> No.2780916

A lot of people use a keyboard PCA to convert button presses into something that a PC can understand.

They do this for two reasons. One, because it's extremely cheap, and two, because they're stupid.

Oh, ok. I could see why some people would think thats a good idea. I'm actually wussing out though and just using a bajillion usb ports. Two usb arcade sticks, two usb light guns, and a usb track ball i plan on making by shoving a trackball in front of a laser mouse camera.

Parsee's spellcard where she creates a clone of herself comes to mind. If you don't move over to the other side in time, you probably want to focus while moving over while not shooting to prevent the clone from triggering.
